Book excerpt: Excerpt from Three Sides of Life, From a Sinful, Moral and Christian Standpoint But I got tired of living on a farm, and told my mother I was not cut out for a farmer, and that I was going to town to look for something to do. So to town I went; and it was but a short time until they all followed me. I went to work for a groceryman, driving delivery wagon, at twelve dollars per month. I worked for him about three months, then got a position as messenger boy for the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway, at fifteen dollars per month, and in a short time was promoted to car checker, with a salary of forty-five dollars. I remained at this position for some time, and quit only because my mother wished me to learn some trade. I went to work then in a barber shop, receiving four dollars per month for six months, then eight dollars per month for three months, and finally, six dollars per week for three months; having to sign a contract for one year before I could go to work at all. Ifollowed this business for most six years, but finally drifted back-to railroading, as I liked that better than anything I ever did, and am yet at it. Steve continues through the book to show readers that while they can never manage sin, they can relax in knowing that they are completely forgiven—not just of three, but of all.
