Book Key to Parasitic Nematodes

Download or read book Key to Parasitic Nematodes written by Skryabin and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-10-09 with total page 1109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This final volume in the treatise Keys to Parastic Nematodes is devoted to the characters of five suborders of nematodes, compiled by five specialists. Suborder Trichocephalata and Diotophymata were compiled by K.I. Skryabin and N.P. Shikhobalova, and Rhabditata and Tylenchata by A.A. Sobolev and A.A. Paramonov. A.A. Sobolev analyzed the material on Camallanta, while V.E. Sudarikov compiled the chapter on the distribution of all known nematodes in different hosts recorded thus far, for all four volumes of this key. The importance of this volume is enhanced further by the most comprehensive index of animal hosts of all known parasitic nematodes reviewed. This comprehensive work is the first of its kind in helminthological literature; this type of treatise has never before been published in any country to date.

Book Ecological Sustainability of Fish Resources of Inland Waters of the Western Balkans

Download or read book Ecological Sustainability of Fish Resources of Inland Waters of the Western Balkans written by Vladica Simić and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-12-31 with total page 714 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a detailed evaluation of the hydro-ecological characteristics of the Western Balkans, an area characterized by still preserved inland waters and fish resources important for the European continent, as well as the biodiversity of inland waters important for the planet Earth. Freshwater ecosystems cover only 1% of the Earth's surface; however, they are a habitat for about 40% of fish species. At the same time, inland fisheries make less than 12% of the world's global fish catch, with 43% coming from low-income and food-deficient countries (Africa, South America, Southeast Asia). In Europe, the Western Balkans have significant fishing waters and fish resources, including the Middle Danube drainage (Sava, Drina, Velika Morava river systems), large ancient lakes (Skadar/Shkodra, Ohrid, Prespa, Dojran), and the Adriatic basin characterized by endemic and commercially important species. However, in contrast to the high fishing potential in a significant part of the Western Balkans, diverse and specific political, economic, and social factors largely had a negative impact on the state of fish resources. This volume is multidisciplinary and provides a sound knowledge base for scientific and practical fisheries. In addition, it may be a valuable guide for managers and conservationists worldwide to adapt methods and procedures for the ecological sustainability of fish resources under specific local, natural, and socio-economic conditions. Finally, the content is a good reference for natural sciences and agriculture students studying fish, fish resources, and fisheries sciences. It would improve their knowledge and perspectives on the challenges of sustainable use and conservation of inland water resources.

  • Pages : 368 pages

Download or read book Darwin s Fishes written by Daniel Pauly and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-08-27 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Darwin's Fishes, Daniel Pauly presents an encyclopaedia of ichthyology, ecology and evolution, based upon everything that Charles Darwin ever wrote about fish. Entries are arranged alphabetically and can be about, for example, a particular fish taxon, an anatomical part, a chemical substance, a scientist, a place, or an evolutionary or ecological concept. The reader can start wherever they like and are then led by a series of cross-references on a fascinating voyage of interconnected entries, each indirectly or directly connected with original writings from Darwin himself. Along the way, the reader is offered interpretation of the historical material put in the context of both Darwin's time and that of contemporary biology and ecology. This book is intended for anyone interested in fishes, the work of Charles Darwin, evolutionary biology and ecology, and natural history in general.
