Download or read book The Triassic Timescale written by Spencer G. Lucas and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2010 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mesozoic Era begins with the approximately 50-million-year-long Triassic Period, a major juncture in Earth history when the vast Pangaean supercontinent completed its assembly and began its fragmentation, and the global biota diversified and modern-ized after the end-Permian mass extinction, the most extensive biotic decimation of the Phanerozoic. The temporal ordering of geological and biotic events during Triassic time thus is critical to the interpretation of some unique and pivotal events in Earth his-tory. This temporal ordering is mostly based on the Triassic time-scale, which has been developed and refined for nearly two centu-ries. This book reviews the state of the art of the Triassic timescale and includes comprehensive analyses of Triassic radio-isotopic ages, magnetostratigraphy, isotope-based and cyclostratigraphic correlations and timescale -relevant marine and non-marine bio-stratigraphy.

Book Progress in Scale Modeling

Download or read book Progress in Scale Modeling written by Kozo Saito and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-08-20 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scale modeling can play an important role in R&D. When engineers receive some ideas in new product development, they can test how the new design looks by bui- ing scale models and they can get an actual feeling with the prototype through their imagination. Professor Emori often said: “When children play with a toy airplane, their mind is wondering about the prototype airplane which they haven’t ridden. ” Children can use the scale model airplane as a means to enter into an imagi- tive world of wonder by testing in their own way how the actual airplane might function, how the actual airplane can maneuver aerodynamically, what might be the actual sound of a jet engine, how to safely land the actual airplane, and so on. This imagination that scale models can provide for children will help them later develop professional intuition. Physical scale models can never be entirely succe- fully replaced by computer screens where virtual models are displayed and fancy functions are demonstrated. Not only children but also adults can learn things by actually touching things only offered by physical models, helping all of us develop imagination and feeling eventually leading toward Kufu. Einstein’s famous “thought experiments [11],” which helped him to restructure modern physics may possibly and effectively be taught by letting researchers play with scale models!? References 1. I. Book Nonlinear Time Scale Systems in Standard and Nonstandard Forms

Download or read book Nonlinear Time Scale Systems in Standard and Nonstandard Forms written by Anshu Narang-Siddarth and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2014-04-22 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces key concepts for systematically controlling engineering systems that possess interacting phenomena occurring at widely different speeds. The aim is to present the reader with control techniques that extend the benefits of model reduction of singular perturbation theory to a larger class of nonlinear dynamical systems. New results and relevant background are presented through insightful examples that cover a wide range of applications from different branches of engineering. This book is unique because it presents a new perspective on existing control methods and thus broadens their application to a larger class of nonlinear dynamical systems. It also discusses general rather than problem-specific developments to certain applications or disciplines in order to provide control engineers with useful analytical tools, and it addresses new control problems using singular perturbation methods, including closed-form results for control of nonminimum phase systems.

Book Multi Stage and Multi Time Scale Feedback Control of Linear Systems with Applications to Fuel Cells

Download or read book Multi Stage and Multi Time Scale Feedback Control of Linear Systems with Applications to Fuel Cells written by Verica Radisavljević-Gajić and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-12 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive study of multi-stage and multi-time scale design of feedback controllers for linear dynamic systems. It examines different types of controllers as can be designed for different parts of the system (subsystems) using corresponding feedback gains obtained by performing calculations (design) only with subsystem (reduced-order) matrices. The advantages of the multi-stage/multi-time scale design are presented and conditions for implementation of these controllers are established. Complete derivations and corresponding design techniques are presented for two-stage/two-time-scale, three-stage/three-time scale, and four-stage/four-time-scale systems. The techniques developed have potential applications to a large number of real physical systems. The design techniques are demonstrated on examples of mathematical models of fuel cells, especially the proton exchange membrane fuel cell.

Book Time Frequency and Time Scale Methods

Download or read book Time Frequency and Time Scale Methods written by Jeffrey A. Hogan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-12-21 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developed in this book are several deep connections between time-frequency (Fourier/Gabor) analysis and time-scale (wavelet) analysis, emphasizing the powerful adaptive methods that emerge when separate techniques from each area are properly assembled in a larger context. While researchers at the forefront of these areas are well aware of the benefits of such a unified approach, there remains a knowledge gap in the larger community of practitioners about the precise strengths and limitations of Fourier/Gabor analysis versus wavelets. This book fills that gap by presenting the interface of time-frequency and time-scale methods as a rich area of work. "Foundations of Time-Frequency and Time-Scale Methods" will be suitable for applied mathematicians and engineers in signal/image processing and communication theory, as well as researchers and students in mathematical analysis, signal analysis, and mathematical physics.
