Download or read book Time dependent Dalitz Plot Analysis of the Charmless Decay B0 K0 S Pi Pi at BABAR written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A time-dependent amplitude analysis of B° → K{sub S}°??− decays is performed in order to extract the CP violation parameters of f0(980)K{sub S}° and?°(770)K{sub S}° and direct CP asymmetries of K*+(892)?−. The results are obtained from the final BABAR data sample of (465 ± 5)106 B{bar B} decays, collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at SLAC. The time dependent CP asymmetry for f0(980)K{sub S}° and?°(770)K{sub S}° are measured to be S(f0(980)K{sub S}°) = -0.97 ± 0.09 ± 0.01 ± 0.01, and S(?°(770)K{sub S}°) = 0.67 ± 0.20 ± 0.06 ± 0.04, respectively. In decays to K*+(892)?− the direct CP asymmetry is found to be A{sub CP}(K*{sup ±}(892)?{sup {-+}}) = -0.18 ± 0.10 ± 0.04 ± 0.00. The relative phases between B° → K*+(892)?− and {bar B}° → K*−(892)?+, relevant for the extraction of the unitarity triangle angle?, is measured to be??(K*(892)?) = (34.9 ± 23.1 ± 7.5 {+-} 4.7){sup o}, where uncertainties are statistical, systematic and model-dependent, respectively. Fit fractions, direct CP asymmetries and the relative phases of different other resonant modes have also been measured. A new method for extracting longitudinal shower development information from longitudinally unsegmented calorimeters is also presented. This method has been implemented as a part of the BABAR final particle identification algorithm. A significant improvement in low momenta muon identification at BABAR is obtained.

Book excerpt: The authors report a Dalitz-plot analysis of the charmless hadronic decays of neutral B mesons to K{sup ±}?{sup {-+}}?°. With a sample of (231.8 ± 2.6) x 106?(4S) → B{bar B} decays collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC, they measure the magnitudes and phases of the intermediate resonant and nonresonant amplitudes for B° and {bar B}° decays and determine the corresponding CP-averaged branching fractions and charge asymmetries. The inclusive branching fraction and CP-violating charge asymmetry are measured to be?(B° → K?−?°) = (35.7{sub -1.5}{sup +2.6} ± 2.2) x 10−6, and?{sub CP} = -0.030{sub -0.051}{sup +0.045} ± 0.055 where the first errors are statistical and the second systematic. They observe the decay B° → K*°(892)?° with the branching fraction?(B° → K*°(892)?°) = (3.6{sub -0.8}{sup +0.7} ± 0.4) x 10−6. This measurement differs from zero by 5.6 standard deviations (including the systematic uncertainties). The selected sample also contains B° → {bar D}°?° decays where {bar D}° → K+?−, and they measure?(B° → {bar D}°?°) = (2.93 ± 0.17 {+-} 0.18) x 10−4.

Download or read book Time dependent Dalitz Plot Analysis of B0 to D K0Pi Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present for the first time a measurement of the weak phase 2[beta] + [gamma] obtained from a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis of B° → D{sup {-+}}K°[pi]{sup ±} decays. Using a sample of approximately 347 x 106 B{bar B} pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy storage rings, we obtain 2[beta] + [gamma] = (83 ± 53 ± 20)° and (263 ± 53 {+-} 20){sup o} assuming the ratio r of the b → u and b → c decay amplitudes to be 0.3. The magnitudes and phases for the resonances associated with the b → c transitions are also extracted from the fit.

Book excerpt: Particle physicists study the smallest particles and most basic rules of their interactions in humankind's current scope. The Charm Analysis Working Group (CWG) of the BaBar Collaboration studies decays involving the charm quark. They currently study mixing in D decays, an interesting and poorly understood phenomenon in current physics models. We, as part of the CWG, investigated the plausibility of using Dalitz plots and the BaBar analysis framework to study mixing in Wrong Sign (WS) D[sup 0][yields] K[pi][pi][sup 0] decays. Others in the CWG have studied mixing in the 2-body decay, D[sup 0][yields] K[pi]. The 3-body decay analyzed with the RooFitDalitz analysis package and Dalitz plots provides more information and another way of separating Doubly Cabibbo Suppressed Decays (DCSD) from mixing--which share the same end products. Through doing many simulations, we have demonstrated the usefulness of this approach. We selected D[sup 0][yields] K[pi][pi][sup 0] events from Simulation Production run No. 4 (SP4) and BaBar's run 1 and run 2. We made Dalitz plots with this data. Now that we better understand Dalitz plots and software, we plan to select WS D[sup 0][yields] K[pi][pi][sup 0] events and perform rate fits as discussed in BaBar Analysis Document (BAD) No. 443, as well as fits for several different decay times and resonances, in order to further distinguish DCSD from mixing.

Book Time Dependent Dalitz Analysis of B0 D K0 Pi Decays for the Measurement of 2beta gamma with the BaBar Detector

This book was released on 2007 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The CP violation is explained in the Standard Model with three quark generations with an irreducible phase in the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark mixing matrix. The unitarity of this matrix can be represented in a complex plane as a triangle (called Unitarity Triangle). The measurement of the parameters of the triangle is a powerful test of the Standard Model description of the CP violation. This thesis tries to measure the weak phase 2beta+ gamma through the B0 -> D+ K0 Pi- decays. Respect to the two body decays B0 -> D(*)+ Pi- and B0 -> D+ Rho- presently used for the measurement of the same weak phase, the B0 -> D+ K0 Pi- decays should show up a larger CP asymmetry and does not rely on any theoretical assumption. After a review of all the methods for the measurement of 2beta+gamma, the thesis presents the results of a feasibility study of the measurement with the B0 -> D+ K0 Pi- decays . In a second part, the analysis performed on 316 fb-1 of data collected by the BaBar detector at the B-factory PEP2 is presented, from the selection of the events to the time-dependent Dalitz fit technique used in order to extract the weak phase 2beta+gamma as well as the amplitudes and phases of the intermediate resonances contributing to the decay. The result of the analysis gives the following estimation: 2beta+gamma = 89 +/- 53(stat) +23-14(syst) degrees with an irreducible ambiguity of 180 degrees.

