Book Three dimensional Modelling and Geothermal Process Simulation

Download or read book Three dimensional Modelling and Geothermal Process Simulation written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subsurface geological model or 3-D GIS is constructed from three kinds of objects, which are a lithotope (in boundary representation), a number of fault systems, and volumetric textures (vector fields). The chief task of the model is to yield an estimate of the conductance tensors (fluid permeability and thermal conductivity) throughout an array of voxels. This is input as material properties to a FEHM numerical physical process model. The main task of the FEHM process model is to distinguish regions of convective from regions of conductive heat flow, and to estimate the fluid phase, pressure and flow paths. The temperature, geochemical, and seismic data provide the physical constraints on the process. The conductance tensors in the Franciscan Complex are to be derived by the addition of two components. The isotropic component is a stochastic spatial variable due to disruption of lithologies in melange. The deviatoric component is deterministic, due to smoothness and continuity in the textural vector fields. This decomposition probably also applies to the engineering hydrogeological properties of shallow terrestrial fluvial systems. However there are differences in quantity. The isotropic component is much more variable in the Franciscan, to the point where volumetric averages are misleading, and it may be necessary to select that component from several, discrete possible states. The deviatoric component is interpolated using a textural vector field. The Franciscan field is much more complicated, and contains internal singularities. 27 refs., 10 figs.

Book Three Dimensional Modeling with Geoscientific Information Systems

Download or read book Three Dimensional Modeling with Geoscientific Information Systems written by A.K. Turner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A. K. TURNER Department of Geology and Geological Engineering Colorado School of Mines Golden, Colorado 80401 USA Geology deals with three-dimensional data. Geoscientists are concerned with three dimensional spatial observations, measurements, and explanations of a great variety of phenomena. The representation of three-dimensional data has always been a problem. Prior to computers, graphical displays involved specialized maps, cross-sections, fence diagrams, and geometrical constructions such as stereonets. All were designed to portray three-dimensional relationships on two-dimensional paper products, and all were time consuming to develop. Until recently, computers were of little assistance to three-dimensional data handling and representation problems. Memory was too expensive to handle the huge amounts of data required by three-dimensional assessments; computational speeds were too slow to perform the necessary calculations within a reasonable time; and graphical displays had too Iowa resolution or were much too expensive to produce useful visualizations. Much experience was gained with two-dimensional geographic information systems (GIS), which were applied to many land-use management and resource assessment problems. The two-dimensional GIS field matured rapidly in the late 1980's and became widely accepted. The advent of the modern computer workstation, with its enhanced memory and graphical capabilities at ever more affordable prices, has largely overcome these earlier constraints.

Book Three Dimensional Geophysical Modeling

Download or read book Three Dimensional Geophysical Modeling written by Andrea Villa and published by Ledizioni. This book was released on 2010 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main object of this thesis is to provide a comprehensive numerical tool forthe three-dimensional simulation of sedimentary basins [94]. Sedimentary basins, in particular salt basins, are the best places to find oil, natural gas and to store dangerous nuclear waste material. The low permeability of salt guarantees low water leakage which is the main concern for the safety of a nuclear waste storage. For this reason one of the best places for a nuclear waste depository is a salt mine. These two applications call for a thorough knowledge of the basin evolution on geological time scales. Until now sedimentary basin studies have been based mainly on geological interpretation: experienced specialists estimate the history of a basin on the basis of common knowledge. More often, they provide a list of possible scenarios. An appropriate numerical simulator can provide the right tool to choose, among these scenarios, the correct one or, at least, the most realistic.

Book Geothermal Energy Research Trends

Download or read book Geothermal Energy Research Trends written by Hermann I. Ueckermann and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2008 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geothermal energy is a form of renewable energy derived from heat deep in the earth's crust. Enormous amounts of thermal energy are continuously generated by the decay of radioactive isotopes of underground rocks and stored in our globe's interior. This heat is as inexhaustible and renewable as solar energy. This heat is brought to the near-surface by thermal conduction and by intrusion into the earth's crust of molten magma originating from great depth. As groundwater is heated, geothermal energy is produced in the form of hot water and steam. The heated groundwater can be used for direct heating of homes and greenhouses, for vegetable drying, and for a number of other uses. These are known as direct uses of geothermal energy. Geothermal energy is also used for electricity production. This book presents leading-edge research in a field destined for increased attention throughout the world.

Book Applied Multidimensional Geological Modeling

Download or read book Applied Multidimensional Geological Modeling written by Alan Keith Turner and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-06-21 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past decades, geological survey organizations have digitized their data handling and holdings, unlocking vast amounts of data and information for computer processing. They have undertaken 3-D modeling alongside, and in some cases instead of, conventional geological mapping and begun delivering both data and interpretations to increasingly diverse stakeholder communities. Applied Multidimensional Geological Modeling provides a citable central source that documents the current capabilities and contributions of leading geological survey organization and other practitioners in industry and academia that are producing multidimensional geological models. This book focuses on applications related to human interactions with conditions in the shallow subsurface, within 100-200 m of the surface. The 26 chapters, developed by 100 contributors associated with 37 organizations, discuss topics relevant to any geologist, scientist, engineer, urban planner, or decision maker whose practice includes assessment or planning of underground space.
