Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The letters of Jesus Christ to the seven churches in Revelation were tailored to address the real needs and challenges of specific churches. As we read these letters, we will discover that the needs and challenges those congregations faced are very much like those faced by our local churches today, and that Christ's word to these seven churches are as relevant now as they were then. As we give heed to the message of these letters, we will be challenged to be the church God intended for us to be. These outlined preaching manuscripts were written and delivered by Gregory Lund. The approach is solidly biblical, and the sermons expositional in nature. This book may be used as a commentary, for sermon preparation, or for group or individual Bible study.

Book excerpt: Pastor Allan Descheneau invites the reader to “walk along with the letter carrier of the Roman Road” as he takes them on an exhilarating journey in his book Letters from Jesus. Well organized and simple to understand, Pastor Allan reveals Jesus’ hopes for His church and their need for repentance, grace, encouragement, and a revitalized relationship with Him. Although these letters were delivered to specific churches almost two thousand years ago, with the help of the Holy Spirit, Pastor Allan is able to draw out the many truths for us today. Just as Ephesus struggled to make love a priority, Smyrna faced persecution, Pergamum endured the flank attacks of Satan, and Thyatira compromised its morality, so do many Christians and congregations struggle with these same issues today. Above all, Letters from Jesus invites the reader to ask, “What would Jesus’ letter be to me?”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The harsh tone of the Greek text is inescapable. Most of our modern Bibles are translations based on the Greek New Testament. So when I began to read the New Testament from the Aramaic language, it was like re-reading the Bible for the first time. The text came alive in a different way, and the burning love of God toward us permeated through the text more than I had ever seen. While translating chapters 2 and 3 of John's Revelation, that this dichotomy became ever more apparent. The Jesus that is so often portrayed as harsh and even violent (Rev 2:23) is seen in a completely different light in the original Aramaic language. He is the same Jesus we read and experience in the Gospels; loving, tender, compassionate. It is with great joy and reverential awe of our Lord Jesus that I present to you the seven letters to the seven churches in the Book of Revelation from Aramaic, the language of Jesus. My hope is that as you meditate on these words, you would experience a cleansing from religiosity, "by the washing of water with the word" (Eph 5:26). May this short read catapult you into a deeper encounter with His love! Here are a few sample texts from this book: "I will come for your sake, immediately, and I will cause them to have an encounter with the sword of my mouth" (Revelation 2:16). "Behold! I will make them come and prostrate themselves before your feet, and they will know that I burn with love for you" (Revelation 3:9). "But you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot. Therefore I am preparing to be causing you to be restored by my mouth" (Revelation 3:16).

Book Seven Letters to Seven Churches

Download or read book Seven Letters to Seven Churches written by Brian McCallum and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seven Letters to Seven Churches is the second volume in Brian McCallum's Breaking the Bread of Revelation series. In it he focuses on the brief letters recorded in Revelation chapters 2 and 3. These two chapters of Revelation provide a picture of Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church, ministering to His Body today! Author Brian McCallum says, "My heart's desire is that pastors and teachers everywhere in Christendom will preach and teach these truths to their local congregations, thus emphasizing by the anointing of the Holy Spirit things which are essential to the Church's overcoming in our day and fulfilling her Great Commission." Although written to first-century Christians, the letters commend, warn, and encourage all overcomers--believers who are living and growing in Christ and obeying His commands. Questions addressed include: What is a Christian's first love, and how can it be maintained? What sin, when tolerated, weakens the Church the most? How can we live so the Lord has no need to rebuke us? God doesn't want us to wait until we get to Heaven to be overcomers. He has made it possible for us to live now in the privileges He gives us.

