Download or read book Colour Chemistry written by R. L. Allen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Students embarking upon a colour chemistry course usually approach it by way of a general introduction and proceed to more detailed treatment of the subject when they have acquired some knowledge of its character and scope. This book has been written with the twofold purpose of serving as a guide to such students during the introductory part of their course and of supplying the needs in this field of others whose main interest is in a related branch of technology or pure chemistry. An attempt has been made to present the main features of the subject in an easily assimilable form. The great amount of published information renders the choice of material for a short book somewhat difficult, and I am keenly conscious of topics that might be thought worthy of more extensive treatment. However, a concise account cannot be comprehensive, and suggestions for further reading are provided at the end of the book. The chemistry of colouring matters can be regarded as a branch of pure chemistry, but the development of knowledge in this field has followed a course determined chiefly by the applications of dyes and pigments. It has therefore appeared appropriate to treat the subject here as a branch of technology.
Download or read book Phenazines Volume 11 written by G. A. Swan and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-09-15 with total page 718 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds, since its inception, has been recognized as a cornerstone of heterocyclic chemistry. Each volume attempts to discuss all aspects – properties, synthesis, reactions, physiological and industrial significance – of a specific ring system. To keep the series up-to-date, supplementary volumes covering the recent literature on each individual ring system have been published. Many ring systems (such as pyridines and oxazoles) are treated in distinct books, each consisting of separate volumes or parts dealing with different individual topics. With all authors are recognized authorities, the Chemistry of Heterocyclic Chemistry is considered worldwide as the indispensable resource for organic, bioorganic, and medicinal chemists.
Download or read book Investigation of Tetralin Explosion written by J. S. McDonald and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was conducted to determine the cause of an explosion which occurred August 16, 1959, in the sodium laboratory at the Atomics International Division's Santa Susana facility. The explosion occurred in apparatus used for a natural-convection heat-transfer experiment with sodium. During the course of the experiment, cooling was provided to the heat sink by circulating tetraphydronaphthalene (tetralin). At the conclusion of the work, tetralin was allowed to remain stagnant in the cooling section over a period of several months. The autooxidation of tetralin to the hydroperoxide is postulated, the explosion resulting from the rapid decomposition of this compound. The condition and circumstances initiating the decomposition are unknown.
Download or read book Handbook of Chemical Technology and Pollution Control written by Martin B. B. Hocking and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 808 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of Chemical Technology and Pollution Control integrates industrial chemistry with pollution control and environmental chemistry. This unified approach provides practicing professionals and consultants with a concise yet authoritative handbook covering the Key Features, relative importance, and environmental impact of currently operating chemical processes. It also meets the critical needs of students training for industrial careers.Handbook of Chemical Technology and Pollution Control considers community, municipal, power generation, industrial, and transportation components of environmental impact. The book covers the major inorganic and organic commodity chemicals; aluminum, iron and steel, and copper prodution; pulp and paper; fermentation; petroleum production and refining. It also includes key topics and process details for major peterochemicals and large-scale consumer and engineering polymers. This single, convenient volume describes aspects of recycling at the industrial and post-consumer levels, and emphasizes a quantitative approach as used in the author's well-known lifecycle work with disposable and reusable cups.0-12-350811-8Key Features* Covers historical background and new developments in a single, authoritative handbook* Presents integrated treatment of chemical technology with emission control chemistry* Includes tables throughout that give current and trend data* Considers community, municipal, power generation, industrial, and transportation components of environmental impact* Provides many references to further reading* Contains review questions that offer working experience with the information and concepts
Download or read book Pioneers in Polymer Science written by F.B. Seymour and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because of a lack of appreciation for his efforts in developing modern polymer science, the contributions of Hermann Staudinger were disregarded for decades. There have also been delays in recognizing the contributions of other pioneers in polymer science. Hence, it is gratifying to note that Professor Seymour chaired an American Chemical Society Symposium focusing on the contributions of these pioneers and that Kluwer Academic Publishers has published the proceedings of this important symposium. H.Mark v DEDICATION This book on Pioneers in Polymer Science is dedicated to Nobel Laureate Polymer Scientists Hermann Staudinger, Emil Fischer, Herman Mark, Paul J. Flory, Linus Pauling, Carl S. Marvel, M. Polanyi, Giulio Natta, Karl Ziegler, and Bruce Merrifield as well as to those pioneers such as J.C. Patrick, Robert Thomas, William Sparks, Maurice Huggins, Qtto Bayer, Leo Baekeland, Anselm Payer, Roger Boyer, Waldo Semon, Robert Banks, J.P. Hogan, and other pioneers who, to a large degree, were responsible for the development of the world's second largest industry. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT The editor appreciates the contribution of co-authors Herman Mark, C.H. Fisher, and G. Alan Stahl who co chaired the Symposium on Pioneers in Polymer Science at the National Meeting of the American Chemical Society at Seattle, WA in 1984 and who contributed a chapter in this book. The editor is particularly grateful to Mischa Thomas who typed this manuscript.
