Book Three Essays on Innovation

Book excerpt: In the second essay, position in a network of strategic partners (i.e. centrality, constraint, and range) is assessed as an external predictor of innovation. The results of the second essay suggest that having many strategic partners (being central) and controlling the flow of knowledge among those partners (being unconstrained) are positively related to innovation. Finally, in the third essay, internal and external predictors are combined with the characteristics of strategic partners in a network analysis. The results support the findings of the first two essays and further suggest that firms should consider the resources of both their direct and indirect strategic partners when attempting to innovate. Taken together, the results of the three essays highlight the value of more universal predictors of innovation and suggest that managers and researchers focus on the basics of knowledge creation and acquisition when pursuing innovation.

Download or read book Three Essays on Innovation in Family Firms and Corporate Governance written by Malgorzata Kurak and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Three essays on individual innovation behavior in SMEs

Download or read book Three essays on individual innovation behavior in SMEs written by Waleed Omri and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Innovation in Corporate Finance

Download or read book Innovation in Corporate Finance written by Polina Sperling and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation focuses on corporate innovation. The three essays explore different aspects of how corporations manage, motivate, and use their innovation. The first essay explores patent litigation as a competitive tool used either by large corporations with declining innovation capabilities or by corporations facing greater competition from innovative industry rivals. Results suggest that large firms are more likely to pursue patent litigation to deter competition from startups that tend to generate patents with more forward citations. The second essay focuses on a firm's decision to pursue innovation and lobbying to form competitive barriers. The essay finds that the largest firms produce most of the knowledge output within an economy as measured by firm-year forward citations. Similarly, lobbying is shown to be predominant among the largest firms. The essay further studies a specific type of innovation, Clean Technology, and how large corporations' success in clean technology development influences their decision to pursue lobbying activities. Overall, the findings suggest that firms' engagement in lobbying depends on the success of their innovation activities. This finding is consistent the protectionist role of lobbying when firms pursue lobbying to protect the status quo. Lastly, the third essay looks at how firms motivate innovation through the board of directors. The essay examines director equity compensation as a mechanism used to align the boards' incentives with the incentives of shareholders. Results support the incentives alignment mechanism, and they highlight the important role that the board of directors plays in the pursuit of corporate innovation

Book Three Essays on Innovation Dynamics

Download or read book Three Essays on Innovation Dynamics written by Subhadeep Datta and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation contains three essays on the theme of industry-level innovation and different aspects of innovation. The essays contribute to the literatures of institutional theory, categories, commercialization, evaluation, responsible innovation, and governance of innovation. Over the past few decades, the world has observed a wave of commercialization which has changed the way many actions are performed. One of the key features has been that of the state relinquishing its control over many activities that are now performed in the market. This wave of commercialization has given rise to some unique and innovative forms of organization within existing industries. Some of the outcomes of these innovative forms of organizations are the emergence of new categories, hybridization of existing categories, tensions between various stakeholders because of the hybridizations, emergence of new performance evaluation systems, and new questions being raised on ethical and moral grounds concerning the application of such innovations. In this dissertation I have attempted to address some of these aforementioned aspects of industry-level innovation.
