Book Applications in Time Frequency Signal Processing

Download or read book Applications in Time Frequency Signal Processing written by Antonia Papandreou-Suppappola and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because most real-world signals, including speech, sonar, communication, and biological signals, are non-stationary, traditional signal analysis tools such as Fourier transforms are of limited use because they do not provide easily accessible information about the localization of a given frequency component. A more suitable approach for those studying non-stationary signals is the use of time frequency representations that are functions of both time and frequency. Applications in Time-Frequency Signal Processing investigates the use of various time-frequency representations, such as the Wigner distribution and the spectrogram, in diverse application areas. Other books tend to focus on theoretical development. This book differs by highlighting particular applications of time-frequency representations and demonstrating how to use them. It also provides pseudo-code of the computational algorithms for these representations so that you can apply them to your own specific problems. Written by leaders in the field, this book offers the opportunity to learn from experts. Time-Frequency Representation (TFR) algorithms are simplified, enabling you to understand the complex theories behind TFRs and easily implement them. The numerous examples and figures, review of concepts, and extensive references allow for easy learning and application of the various time-frequency representations.

Book Introduction to Digital Filters

Download or read book Introduction to Digital Filters written by Julius Orion Smith and published by Julius Smith. This book was released on 2007 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A digital filter can be pictured as a "black box" that accepts a sequence of numbers and emits a new sequence of numbers. In digital audio signal processing applications, such number sequences usually represent sounds. For example, digital filters are used to implement graphic equalizers and other digital audio effects. This book is a gentle introduction to digital filters, including mathematical theory, illustrative examples, some audio applications, and useful software starting points. The theory treatment begins at the high-school level, and covers fundamental concepts in linear systems theory and digital filter analysis. Various "small" digital filters are analyzed as examples, particularly those commonly used in audio applications. Matlab programming examples are emphasized for illustrating the use and development of digital filters in practice.

Book Applications of Digital Signal Processing to Audio and Acoustics

Download or read book Applications of Digital Signal Processing to Audio and Acoustics written by Mark Kahrs and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-11 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Karlheinz Brandenburg and Mark Kahrs With the advent of multimedia, digital signal processing (DSP) of sound has emerged from the shadow of bandwidth limited speech processing. Today, the main appli cations of audio DSP are high quality audio coding and the digital generation and manipulation of music signals. They share common research topics including percep tual measurement techniques and analysis/synthesis methods. Smaller but nonetheless very important topics are hearing aids using signal processing technology and hardware architectures for digital signal processing of audio. In all these areas the last decade has seen a significant amount of application oriented research. The topics covered here coincide with the topics covered in the biannual work shop on “Applications of Signal Processing to Audio and Acoustics”. This event is sponsored by the IEEE Signal Processing Society (Technical Committee on Audio and Electroacoustics) and takes place at Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, New York. A short overview of each chapter will illustrate the wide variety of technical material presented in the chapters of this book. John Beerends: Perceptual Measurement Techniques. The advent of perceptual measurement techniques is a byproduct of the advent of digital coding for both speech and high quality audio signals. Traditional measurement schemes are bad estimates for the subjective quality after digital coding/decoding. Listening tests are subject to sta tistical uncertainties and the basic question of repeatability in a different environment.

Book Engineering Noise Control

Download or read book Engineering Noise Control written by David A. Bies and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-01 with total page 812 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This classic and authoritative student textbook contains information that is not over simplified and can be used to solve the real world problems encountered by noise and vibration consultants as well as the more straightforward ones handled by engineers and occupational hygienists in industry. The book covers the fundamentals of acoustics, theoretical concepts and practical application of current noise control technology. It aims to be as comprehensive as possible while still covering important concepts in sufficient detail to engender a deep understanding of the foundations upon which noise control technology is built. Topics which are extensively developed or overhauled from the fourth edition include sound propagation outdoors, amplitude modulation, hearing protection, frequency analysis, muffling devices (including 4-pole analysis and self noise), sound transmission through partitions, finite element analysis, statistical energy analysis and transportation noise. For those who are already well versed in the art and science of noise control, the book will provide an extremely useful reference. A wide range of example problems that are linked to noise control practice are available on www.causalsystems.com for free download.

Book Wind Farm Noise

Download or read book Wind Farm Noise written by Colin H. Hansen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-01-31 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive guide to wind farm noise prediction, measurement, assessment, control and effects on people Wind Farm Noise covers all aspects associated with the generation, measurement, propagation, regulation and adverse health effects of noise produced by large horizontal-axis wind turbines of the type used in wind farms. The book begins with a brief history of wind turbine development and the regulation of their noise at sensitive receivers. Also included is an introductory chapter on the fundamentals of acoustics relevant to wind turbine noise so that readers are well prepared for understanding later chapters on noise measurements, noise generation mechanisms, noise propagation modelling and the assessment of the noise at surrounding residences. Key features: Potential adverse health effects of wind farm noise are discussed in an objective way. Means for calculating the noise at residences due to a wind farm prior to construction are covered in detail along with uncertainty estimates. The effects of meteorological conditions and other influences, such as obstacles, ground cover and atmospheric absorption, on noise levels at residences are explained. Quantities that should be measured as well as how to best measure them in order to properly characterise wind farm noise are discussed in detail. Noise generation mechanisms and possible means for their control are discussed as well as aspects of wind farm noise that still require further research to be properly understood. The book provides comprehensive coverage of the topic, containing both introductory and advanced level material.
