Download or read book 1994 Forest Range Recreation Resource Analysis written by British Columbia. Ministry of Forests and published by University of British Columbia Press. This book was released on 1995 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: British Columbia's Ministry of Forests Act requires a forest and range resource analysis to be completed every tenth year after September 30, 1984. This document is the third such analysis, presenting information relevant to current issues in provincial forest resource management as a foundation for developing future resource management policy. After an overview of the province's forest ecosystem, this report introduces important resource values associated with British Columbia forests. Inventories and statistics are provided on areas and volumes of timber harvested and regenerated, range condition and use, forest recreation activity, value of botanical forest products, and supply and demand for timber, range, and recreation resources. The report also describes the timber supply review process and how the annual allowable cut is determined. Finally, it describes provincial forest policy and programs and makes projections of future supply and demand of forest resources.

Download or read book Skeena River Fish and Their Habitat written by Allen Gottesfeld and published by Oregon State University Press. This book was released on 2008 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: British Columbia¿s Skeena River is one of the great salmon rivers of the North Pacific. The river and its fish have supported indigenous peoples for thousands of years. More recently, the Skeena has earned world renown for its recreational fishery and magnificent wilderness setting. Yet, over the last century, fish populations have declined from overfishing, habitat alteration and, to an unknown degree, climate change. Development of mining as well as oil and gas resources may also pose threats to fish populations. This book presents the first thorough review of the salmon stocks and freshwater species of the Skeena River. Initial chapters summarize the river¿s environment, fish, and fisheries. The book then examines the physical geography, development history, indigenous use, and major salmon stocks of each of the watershed¿s sub-basins. This volume makes available for the first time¿to researchers, field biologists, fishermen and natural history enthusiasts¿both the published, and largely unpublished, literature on this productive salmon ecosystem.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book consists of a collection of individual papers surveying the existing knowledge of biodiversity in British Columbia. The first section contains papers that consider the importance of an ecosystem-centred approach to the conservation of biodiversity, explain the methods of classifying the status of rare species, and review the role of biosystematics and taxonomy in the study of biodiversity. The second section focuses on the diversity of species in British Columbia, with papers on specific species or groups such as lepidoptera, marine invertebrates, lichens, bryophytes, fish, fungi, mammals, birds, reptiles, and vascular plants. Part three summarises information on the diversity of the province's ecosystems, with papers on such topics as forests, grasslands, marine areas, urban areas, and atmospheric change. The final section discusses ways of protecting biodiversity, concluding with a summary of recommendations for biodiversity conservation.
