Book High Speed Data Acquisition System for Three Dimensional X Ray and Neutron Computed Tomography

Download or read book High Speed Data Acquisition System for Three Dimensional X Ray and Neutron Computed Tomography written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computed tomography for nondestructive evaluation applications has been limited by system cost, resolution, and time requirements for three-dimensional data sets. FlashCT (Flat panel Amorphous Silicon High-Resolution Computed Tomography) is a system developed at Los Alamos National Laboratory to address these three problems. Developed around a flat panel amorphous silicon detector array, FlashCT is suitable for low to medium energy x-ray and neutron computed tomography at 127-micron resolution. Overall system size is small, allowing rapid transportation to a variety of radiographic sources. System control software was developed in LabVIEW for Windows NT to allow multithreading of data acquisition, data correction, and staging motor control. The system control software simplifies data collection and allows fully automated control of the data acquisition process, leading toward remote or unattended operation. The first generation of the FlashCT Data Acquisition System was completed in Au gust 1998, and since that time the system has been tested using x-ray sources ranging in energy from 60 kV to 20MV. The system has also been used to collect data for thermal neutron computed tomography at Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE). System improvements have been proposed to provide faster data collection and greater dynamic range during data collection.

Book Neutron Radiography Handbook

Download or read book Neutron Radiography Handbook written by Peter von der Hardt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radiography with neutrons can yield important information not obtainable by more traditional methods. In contrast to X-rays as the major tool of visual non-destructive testing, neutrons can be attenuated by light materials like water, hydrocarbons, boron, penetrate through heavy materials like steel, lead, uranium, distinguish between different isotopes of certain elements, supply high quality radiographs of highly radioactive components. These advantages have led to multiple applications of neutron radiography since 1955, both for non-nuclear and nuclear problems of quality assurance. The required neutron beams originate from radioisotopic sources, accelerator targets, or research reactors. Energy "tailoring" which strongly influences the interaction with certain materials adds to the versatility of the method. Since about 1970 norms and standards have been introduced and reviewed both in Europe (Birmingham, September 1973) and the United States (Gaithersburg, February 1975). The first world conference on neutron radiography will take place in December 1981, in San Diego, U.S.A. . In Europe the interested laboratories inside the European Community have entered into systematic collaboration through the Neutron Radiography Working Group (NRWGl. since May 1979. This Handbook has been compiled as one of the common tasks undertaken by the Group. Its principal authors are J.C. Domanus (Ris0 National Laboratory). and R.S. Matfield (Joint Research Centre, Ispra) Major contributions have been received from R. Liesenborgs (SCK/CEN Mol) R. Barbalat (CEN Saclayl.

Book An Evaluation of Neutron Radiography for Radioisotopic Heat Sources

Download or read book An Evaluation of Neutron Radiography for Radioisotopic Heat Sources written by A. G. Barnett and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neutron radiography was evaluated for application on isotopic heat sources. Three specimens were radiographed: (1) a Haynes alloy No. 25 container filled with a 50-50 wt % mixture of tungsten and molybdenum, (2) a tantalum-10 wt % tungsten cylinder with a welded end cap, and (3) a radioactive heat source containing three small capsules of 238Pu metal. Neutron radiographs were compared with gamma and x-ray radiographs and were found to compete favorably in most cases.

Book Practical Neutron Radiography

Download or read book Practical Neutron Radiography written by J.C. Domanus and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-08-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TIlls book is the result of an effort made by several members of the Euratom Neutron Radiography Working Group (NRWG) to produce a new, revised and enlarged edition of the Neutron Radiography Handbooldlj (NRH), written by members of the NRWG and published in 1981, just before the First World Conference on Neutron Radiography (WCNR) (1981). Members of the NRWG have contributed with many papers both to the first (1981)[2), as well as the second (1986)[3) and third (1989) [4) World Conference on Neutron Radiography (WCNR). They were also among the editors of the proceedings of those conferences (1982, 1987, 1990). The NRWG was constituted mainly for the purpose of promoting neutron radiography (NR) in the field of nuclear reactor fuel. Therefore the next topical publication of the NRWG were Reference Neutron Radiographs of Nuclear Reactor Fuel (1984)[5). The book on Collimators for y Thermal Neutron Radiograph 6/ written in 1987 by a member of the NRWG was another publication in the same series of books on NR. To the same series belongs the present book on Practical Neutron Radiography (PNR). It will be followed soon by another book written by the members of the NRWG: Neutron Radiography on Nitrocellulose Filmf71. The NRWG concentrated its interest in the past years on the problem of dimensional measurements from neutron radiographs. The results of the investigation of this problem were summarized in a special EUR report about the Neutron Radiography Working Group Test Program[8/ published in 1989.

Book Neutron Radiography and Tomography

Download or read book Neutron Radiography and Tomography written by Walter James Williams and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this work was to determine and optimize the resolution of a neutron sensitive Multi-Channel Plate (MCP) detector in order to determine its capabilities in radiography and tomography. The Oregon State University, Neutron Radiography Facility added an MCP Detector in 2012 in order to analyze these capabilities. The leading factor in the generation of both two-dimensional and three-dimensional imaging was the spatial resolution of the detector. The MCP detector developed by Nova Scientific Inc. uses the 10B(n, [alpha])Li7 reaction within the MCP's bulk walls in order to convert the neutron into an [alpha] and lithium particle which have a high probability of initiating an electron avalanche that generates an output pulse. This reaction governs the spatial resolution. The detector's mechanics allow for a theoretical maximum spatial resolution of 17 [micro]m. By fine tuning the electronics and using a thermal neutron beam, count rates can be recorded throughout the active detector area, where lower count rates can be used to identify areas of neutron absorption or attenuation within the object. These differences are used to create a radiograph which gives information on the material's attenuation coefficient and geometry of the object being imaged. For this study, the objects include resolution masks, American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standards, along with a variety of other materials. Since the radiograph is digitally created in near real-time, the detector has the capability of neutron tomography with the radiograph's resolution being on the order of the theoretical limit.
