Book excerpt: This book deals with both geneticdisorders related to abnormal haemoglobin specially sickle cell anaemia and G6PDenzyme deficiency and demographic variables prevalent among the Thoti Tribe. TheThoti is a primitive tribal population inhabiting the Adilabad district ofAndhra Pradesh. This tribe was recognized as primitive tribal population byGovernment of India in 1983. The total population comprises 3654 persons inAndhra Pradesh and 49.04% of them reside in the Adilabad district alone (1991census). Studies have reported that the change in fertility, mortality and agedistribution, as well as childbearing age would directly affect the rate atwhich genetic or genetically related diseases are expressed in a population. Thus in this book an attempt was made to define the demo-geneticpattern, with a view to relate their genetic diversity to their disease anddemographic profile among this tribal population.

Book excerpt: This volume offers an insight into the socio-economic profile of tribes in the states of Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. It looks into the various facets of the way of living of the tribes dwelling in these states. The effectiveness of tribal development projects in both the states have been analysed on several parameters including Work Participation Rate, literacy, housing and access to portable water, incidence of diseases and nature of employment, etc. It is commendable that Gujarat has fared better in terms of tribal development as a result of constant efforts of the state as well as central government policies. On the other hand Andhra Pradesh still lags far behind in the race. With the active participation of government, people and civil societies we dream of a new dawn for tribal people where they can march from Gloom to Glory with dignity.

Book Art and Culture of Marginalised Nomadic Tribes in Andhra Pradesh

Download or read book Art and Culture of Marginalised Nomadic Tribes in Andhra Pradesh written by P. Sadanandam and published by Gyan Publishing House. This book was released on 2008 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: India is rich in its oral tradition. Its antiquity defies historical inquiry. Indian folklore offers diversity in the forms of expression while retaining the unity of theme, i.e. Dharma., The forms may be changing periodically to suit the times. The purpose of these popular art forms has been the same in a way as the classical arts. They provide education through entertainment. Andhra Desa, comprising roughly the present state of Andhra Pradesh, is very significant in its folk tradition in variety of forms. Numerous producing and service castes so far maintained their own sub castes of bards to retain their collective memory of the community and family histories besides propagating the Puranic knowledge and stories from great epics. The dependent sub-castes who have been so far preserving these arts and ancient knowledge are speedily disappearing due to lack of patronage and changing life-style. In this context, this book, the result of a painstaking research involving lot of field work may serve as a tribute to those unselfish barefoot narrators and preservers of history of bygone ages.
