Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This anthology covers thirteen centuries of Christian poetry from the ancient Dream of the Rood to modern poems by T. S. Eliot and C. S. Lewis. I can think of no one better qualified to assemble an anthology of Christian devotional poetry than Elizabeth Marlow. She not only knows this poetry well but has taught it for many years to appreciative students. Best of all, she loves and serves the Lord to whom the poems in this collection direct the gaze of our souls. With this anthology, she has given us a tool with which to stir up the embers of our hearts, that our love for the triune God might blaze all the brighter. I highly recommend this collection. —Greg Bailey, Director of Editorial, Crossway Books I am chastened by comments in the preface to this book: “If we don’t read, reflect on, and enjoy the great wealth of Christian poetry available to us, these poetic gems will eventually be consigned to academic libraries and forgotten by the majority of the reading public.” Apart from reading and singing psalms and hymns, I have not been an avid reader of poetry. I confess this to my shame, and recently I determined to address this appalling shortcoming in my life. Elizabeth Marlow’s anthology of poetry is the ideal antidote. I am excited to recommend this anthology of thirteen centuries of English poetry. Just look at the table of contents, and your appetite will be whetted. So join me in learning to love God better by reading these selections. —Dr. Joseph A. Pipa, President of Greenville Theological Seminary, Professor of Systematic and Homiletical Theology, Greenville, SC

Book A Stranger s Broken Language

Download or read book A Stranger s Broken Language written by Young Jun Kim and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Writing poem is most attractive behavior to me. The reason is purification of my soul and pursuing essential thing. So poetic language remains a lot of imageries, metaphors and symbols. Still, I have an obligation that I have to remain my writing to my descendants. This is the first reason to write these poems, because I am a stranger who doesn't know well dominant language, English. And as a stranger, I have a desire to send what my emotions, struggles and experiences are as a first generation. Secondly, I want to send my devotional emotions from in my being and nature. So my poems express some spiritual struggles and devotions as a hidden form like metaphor, symbol and story. Thirdly, my style of poem is narrative or story. This makes me uncomfortable, because I have tried to express with some hidden form of language from my nature and spiritual sight than phenomenon. So I have a prayer to recognize what the universal language which would be human's nature to send inner voices is. Thanks to all my readers!

Book excerpt: Everyone longs for freedom, the weightless feeling of "the sky's the limit" and getting into bed at the end of the day with a smile, while drifting off to sleep contentedly. But how does someone break free from the negative things in life that lead to captivity and feeling trapped, immobilized, and ineffective in experiencing a joyful, peaceful, and fulfilled life? Pamela Sayers Werner knows the pain of a heavy heart but had an epiphany that changed everything: she let God truly love her, opening her heart to His truth. This revelation of truth led Pamela to discover Freedom's Formula, a solution to life's trouble with four simple but profound aspects: Knowing God - getting to know Him one-on-one through reading the Bible and communicating through prayer. This lays the foundation for the rest of the formula. Loving God - recognizing the sacrifi ce He made for the world, and living in a way that pleases Him. Trusting God - having confi dence to trust all things work together through His plan, even when His plan is hard to understand. Obeying God - doing whatever He says because of faith and love, even when it's scary or painful, and acknowledging the need for a Savior. Through her poetry, Pamela shows that believers who commit to Jesus Christ can gain the power of living the life of overcomers, unleashing the power of the Holy Spirit to be true Christian warriors. These warriors, drawing on the power from God and using their gifts, will fulfi ll their God-given destiny.
