Book Tidal Prism area Relationship in a Model Inlet

Download or read book Tidal Prism area Relationship in a Model Inlet written by I. V. Nayak and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study attempts to relate some of the variables that influence the behavior of tidal inlets, especially the tidal prism-area relationship for a model-size inlet which was investigated for the cases of: (a) no jetties (b) twin jetties. The results are compared with published data from field and model studies and are found to be fair in agreement. (Author).

Book Tidal Prism Inlet Area Relationships

Download or read book Tidal Prism Inlet Area Relationships written by James T. Jarrett and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tidal prism - inlet area relationships for inlets on sandy coast established by M.P. O'Brien (1931 and 1969) were reanalyzed using his data and data published by other investigators. In addition, tidal prism and inlet cross-sectional area data developed in the Inlet Classification Study were also used. These data result in a total of 162 data points for 108 inlets--59 located on the Atlantic coast, 24 on the Gulf coast, and 25 on the Pacific coast of the United States. The data are grouped into three main categoriesL (1) all inlets, (2) unjettied and single-jettied inlets, and (3) inlets with two jetties. Regression analysis was performed on each set of data to determine the equations of best fit and to establish 95% confidence limits for the equations and the constants in the equations. The results of the regression analysis indicate that the tidal prism - inlet area relationship is not a unique function for all inlets but varies depending on inlet location and whether or not the inlet has been stabilized with a dual jetty system.

Book Tidal Inlet Equilibrium Area Experiments Inlet Laboratory Investigations

Download or read book Tidal Inlet Equilibrium Area Experiments Inlet Laboratory Investigations written by William C. Seabergh and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was designed to examine the relationship among channel area, tidal period, tidal prism, and maximum channel velocity. Movable-bed model experiments were run to define an equilibrium area for different tidal periods and sediments. The magnitude of the areas measured provided additional data for the relationship of the tidal prism versus minimum channel area in a size range slightly larger than previous laboratory data in the continuum to very large field inlets. These data may help define the tidal prism-minimum channel cross-sectional area relationship in the midrange channel size.

Book Hydrodynamics and Sediment Dynamics of Tidal Inlets

Download or read book Hydrodynamics and Sediment Dynamics of Tidal Inlets written by David G. Aubrey and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Along much of the shoreline of the world, tidal inlets play an important role in nearshore processes, providing links between the coastal oceans and protected embayments. Their study is of particular importance not only for the understanding of fundamental processes in coastal oceanography but also for engineering and the proper management of the delicate equilibrium of our shorelines. This volume, based on the International Symposium on Hydrodynamics and Sediment Dynamics of Tidal Inlets held at Woods Hole, MA, presents the reader with an overview of contemporary research on these important features. The coverage includes: - mathematical modelling, including a review of inlet hydrodynamics, - observations on hydrodynamics, - sedimentology and morphology, - tidal deltas, - processes and policies pertaining to sedimentation, and the - impacts of shore protection and dredging in beaches.

Book Stability of Tidal Inlets

Download or read book Stability of Tidal Inlets written by P. Bruun and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developments in Geotechnical Engineering, 23: Stability of Tidal Inlets: Theory and Engineering focuses on all aspects related to tidal inlets on littoral drift shores where freshwater flow is small or non-existing. The selection first tackles the development and configuration of tidal inlets and inlet hydraulics. Discussions focus on flow dynamics and nearshore transport, combinations of waves and currents, sediment transport and storage in the tidal entrance, offsets of tidal inlets, natural inlet regimen, migration of inlets, and origin of tidal inlets. The manuscript then examines sediment transport in tidal inlets, stability of tidal inlets on littoral drift shores, and design and improvements of coastal inlets. Topics cover ocean entrance, overall stability condition, hydraulic and sedimentary principles, non-scouring channels, transport of sediments in wave agitated waters, and sediment transport by combined wave and current action. The publication explores improvements by structures, including natural bypassing, types of improvement, and bypassing by structures and bypassing plants or arrangements. The selection is a valuable source of data for researchers interested in the stability of tidal inlets.
