Download or read book Redeeming Sociology written by Vern S. Poythress and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2011-05-04 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interpersonal relationships are possible for humans because we are created in the image of a Trinitarian God. But if the Trinity is our model for relationships, why is the human condition rife with pain and evil? How are we to think correctly about fallen human relationships and our models for understanding them? Redeeming Sociology advocates a biblically informed model for human relationships—relationships rooted in the Trinitarian character of God, his governance of the world, and his redemption accomplished in Christ. Poythress examines how the breaking of relationships through sin leads to strife, murder, and oppression among human beings and sets cultures against one another. And he shows how these broken relationships are restored through the outworking of redemption in Christ. Though typical sociological models for interpersonal relationships may offer some valuable insights, they are handicapped by a fundamental misunderstanding of humanity. The biblical model that Poythress presents correctly diagnoses the problem of human relationships, so it can likewise prescribe a biblical solution that infuses new meaning and power into how we relate to others made in the image of God.

Book A Corruption of Consequence

Download or read book A Corruption of Consequence written by Ronnie W. Rogers and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-02-23 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A grave danger lurks behind the seemingly friendly term of social justice. Contemporary social justice endangers our country, families, and, most importantly, the gospel of Jesus Christ. Social justice is, in many ways, a euphemism for cultural Marxism. What has made its threat even more treacherous is that cultural Marxism ideas have made their way into conservative evangelicalism and the Southern Baptist Convention. As long as Christians are led to believe that social justice is the same as God’s justice, Christians will be facilitators of godless Marxism. They will be instruments of corrupting the gospel of Jesus Christ. This book biblically critiques social justice and prepares Christians to stand for God’s impartial justice, truth, love, and the gospel.

Book excerpt: Gary Dorrien's major work addresses the roots of and remedy to the current crisis in American Christian social ethics.Focusing on the story of American liberal Protestantism, the book examines in fascinating depth the three major movements in this century ? the Social Gospel, Christian Realism, and Liberation Theology ? in a way that also brings African American, feminist, environmentalist, Catholic, and other voices into the increasingly multicultural quest.Dorrien then carefully assesses the crisis of social Christian thought in a culture that is increasingly secular, materialistic, and dominated by capitalism. He shows how the progressive Christian vision of social and economic democracy can be redeemed in the face of its apparent defeat. He argues strongly for a social Christianity faithful to the spiritual reality and kingdom-oriented ethic of the way of Christ.Dorrien's engaging narrative, knowledgeable and fair analysis, and thoughtful proposal bring desperately needed clarity and commitment to the Christian social conscience.

Download or read book Hidden Threads written by Russell Heddendorf and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2010 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Hidden Threads: A Christian Critique of Sociological Theory, provides a framework for making sense of the social world. Heddendorf finds in sociological theories some "hidden threads" - Christian principles woven into the fabric of society. Early Christian thought was radical in its approach to social life. Jesus provided a different concept of the person, and encouraged his followers to act upon this new understanding. Thus, in the early centuries after Christ, Christian social thought was a dynamic, positive, social force, but today the situation differs. Many Christians readily accept current interpretations of problems as valid. Consequently, in response to these modern explanations, Christians develop a form of secularized thought which supports popular solutions and fails to critically engage with the real issues of the day. Hidden Threads is an examination and Christian critique of sociological theory, demonstrating appreciation for the richness of social life and holding in tension those theories that attempt to explain it." --Book Jacket.
