Book The Finite Element Method for Three Dimensional Thermomechanical Applications

Download or read book The Finite Element Method for Three Dimensional Thermomechanical Applications written by Guido Dhondt and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2004-11-19 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though many 'finite element' books exist, this book provides a unique focus on developing the method for three-dimensional, industrial problems. This is significant as many methods which work well for small applications fail for large scale problems, which generally: are not so well posed introduce stringent computer time conditions require robust solution techniques. Starting from sound continuum mechanics principles, derivation in this book focuses only on proven methods. Coverage of all different aspects of linear and nonlinear thermal mechanical problems in solids are described, thereby avoiding distracting the reader with extraneous solutions paths. Emphasis is put on consistent representation and includes the examination of topics which are not frequently found in other texts, such as cyclic symmetry, rigid body motion and nonlinear multiple point constraints. Advanced material formulations include anisotropic hyperelasticity, large strain multiplicative viscoplasticity and single crystal viscoplasticity. Finally, the methods described in the book are implemented in the finite element software CalculiX, which is freely available (www.calculix.de; the GNU General Public License applies). Suited to industry practitioners and academic researchers alike, The Finite Element Method for Three-Dimensional Thermomechanical Applications expertly bridges the gap between continuum mechanics and the finite element method.

Book 3D Multi scale Finite Element Analysis of the Present day Crustal State of Stress and the Recent Kinematic Behaviour of the Northern and Central Upper Rhine Graben

Download or read book 3D Multi scale Finite Element Analysis of the Present day Crustal State of Stress and the Recent Kinematic Behaviour of the Northern and Central Upper Rhine Graben written by Thies Buchmann and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2008 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis focuses on the contemporary stress state of a continental rift structure, the Upper Rhine Graben, and its present-day reactivation and kinematic behaviour. The graben is currently characterised by relatively slow tectonic deformation accompanied by low to medium seismicity and ongoing subsidence. In this context, the reactivation potential of pre-existing faults associated with the graben structure is one of the main goals of this thesis. Three dimensional finite element modelling is used for simulating the stress state of the study area. Based on the evaluation of the fault reactivation potential, a possible contribution of mechanical earth modelling to earthquake hazard assessment is also investigated. Another task of this thesis is the development of a method and work process for the construction of complex model geometries based on the different data types available. In order to establish a procedure that is independent of local computing and software facilities, the work-flow used is predominantly based on commercial software packages. A brief introduction is given on crustal stresses, their definition, determination and classification. Two approaches of shear failure reactivation evaluation, independent of the rheological parameter of fault surfaces, are discussed. In addition, a summary of the finite element method is given. This includes the influence of mesh quality and the implementation of contact problems as well as the ABAQUS implementation of the material models used (elasticity and elasto-plasticity). The thesis also refers to the approach of multi-scale modelling, nesting or sub-modelling using ABAQUS. The consequences of this approach on the boundary conditions and the model geometries are discussed.

Book Finite Element Analysis of Solids and Structures

Download or read book Finite Element Analysis of Solids and Structures written by Sudip S. Bhattacharjee and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-07-18 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finite Element Analysis of Solids and Structures combines the theory of elasticity (advanced analytical treatment of stress analysis problems) and finite element methods (numerical details of finite element formulations) into one academic course derived from the author’s teaching, research, and applied work in automotive product development as well as in civil structural analysis. Features Gives equal weight to the theoretical details and FEA software use for problem solution by using finite element software packages Emphasizes understanding the deformation behavior of finite elements that directly affect the quality of actual analysis results Reduces the focus on hand calculation of property matrices, thus freeing up time to do more software experimentation with different FEA formulations Includes chapters dedicated to showing the use of FEA models in engineering assessment for strength, fatigue, and structural vibration properties Features an easy to follow format for guided learning and practice problems to be solved by using FEA software package, and with hand calculations for model validation This textbook contains 12 discrete chapters that can be covered in a single semester university graduate course on finite element analysis methods. It also serves as a reference for practicing engineers working on design assessment and analysis of solids and structures. Teaching ancillaries include a solutions manual (with data files) and lecture slides for adopting professors.

Book Structural Analysis with Finite Elements

Download or read book Structural Analysis with Finite Elements written by Friedel Hartmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural Analysis with Finite Elements develops the foundations and applications of the finite element method in structural analysis in a language which is familiar to structural engineers and based on a foundation that enables structural engineers to address key questions that arise in computer modelling of structures with finite elements. At the same time, it uncovers the structural mechanics behind the finite element method. This innovative text explores and explains issues such as:

Book Analysis of Laterally Loaded Piles in Multilayered Soil Deposits

Download or read book Analysis of Laterally Loaded Piles in Multilayered Soil Deposits written by Dipanjan Basu and published by Purdue University Press. This book was released on 2007-10-01 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report focuses on the development of a new method of analysis of laterally loaded piles embedded in a multi-layered soil deposit treated as a three-dimensional continuum. Assuming that soil behaves as a linear elastic material, the governing differential equations for the deflection of laterally loaded piles were obtained using energy principles and calculus of variations. The differential equations were solved using both the method of initial parameters and numerical techniques. Soil resistance, pile deflection, slope of the deflected pile, bending moment and shear force can be easily obtained at any depth along the entire pile length. The results of the analysis were in very good agreement with three-dimensional finite element analysis results. The analysis was further extended to account for soil nonlinearity. A few simple constitutive relationships that allow for modulus degradation with increasing strain were incorporated into the analysis. The interaction of piles in groups was also studied.

Book Finite Element Design of Concrete Structures

Download or read book Finite Element Design of Concrete Structures written by Guenter Axel Rombach and published by Thomas Telford. This book was released on 2004 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Finite Element Design of Concrete Structures: practical problems and their solutions the author addresses this blind belief in computer results by offering a useful critique that important details are overlooked due to the flood of information from the output of computer calculations. Indeed, errors in the numerical model may lead in extreme cases to structural failures as the collapse of the so-called Sleipner platform has demonstrated.
