Book Till Sampling and Analytical Protocols for GEM Projects

Download or read book Till Sampling and Analytical Protocols for GEM Projects written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "From 2008 to 2013, the Canadian government is investing in a major initiative termed Geo-mapping for Energy and Minerals. The objectives of this program are to stimulate economic development in northern Canada and to diversify the economy of northern communities by providing new geoscientific data on energy and mineral potential. These objectives have led to the implementation of numerous projects by the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC), conducted in collaboration with territorial and provincial geological surveys as well as students enrolled in graduate programs. Several of these projects involve a surficial geology component and the sampling of till. As a first step towards the development of consistent methodologies for the GSC's GEM projects that include till sampling activities, a working group of Quaternary scientists from the Northern Canada Division has prepared this protocol manual. The purpose of the protocols presented in this manual is not to restrict development of or experimentation with new methodologies but rather to ensure that projects use common methods for sample collection, preparation and analysis as a minimum. These protocols will ultimately allow comparison of data sets separated by large distances and gathered through the course of different projects. Hopefully, the protocols presented herein will be adopted in future programs with objectives similar to GEM. However, adaptation and modification of these protocols will be required as technological developments continue and new ideas and concepts are put forward"--Introd., p. 1, 2.

Book Regolith Exploration Geochemistry in Arctic and Temperate Terrains

Download or read book Regolith Exploration Geochemistry in Arctic and Temperate Terrains written by Kauranne Kauranne and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-03-05 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geochemists, geologists, chemists, mathematicians, technicians and amateur prospectors alike will find this a practically oriented and comprehensive handbook for use in the field or office. It describes methodologies for assessing overburden in Arctic and temperate regions. Scientists can study the composition of bedrock by analyzing the overburden and ores found by the separation of the anomalies from the chemical background variation. This task is a very demanding one for previously glaciated terrain, where overburden consists totally of transported and mixed materials. It is possible to trace back the anomalies found in glacial till and sometimes those found in glacifluvial sediments. Special care in sampling and preparation of samples for analysis as well as very sensitive methods of analysis are necessary in obtaining results suitable for successful interpretation. The present handbook is dedicated to these vital problems. The genesis of overburden formations and the character of geochemical anomalies are discussed at length, after which examples are provided from a variety of situations. Articles concerning practical aspects of sampling, analysis and mathematical treatment, written specifically to help investigations are also included. The text is illustrated by 196 drawings, 32 tables and the selected bibliography contains 533 references. A key word list makes the handbook easy to use.

Book Chemical Elements in the Environment

Download or read book Chemical Elements in the Environment written by Clemens Reimann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How large is the natural variation in concentration of the various elements in different media? How do the oft-cited "World average concentrations" in different media compare with actual analytical data? How low a detection limit do I need to attain if I want to analyse for an element in soils, sediments, water or plants? All these questions and many more can be answered by using this unique reference book. It collates data on the most important properties and uses of all naturally occurring chemical elements. It combines these with data obtained from actual analyses of different sample media (soil, stream sediment, stream water, ground water, plants, human body fluids). This combination of facts and actual data makes this book suitable for learning and teaching applied geochemistry as well.