Book excerpt: “In Revelation 2:2, Jesus tells the church in Ephesus something intimate—Google Street View intimate. He says, ‘I know your works’ (Oida ta erga sou). Four words don’t seem like much, but in the Greek, it packs a punch.… Jesus chooses the Greek word oida, which expresses total, comprehensive knowledge. It is intimate knowledge that comes from being up close and personal. This knowledge isn’t hazy on the details. It doesn’t struggle to remember. It preserves the particulars. In the mind’s eye, everything is sharp and clear, like a well-taken photograph.” —Chris Palmer Letters from Jesus: Studies from the Seven Churches of Revelation explores Christ’s warnings to the seven most prominent churches in Asia Minor in the book of Revelation. These letters date back to 95 A.D., but they help us make a fascinating discovery about civilization: life hasn’t changed that much over the last two millennia. Author Chris Palmer illustrates the truths contained in the Letters from Jesus using modern, everyday examples. The host of the popular podcast Greek for the Week, he unpacks Greek words and phrases in these verses from Revelation with humor, joy, and biblical scholarship. Why study Greek, even just a little bit? As Chris explains, looking at the New Testament in the original language in which it was written can offer us some beautiful insights into God’s Word. “It’s like reading the Bible in high definition,” he says. Also, “studying God’s Word in the original language forces us to approach it with reverence and awe, humbling ourselves to obey what it says, whether it’s something we want to hear or not.”

This book was released on 2024-01-17 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea. —Revelation 1:11 Who were these churches? Who were these people? Who was saying this was to be done? Why did the Lord Jesus Christ want to send these churches a letter? What was happening in their lives that they needed to hear from Him? Come with me and let’s turn back the pages in time. This book will explore and survey the scriptures to find answers to these questions, as well as some other historical information. All scriptures are God-breathed and are useful for instruction, conviction, correction, and training in righteousness so that the man of God may be complete and fully equipped for every good work. I explore the connections the letters have to the culture and history of the people and the times they lived in. The letters were written to them, but the same letters are written for us. Let’s open the Word of God together and see what He has in store for us as we learn to walk in His way, growing in faith and strength as disciples equipped for every good work and word according to His purpose. The book will take the reader on a journey - a survey of the things that were, things that are, and the things to come - that John, the beloved disciple, recorded for us. Come with us on the journey through the pages of scripture and time. Who were our brethren from long ago, whom Jesus wrote to? How and why do these letters matter to us? Come and let us see what the Lord has in store for us.

Book excerpt: In the book of Revelation, God unveils the world as it really is, identifying an unseen spiritual war and announcing a very real day of judgment. We need to be convinced that Jesus is reigning as the risen King. We need to have him speak to the situation in our churches. We need to see how God will pulverize wickedness, obliterate those who oppose him, and set up his kingdom. Revelation has exactly what we need. Useful for personal study, as well as for preaching and teaching (Hamilton even includes helpful charts and tables to highlight key themes and literary elements), the thirty-seven sermons in this volume have a clear structure: introduction, body, and conclusion. Hamilton successfully grabs the reader's attention, raises awareness of a real need, and states the main point of the sermon text. In addition to explaining the meaning of each passage, Hamilton connects the main ideas to applicable analogies and actionable points. Revelation is a prophecy of epic proportions and Hamilton invites readers to love God and his people by expositing this revelation of Jesus, and to say along with the apostle John, "Come, Lord Jesus." Part of the Preaching the Word series.

Book An Examination of the Theme of Discipleship in The Seven Churches of Revelation

Download or read book An Examination of the Theme of Discipleship in The Seven Churches of Revelation written by Steve L. Roy and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-09-15 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Go and make disciples.” Our command is clear; our mission is given. But what exactly is a disciple and what does discipleship really mean? In An Examination of the Theme of Discipleship in the Seven Churches of Revelation, Dr. Steve Roy takes the reader to the book of Revelation and to the specific letters from Jesus Christ himself. These letters help the reader to discover dramatically important conclusions as to what discipleship is and what it means to be a disciple. Through each of the letters to the seven churches, Jesus follows a particular pattern of discipleship and applies it to the specific churches in western Asia Minor. These patterns and instructions are just as relevant for us today as they were when John the Revelator sent them. This book is written for the person who wants to take discipleship seriously and for the pastor who stands before his congregation weekly with the purpose of making disciples.
