From there, Novo Gaia sends Doctors of Applied General Technology, tinkers, into the Dark Lands to install everything from solar stills to televisions—and make a profit. Brad Cooper is a tinker on his route in Guelph when he finds himself at the epicentre of a plague outbreak. Stranded without support in a tenuously-held quarantine zone, he must use his limited medical training in a desperate search for a treatment against an insidious relic from an age of excess. Meanwhile, fuelled by panic, other townspeople caught within the quarantine zone conspire to sabotage relief efforts. Book My Life S Adventures

Download or read book My Life S Adventures written by Bernard Tinker and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2017-11-27 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with situations of living through the German occupation of Norway from 1940, including shortages of food and heat, all under a threatening occupation by the Hitlerite German Army. My father was imprisoned in Germany for five years while we survived without his strength and abilities. At eleven years old, I escaped imprisonment or death when caught by a German soldier in the wrong place. The story moves to a totally different environment in Nigeria, with another culture that was about to be changed by the removal of British control. This gives a picture of the beginning of large changes. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip attended the liberation ceremony in Benin. This book also includes a number of images of the life of the African and English cultures. This includes the problems of living with noxious tropical diseases and pests. Bernard returned to Britain to continue work and studies but, unfortunately, developed a serious disease, cerebral vasculitis, that they did not think he would survive. Fortunately, he has and is still active.

Book The Unforgettable Season

Download or read book The Unforgettable Season written by Gordon H. Fleming and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2006-03-01 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of Sports Illustrated?s top 100 sports books of all-time The 1908 National League pennant race was without question the most exciting and dramatic battle of all time. Three teams, the Giants, the Cubs, and the Pirates, battled from start to finish, concluding the season with just one game separating them in the standings. The story of this race is like a Hall of Fame sprung to life, including John McGraw, Christy Mathewson, Tinker-to-Evers-to-Chance, Mordecai ?Three Finger? Brown, and Honus Wagner. Yet the one name that truly stands out belongs to a young Giant rookie, Fred Merkle. His base-running blunder in a key game between the Giants and the Cubs cost the New Yorkers the pennant through an entirely unforeseeable set of circumstances that set off a near-riot in New York. More than mere history, The Unforgettable Season uses a judicious selection of newspaper stories to recreate the unforgettable season through the eyes and florid language of sportswriters of the day. With no film, TV, or radio accounts of the game to cloud readers' minds with facts, the newspaper writers had free reign to invent and embellish the larger-than-life figures and events of 1908. It is their efforts that make this book often unintentionally hilarious and unforgettable.

Each man came from a different corner of the country and brought a distinctive local culture with him: Evers from the Irish-American hothouse of Troy, New York; Tinker from the urban parklands of Kansas City, Missouri; Chance from the verdant fields of California's Central Valley. The stories of these early baseball stars shed unexpected light not only on the evolution of baseball and on the enthusiasm of its players and fans all across America, but also on the broader convulsions transforming the US into a confident new industrial society."--Page [4] of cover.
