Book Study of Parity and Time Reversal Violation in Neutron nucleus Interactions

Download or read book Study of Parity and Time Reversal Violation in Neutron nucleus Interactions written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The parity and time-reversal symmetries can be studies in neutron-nucleus interactions. Parity non-conserving asymmetries have been observed for many p-wave resonances in a compound nucleus and measurements were performed on several nuclei in the mass region of A∼100 and A∼230. The statistical model of the compound nucleus provides a theoretical basis for extracting mean-squared matrix elements from the experimental asymmetry data, and for interpreting the mean-squared matrix elements. The constraints on the weak meson-exchange couplings calculated from the compound-nucleus asymmetry data agree qualitatively with the results from few-body and light-nuclei experiments. The tests of time-reversal invariance in various experiments using thermal, epithermal and MeV neutrons are being developed.

Book Parity And Time Reversal Violation In Compound Nuclear States And Related Topics Proceedings Of The International

This book was released on 1996-11-06 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book contains the Proceedings of the 2010 Conference of the Italian Systems Society. Papers deal with the interdisciplinary study of processes of changing related to a wide variety of specific disciplinary aspects. Classical attempts to deal with them, based on generalising approaches used to study the movement of bodies and environmental influence, have included ineffective reductionistic simplifications. Indeed changing also relates, for instance, to processes of acquisition and varying properties such as for software; growing and aging biological systems; learning/cognitive systems; and socio-economic systems growing and developing through innovations. Some approaches to modelling such processes are based on considering changes in structure, e.g., phase-transitions. Other approaches are based on considering (1) periodic changes in structure as for processes of self-organisation; (2) non-periodic but coherent changes in structure, as for processes of emergence; (3) the quantum level of description. Papers in the book study the problem considering its transdisciplinary nature, i.e., systemic properties studied per se and not within specific disciplinary contexts. The aim of these studies is to outline a transdisciplinary theory of change in systemic properties. Such a theory should have simultaneous, corresponding and eventually hierarchical disciplinary aspects as expected for a general theory of emergence. Within this transdisciplinary context, specific disciplinary research activities and results are assumed to be mutually represented as within a philosophical and conceptual framework based on the theoretical centrality of the observer and conceptual non-separability of context and observer, related to logically open systems and Quantum Entanglement. Contributions deal with such issues in interdisciplinary ways considering theoretical aspects and applications from Physics, Cognitive Science, Biology, Artificial Intelligence, Economics, Architecture, Philosophy, Music and Social Systems.

Book Tests of Parity and Time Reversal Invariance in Neutron nucleus Scattering

Download or read book Tests of Parity and Time Reversal Invariance in Neutron nucleus Scattering written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I'll discuss the experiments in which parity violation has been measured in low energy neutron-nucleus scattering. The interest is two-fold: to understand how parity violation in the nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction manifests itself in a complicated many-body system and to show that the large enhancements observed make this a good laboratory to search for violations of TRI. Further, the procedure of relating the measured parity violating asymmetries to the under-lying NN interaction will be important in order to make the same connection in violation of TRI (or in limits). First, I'll make brief comments on some relevant features of low energy neutron scattering and then review the existing measurements of parity violation. I'll try to explain, at least qualitatively, the origin of the large enhancements observed. Finally, I'll describe the TRIPLE collaboration program to study parity violation and discuss planned experiments to search for violations of TRI. 23 refs.

Book Fundamental Neutron Physics

Download or read book Fundamental Neutron Physics written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of the proposal was to study the possibility of searching for manifestations of new physics beyond the Standard model in fundamental neutron physics experiments. This involves detailed theoretical analyses of parity and time reversal invariance violating processes in neutron induced reactions, properties of neutron [beta]-decay, and the precise description of properties of neutron interactions with nuclei. To describe neutron-nuclear interactions, we use both the effective field theory approach and the theory of nuclear reaction with phenomenological nucleon potentials for the systematic description of parity and time reversal violating effects in the consistent way. A major emphasis of our research during the funding period has been the study of parity violation (PV) and time reversal invariance violation (TRIV) in few-body systems. We studied PV effects in non-elastic processes in three nucleon system using both" DDH-like" and effective field theory (EFT) approaches. The wave functions were obtained by solving three-body Faddeev equations in configuration space for a number of realistic strong potentials. The observed model dependence for the DDH approach indicates intrinsic difficulty in the description of nuclear PV effects and it could be the reason for the observed discrepancies in the nuclear PV data analysis. It shows that the DDH approach could be a reasonable approach for analysis of PV effects only if exactly the same strong and weak potentials are used in calculating all PV observables in all nuclei. However, the existing calculations of nuclear PV effects were performed using different potentials; therefore, strictly speaking, one cannot compare the existing results of these calculations among themselves.

