Book Keeping Faith in an Age of Reason

Download or read book Keeping Faith in an Age of Reason written by Dr. Jason Lisle and published by New Leaf Publishing Group. This book was released on 2017-09-20 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Critics often claim that the Bible cannot be true because it has contradictions. Other critics hear this claim and repeat it. But few bother to check to see if it is really true. A popular list of 439 alleged Bible contradictions has been circulating on the Internet for years. Many critics refer to this list as the definitive proof that the Bible is flawed. But apparently none of them bothered to actually check. Interestingly, not one of these 439 claims is a genuine contradiction. This shows that critics generally do not perform careful scholarship. When critics allege that the Bible has contradictions, Christians should be ready and able to provide an intelligent answer. The idea that people reject the Bible for good, intellectual reasons is a myth and it needs to be exposed as such. In the process of researching the biblical text, we learn more about God and His sovereignty throughout human history. The Bible really is supremely accurate and self-consistent; critics of the Bible are not. Although there are a handful of Christian resources for answering alleged Bible contradictions, none are so expansive in so short a volume. Each answer is as concise as possible, so that the book is not overly cumbersome. Many Christians have heard the claim that the Bible has contradictions and they would like to be better equipped to answer the critic. This book is for them!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 196 Squadron was formed in late 1942 as a night bomber squadron, in No. 4 Group Bomber Command. It was February 1943 before the squadron became operational with the first sorties being bombing raids on U Boat pens at Lorient, France flying Vickers Wellington aircraft. As well as the bombing raids the squadron also was used for 'gardening' (minelaying) sorties. The unit was then transferred to No.3 Group and re-equipped with Mk III Short Stirlings. Soon afterwards, the Stirling was removed from front-line bombing operations, in favour of the Lancaster and Halifax. Later in 1943 the squadron transferred once more, this time to 38 Group, Allied Expeditionary Air Force (AEAF). Its new role included glider-towing, troop carrying and secret operations for the S.O.E. and S.A.S. The squadron took part in all the main invasion operations on and after D-Day, including the ill-fated Arnhem operation and then the successful Rhine Crossings. Its operational effectiveness was at the cost of numerous aircraft and crews. When the war in Europe ended the squadron was used to repatriate troops and help misplaced refugees. Steve Holmes' book replicates the squadron's operational record, telling its story as it unfolded day by day. It is Steve's second book. His first, Sherlock's Squadron, is a biographical novel of his father and his father's crew in 196 Squadron during World War II. This prompted Steve to research and write this book on the squadron's history. Steve has been the squadron's historian for the past 25 years. He is retired and lives in the south of Spain. He spends his time researching and writing and helping his good friend with his charity business.

Book Keeping Faith

Download or read book Keeping Faith written by D. Stephen Long and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-03-01 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Keeping Faith offers resources to help Christians reclaim the importance of doctrine and thereby know and love well God and God's creation. Although it gives particular attention to the Wesleyan and Methodist tradition, it is of necessity an ecumenical effort. Neither the Wesleyans nor the Methodists invented Christian doctrine. In fact, the Wesleyan tradition contributes little that is distinctive or unique. This is a good thing, for unlike other disciplines where originality and uniqueness matter greatly, Christian doctrine depends on others and not the genius of some individual. Chesterton once said that Christianity is the democracy of the dead. In other words, doctrine depends on the communion of the saints. They help us speak of God as we should. We need to hear their voice. For this reason, this work is an ecumenical commentary on the Confession of Faith and Articles of Religion found in the Wesleyan tradition that also draws on ancient and modern witnesses to God's glory. It is ecumenical because it brings these doctrines into conversation with the broader Christian tradition. Doctrine unites us in a "communion," which is greater than any single denomination and makes us what we otherwise cannot be: one, holy, catholic and apostolic.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The culmination of their story points to a fairytale ending. And why shouldn’t they have one after all they’ve been through? Gabe Scott and Faith Brooks were reunited more than a year after their relationship ended badly. In the interim, Faith had returned to her old life and was content. But there was still a part of her heart Gabe would always hold. So, when he turned up on her doorstep a transformed man, and they rekindled their relationship, she thought since they’d already been through the fire, their future looked bright. Now he’s proposed and, with marriage and the reunion of their little family, they’re excited to move on. But as they prepare for the wedding and seek to put their past behind them, it proves harder than expected. It seems the factors stacked against them during their engagement are following them into their marriage and Faith’s doubts are growing. Did they make a mistake? Was it too soon? Do they have too much baggage for this to work? The trust that had eroded between them the year they dated has barely had time to rebuild, and what is a relationship without trust? Keeping their faith strong and their marriage together is draining them of the passion that once bound them so tightly. And Faith begins to struggle to recognize the person she’s becoming. Can they keep their faith in the Lord and each other together? Amidst this turmoil, a tragic turn of events throws them into a tailspin of doubt and threatens to strip them of both their faith and their marriage. Suddenly, they’re faced with the question not of whether they’ll get their fairytale ending, but whether they’ll be together in the end at all.

Book Keeping Faith with Human Rights

Download or read book Keeping Faith with Human Rights written by Linda Hogan and published by Georgetown University Press. This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of modernity's great civilizing triumphs, human rights, still endures sustained attempts at disenfranchisement. Linda Hogan defends human rights language while simultaneously reenvisioning its future. Drawing on the constructivist strand of political philosophy, she shows that it is theoretically possible and politically necessary for theologians to keep faith with human rights. Indeed, she argues, the Christian tradition as the wellspring of many of the ethical commitments considered central to human rights must embrace its vital role in the project.

Book Keeping Faith with the Psalms

Download or read book Keeping Faith with the Psalms written by Daniel F. Polish, PhD and published by Turner Publishing Company. This book was released on 2011-05-03 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explore your spiritual life. Create a personal theology. Challenge and test your faith—all using the Book of Psalms. The Book of Psalms has been beloved by generations of readers. It offers solace in times of trouble, holds out hope for rescue and redemption, and helps to answer some of the difficult questions raised by faith. The Book of Psalms is more personal than other books of the Bible; instead of telling stories with God as the central actor, the psalmists talk to—and about—God. Keeping Faith with the Psalms leads you into the Bible to discover ways you can use the Psalms to shape your own personal spiritual outlook. Daniel Polish does not give any simple solutions, but reveals how you can discover answers for yourself through the Psalms. You will explore: Meeting God in Nature Finding God in Torah Finding God through the Historical Experience of the Jewish People The Problem of Evil in Our World Facing Our Mortality Finding Our Relationship with God Jerusalem as Symbol and Reality What Does the Lord Require? The Call to Social Justice Through the threads of meaning, questions, and perspectives offered in the psalms themselves, Rabbi Polish’s guide offers an intimate look at the issues that touch and influence your personal theology.

Book Keeping Faith in Fundraising

Download or read book Keeping Faith in Fundraising written by Harris & Wilson and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2016-12-28 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundraising has always been an essential element of the Christian life: churches, schools, and many other organizations rely on it to function. But it is a risky enterprise, fraught with questions and challenges. How can Christians raise funds with integrity? In this book Peter Harris and Rod Wilson, experienced fundraisers themselves, bring fundraising within the scope of normal Christian life and work. They consider fundraising in light of the relationships that lie at its heart--with God, with creation, and with ourselves. After first laying a biblical foundation by discussing 2 Corinthians 8-9, Harris and Wilson develop seven themes central to the giving and receiving of money: integration, people, work, success, need, method, and money. In a final section, the authors offer their own personal experiences, questions, suggestions, and valuable insights that they have gained from their many years of fundraising as Christians.