Book excerpt: The author reports on a Dalitz plot analysis of B− → D+?−?− decays, based on a sample of about 383 million ?(4S) → B{bar B} decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. They find the total branching fraction of the three-body decay: ?(B− → D+ ?−?−) = (1.08 ± 0.01 ± 0.05) x 10−3. the masses and widths of D*2° and D*0°, the 2+ and 0+ c{bar u} P-wave states decaying to D+?−, are measured: m{sub D*2°} = (2460.4 ± 1.2 ± 1.2 ± 1.9) MeV/c2, ?{sub D*2°} = (41.8 ± 2.5 ± 2.1 ± 2.0) MeV, m{sub D*0°} = (2297 ± 8 ± 5 ± 19) MeV/c2 and ?{sub D*0°} = (273 ± 12 ± 17 ± 45) MeV. The stated errors reflect the statistical and systematic uncertainties, and the uncertainty related to the assumed composition of signal events and the theoretical model.

Book Time Dependent CP Asymmetries and Branching RatioMeasurements in Charmless Three Body B Decays at BABAR

Download or read book Time Dependent CP Asymmetries and Branching RatioMeasurements in Charmless Three Body B Decays at BABAR written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work we presented measurements of CP violation and decay rates of B decays in final states not involving a charm quark in the final state. In particular, the time-dependent CP asymmetries of decays which proceed through b 2!s elementary transition is a particularly sensitive probe of physics beyond the Standard Model. In fact, even if the precise measurements of CP conserving and CP violating processes show the success of the CKM picture of the flavour physics, the sector of b 2!s transitions is still not strongly constrained and leaves room for new physics contributions. In particular, we considered the decays which have the cleanest theoretical prediction within the Standard Model: B° 2![phi]K° and B° 2!K{sub s}°K{sub s}°K{sub s}° [beta]{sub eff}{sup SM} = 0.379. We examined the former with a completely new approach with respect to the past: the study of CP violation in the whole KK−K° phase space through a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis. With this approach, we simultaneously measured the CP-violating asymmetries of the [phi]KJ°, f0(980)K° resonant and KK−K° non-resonant contributions, avoiding one of the largest uncertainties which affected the previous measurements of B° 2![phi]K°. We find [beta]{sub eff}(B° 2![phi]K°) = 0.06 ± 0.16 ± 0.05, which is lower than the Standard Model expectation, but it is consistent with it within two standard deviations. Moreover, only a recently developed experimental technique, which allows the determination of the position of B decay vertex when no charged tracks are originating from it, has made possible the measurement of the time-dependent CP asymmetry in B° 2!K{sub s}°K{sub s}°K{sub s}° decays. The mixing-induced CP parameter S in the Standard Model should be equal to sin 2[beta] parameter, which is measured with high precision in B 2![c{bar c}]K° decays by the B-factories. This statement is true, in the Standard Model, with excellent approximation for the decays studied in this work. The summary of the measurements in the b 2!s sector is shown in Fig. 9.8 A naive average of the b 2!s penguins, which does not account for the correlations existing among [phi]K°, f0(980)K° and K+K−K°, and that includes also modes with larger theoretical uncertainties, shows that -[eta]{sub CP} x S is lower than sin 2[beta]. This is not an evidence of physics beyond the Standard Model, but the systematic deviation from the expected value is an hint that there is room for it. More compelling evidence for new physics could be obtained measuring significant deviation in each decay channel from Standard Model prediction. Currently all the measurement are statistically limited and therefore an increase in accumulated statistics will shed more light into this quest for New Physics.

Book excerpt: The authors present preliminary results on the Dalitz plot analysis of B° --> K?−?° decays. The data sample comprises 213 million?(4S) --> B{bar B} decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. They report measurements of the inclusive branching fraction, quasi-two-body fractions and CP-violating charge asymmetries for intermediate states including K*(892)+?− and?(770)−K+. Observations of B° decays to the K?S-wave intermediate states, K0*(1430)+?− and K0*(1430)°?°, are reported. Evidence of the decay B° --> K*(892)°?° is seen. They set upper limits at 90% confidence level on branching fractions of the nonresonant and other less significant intermediate states.

Download or read book The Use of Early Data on B r underscore arrow rho pi Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper reviews the Dalitz plot analysis for decays B[sup 0](anti-B[sup 0])[r[underscore]arrow][rho][pi][r[underscore]arrow][pi][sup+][pi][sup[minus]]pi[sup 0]. The authors discuss what can be learned about the ten parameters in this analysis from untagged and from tagged time-integrated data. The authors find that, with the important exception of the interesting CP violating quantity[alpha], the parameters can be determined from this data sample--and, hence, they can be measured at CLEO as well as at the asymmetric B factories. This suggests that the extraction of[alpha] from the time-dependent data sample can be accomplished with a smaller data sample (and, therefore, sooner) than would be required if all ten parameters were to be obtained from that time-dependent data sample alone. The authors also explore bounds on the shift of the true angle[alpha] from the angle measured from charged[rho] final states alone. These may be obtained prior to measurements of the parameters describing the neutral[rho] channel, which are expected to be small.