Book Parity and Time reversal Symmetry Nonconservation in Neutron nucleus Interactions

Download or read book Parity and Time reversal Symmetry Nonconservation in Neutron nucleus Interactions written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parity non-conversation was studied for seventeen states in the compound nucleus 239U by measuring the helicity dependence of the p-wave resonance cross section for epithermal neutrons scattered from 238U. The root-mean-squared parity-violating matrix element for the mixing of p-wave and s-wave states was determined to be M = 0.58{sub -0.25}{sup +0.50} meV. This corresponds to a parity-violating spreading width of [Gamma]{sup PV} = 1.0 × 10−7 eV. This gives a value of 4 × 10−7 for [alpha]{sub p}, the ratio of strengths of the P-odd and P-even effective nucleon-nucleon interactions in 239U. The implications of these results for studies of Time Reversal Symmetry in the compound nucleus is discussed.

Book CP Violation in Particle Nuclear and Astrophysics

Download or read book CP Violation in Particle Nuclear and Astrophysics written by Michael Beyer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-01-11 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The exciting experiments of the BABAR and BELLE collaborations have now proven violation of CP symmetry in the neutral B system. This has renewed strong interest in the physics of CP violation. Novel experimental techniques and new highly intense neutron sources are now becoming available to further test the related time reversal symmetry. They will substantially lower the current limit on the neutron electric dipole moment and hence open up new tests of theoretical concepts beyond the Standard Model. These are strongly required to explain the decisive excess of matter versus antimatter in our Universe. There is a de?nite need to communicate these exciting developments to younger scientists, and therefore we organized a summer school in October 2000 on “CP Violation and Related Topics”, which was held in Prerow, a small Baltic Sea resort. These Lecture Notes were inspired by the vivid - terest of the participants, and I am grateful to the authors, who faced the unexpected and delivered all the material for an up-to-date introduction to this broad ?eld. It is a great pleasure for me to warmly thank the Co-organizers of the summer school, Henning Schr ̈oder, Thomas Mannel, Klaus R. Schubert and my colleague Roland Waldi. Also I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Volkswagen-Stiftung for their ?nancial support of this inspiring summer school.

Book Parity Violation Time Reversal and the Neutron

Download or read book Parity Violation Time Reversal and the Neutron written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than half a century, low energy neutrons have been used to elucidate important issues related to the understanding of fundamental symmetries, the determination of fundamental constants, and the testing of basic theories in nuclear and particle physics. Currently investigations with 'Cold' and 'Ultra Cold' neutrons are addressing questions related to the origin of time reversal asymmetry, the unitarity of the CKM matrix, and the nature of the hadronic weak interaction. Current and proposed measurements of the neutron electric dipole moment, neutron beta decay and nucleon-nucleon parity violation will be reviewed. The opportunities for this work at the accelerator based Spallation Neutron Source, currently under construction at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, will be discussed.

Book Probing The Nuclear Paradigm With Heavy Ion Reactions Proceedings Of The International School Of Heavy Ion Physics

This book was released on 1995-02-22 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Major developments have taken place during the last few years in the study of the nuclear paradigm as a result of recent detector and accelerator developments, and of improved theoretical models. The active use of 4-π detectors to measure the gamma decay of excited nuclei has been instrumental in exploring the consequences of extremely high rotational frequencies and excitation energies in the nuclear structure. The identification of superdeformed bands, of limiting temperature for the detection of giant resonances, and of rotational damping, are conspicuous examples of this novel type of research. Studies of the disassembling of the nucleus have been systematically carried out, and the results interpreted in terms of transport models. At even higher temperatures one expects to have a completely new regime of hot dense matter, where the hadronic properties become strongly renormalized by the medium.Furthermore, studies of the properties of the nucleon as a many-body system of quarks and gluons displaying collective degrees of freedom which are damped by couplings to more complicated states, are providing a detailed and consistent picture of the nuclear paradigm.Important progress is also taking place in situations essentially opposite to the scenarios described above, namely in the study of correlations in nuclear matter at very low temperature and density.
