Book TikTok Algorithms 2024

Download or read book TikTok Algorithms 2024 written by Jordan Smith and published by Jordan Smith. This book was released on 2022-05-05 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TikTok is a highly creative platform, and it definitely rewards those who often create and post! It's ideal two to three times a day, if you really want to gain popularity on TikTok, you won't cut it once a week. So, in just two months, I've gone from zero to 10K followers!” - Sharn Rayment, multimedia freelance producer. You definitely have to embrace and commit to using TikTok to the fullest extent possible to create a content backlog for the for-you page. As for younger and older generations, TikTok has democratized creativity and social media. The app has the highest rate of follower engagement across 100,000 user profiles sampled in an Influencer Marketing Hub online research project. If marketers merely consider it as a "dancing device" and don't change their approach to include TikTok content, they'll be really bitter in a couple of years. Watching Instagram influencers repurpose Instagram content to TikTok at the start of lockdown shows the polished advertising on this site doesn't wash. We always noticed when Instagram stories came up, there was a trend for shorter, more digestible content. Yet TikTok proves that users can return for more when you get the form of content right. According to official figures from TikTok, its customers remain faithful and are starting to return to the app. In fact, 90% of users use the app several times a day. Overall, TikTok is asking us to reconsider the way our content is strategized. I do hope these tips givse you some ideas on how to handle TikTok and the way you prepare and create your content in general.

Book The Rise of the Algorithms

Download or read book The Rise of the Algorithms written by John M. Jordan and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2024-03-19 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The meteoric rise of online video is reshaping the competition for human attention. The Rise of the Algorithms argues that this new technology has changed the way we interact with others, our relationships with public institutions, and our very own behaviors and psyches. In tracing the origins and evolution of online video, John M. Jordan examines the mechanics—and the ethical stakes—of online video platforms, especially YouTube and TikTok but also others, such as Twitch. Tracing the use of algorithms pioneered by Facebook and Google and so successfully exploited by TikTok’s corporate parent, ByteDance, Jordan shows how these platforms now engineer human behavior—with consequences for culture, politics, and identity. Jordan argues that we are at an inflection point. Until now we have proved, as a society, ill-prepared or unwilling to address such problems as the power of digital platforms, the personal cost of viral celebrity, the invasion of privacy, and the proliferation of disinformation. The Rise of the Algorithms combines this urgent assessment with a clear-eyed discussion of present challenges and recommendations for reclaiming our online futures. A valuable resource for understanding the transformations that have been and will be brought by YouTube, TikTok, and similar platforms, Jordan’s timely book is a vital work for anyone who uses the internet and especially for policy makers, technologists, communication and media specialists, and researchers who have a direct hand in determining the future of our online world.

Book Living with Algorithms

Download or read book Living with Algorithms written by Ignacio Siles and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2023-04-25 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A nuanced account from a user perspective of what it’s like to live in a datafied world. We live in a media-saturated society that increasingly transforms our experiences, relations, and identities into data others can analyze and monetize. Algorithms are key to this process, surveilling our most mundane practices, and to many, their control over our lives seems absolute. In Living with Algorithms, Ignacio Siles critically challenges this view by surveying user dynamics in the global south across three algorithmic platforms—Netflix, Spotify, and TikTok—and finds, surprisingly, a more balanced relationship. Drawing on a wealth of empirical evidence that privileges the user over the corporate, Siles examines the personal relationships that have formed between users and algorithms as Latin Americans have integrated these systems into the structures of everyday life, enacted them ritually, participated in public with and through them, and thwarted them. Sometimes users follow algorithms, Siles finds, and sometimes users resist them. At times, users do both. Agency lies in the navigation of the spaces in-between. By analyzing what we do with algorithms rather than what algorithms do to us, Living with Algorithms clarifies the debate over the future of datafication and whether we have a say in its development. Concentrating on an understudied region of the global south, the book provides a new perspective on the commonalities and differences among users within a global ecology of technologies.

Book Algorithms Humans and Interactions

Download or read book Algorithms Humans and Interactions written by Don Donghee Shin and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-01-31 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amidst the rampant use of algorithmization enabled by AI, the common theme of AI systems is the human factor. Humans play an essential role in designing, developing, and operationalizing AI systems. We have a remit to ensure those systems run transparently, perform equitably, value our privacy, and effectively fulfill human needs. This book takes an interdisciplinary approach to contribute to the ongoing development of human–AI interaction with a particular focus on the "human" dimension and provides insights to improve the design of AI that could be genuinely beneficial and effectively used in society. The readers of this book will benefit by gaining insights into various perspectives about how AI has impacted people and society and how it will do so in the future, and understanding how we can design algorithm systems that are beneficial, legitimate, usable by humans, and designed considering and respecting human values. This book provides a horizontal set of guidelines and insight into how humans can be empowered by making choices about AI designs that allow them meaningful control over AI. Designing meaningful AI experiences has garnered great attention to address responsibility gaps and mitigate them by establishing conditions that enable the proper attribution of responsibility to humans. This book helps us understand the possibilities of what AI systems can do and how they can and should be integrated into our society.

Book The Routledge Handbook of Queer Rhetoric

Download or read book The Routledge Handbook of Queer Rhetoric written by Jacqueline Rhodes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-04-25 with total page 678 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Routledge Handbook of Queer Rhetoric maps the ongoing becoming of queer rhetoric in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, offering a dynamic overview of the history of and scholarly research in this field. The handbook features rhetorical scholarship that explicitly uses and extends insights from work in queer and trans theories to understand and critique intersections of rhetoric, gender, class, and sexuality. More important, chapters also attend to the intersections of constructs of queerness with race, class, ability, and neurodiversity. In so doing, the book acknowledges the many debts contemporary queer theory has to work by scholars of color, feminists, and activists, inside and outside the academy. The first book of its kind, the handbook traces and documents the emergence of this subfield within rhetorical studies while also pointing the way toward new lines of inquiry, new trajectories in scholarship, and new modalities and methods of analysis, critique, intervention, and speculation. This handbook is an invaluable resource for scholars, graduate students, and advanced undergraduate students studying rhetoric, communication, cultural studies, and queer studies.

Book The De Gruyter Handbook of Automated Futures

This book was released on 2024-09-23 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does automation affect us, our environment, and our imaginations? What actions should we take in response to automation? Beyond grand narratives and technology-driven visions of the future, what more can automation offer? With these questions in mind, The De Gruyter Handbook of Automated Futures provides a framework for thinking about and implementing automation differently. It consolidates automated futures as an inter- and transdisciplinary research field, embedding the imaginaries, interactions, and impacts of automation technology within their social, historical, societal, cultural, and political contexts. Promoting a critical yet constructive and engaging agenda, the handbook invites readers to collaborate with rather than resist automation agendas. It does so by pushing the agenda for social science, humanities and design beyond merely assessing and evaluating existing technologies. Instead, the handbook demonstrates how the humanities and social sciences are essential to the design and governance of sustainable sociotechnical systems. Methodologically, the handbook is underpinned by a pedagogical approach to staging co-learning and co-creation of automated futures with, rather than simply for, people. In this way, the handbook encourages readers to explore new and alternative modes of research, fostering a deeper engagement with the evolving landscape of automation.
