This book was released on 1981 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is a user's guide for CTABS80, a computer program for the linear three-dimensional structural analysis of multistory frame and shear wall buildings subjected to static or dynamic loadings. In CTABS80, the building is idealized as an assemblage of vertical independent frame and shear wall systems interconnected by horizontal floor diaphragms which are rigid in their own plane. The frame and shear wall systems must basically be of rectangular geometry (in elevation) with vertical columns (or piers) and horizontal beams (or spandrels). However, with special modeling techniques, very complex situations may be considered. A special shear panel element is developed to enable modeling of discontinuous shear walls and shear walls with arbitrary openings. A diagonal bracing element to model braced frames (X-braced, K-braced, or eccentrically braced systems) is also presented. The column, shear panel, and diagonal formulations include the effects of bending, axial, and shear deformations. Bending and shear deformations are also included in the beam formulation; however, the effects of axial deformations are neglected. The effects of the finite dimensions of the beams and columns on the stiffness of a frame or shear wall system are automatically included.

Book excerpt: This report presents the theoretical basis for CTABS80, a computer program for the linear three-dimensional structural analysis of multistory frame and shear wall buildings subjected to static or dynamic loadings. In CTABS80, the building is idealized as an assemblage of vertical independent frame and shear wall systems interconnected by horizontal floor diaphragms which are rigid in their own plane. Bending and shear deformations are also included in the beam formulation: however, the effects of axial deformations are neglected. The effects of the finite dimensions of the beams and columns on the stiffness of a frame or shear wall system are automatically included. The buildings may be unsymmetrical and nonrectangular in plan. Torsional behavior and interstory compatibility are accurately reflected in the results.
Download or read book Earthquake Engineering for Nuclear Facilities written by Masanori Hamada and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-12 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive compilation of earthquake- and tsunami-related technologies and knowledge for the design and construction of nuclear facilities. As such, it covers a wide range of fields including civil engineering, architecture, geotechnical engineering, mechanical engineering, and nuclear engineering, for the development of new technologies providing greater resistance against earthquakes and tsunamis. It is crucial both for students of nuclear energy courses and for young engineers in nuclear power generation industries to understand the basics and principles of earthquake- and tsunami-resistant design of nuclear facilities. In Part I, "Seismic Design of Nuclear Power Plants", the design of nuclear power plants to withstand earthquakes and tsunamis is explained, focusing on buildings, equipment's, and civil engineering structures. In Part II, "Basics of Earthquake Engineering", fundamental knowledge of earthquakes and tsunamis as well as the dynamic response of structures and foundation ground are explained.

This book was released on 2023-05-20 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book is compilation of selected papers from 2nd International Conference on Innovative Solutions in Hydropower Engineering and Civil Engineering (HECE 2022). The work focuses on novel techniques for topics in hydropower and sustainable development, maximizing and communicating the multiple benefits of hydro, the food-water-energy nexus approach, synergy among the renewables, making hydro more competitive (managing and mitigating risk), regional development through power trading, hydropower technology, civil engineering, materials for dams and appurtenant works, advances in design and construction techniques, recent developments in dam construction, monitoring and engineering for safe structures and sites. Hydropower offers significant potential for carbon emissions reductions. The installed capacity of hydropower by the end of 2008 contributed 16% of worldwide electricity supply, and hydropower remains the largest source of renewable energy in the electricity sector. The contents make valuable contributions to academic researchers, engineers in the industry, and regulators of hydropower and civil engineering authorities.

Download or read book Design and Construction of Smart Cities written by Ibrahim El Dimeery and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-23 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on how to maintain environmental sustainability as one of its main principles, and it addresses how smart cities serve to diminish wastes and maintain natural resources by having clean green energy that is operated by new smart technology designs. Living in a smart city is not something of the future anymore, it is here, and it is being implemented all over the world. A smart city uses different types of electronic Internet of things (IoT) sensors to collect data and then use these data to manage assets and resources efficiently. The smart city concept integrates information and communication technology (ICT), and various physical devices connected to the IoT network to optimize the efficiency of city operations and services and achieve sustainable solutions to allow us to grow with proper management of our resources. Smart sustainable structures and infrastructures face the need of urban areas due to the growth of populations while in the same time save our environment. To achieve this, we need to revisit the conventional methods in design and construction and the conventional materials which are used now to optimize the design and provide smart solutions. In the past few years, the consumption of resources has been massive, and the waste produced from that consumption has been inconceivable. This is causing environmental degradation, which produces many environmental challenges, such as global climate change, excessive fossil fuel dependency and the growing demand for energy. As well as, discussing the challenges facing the civil engineering design and construction of smart cities components and presenting concepts and insight from experts and researchers from different civil engineering disciplines., this book explains how to construct buildings and special structures and how to manage and monitor energy.
