Book Roots of Thomas Rogers Mayflower Pilgrim

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Roots of Thomas Rogers: Mayflower Pilgrim" is a history book that looks at the lives of Pilgrim Thomas Rogers and his family before they left England. New documents are presented that have not been reviewed before. Hand-written parchment rolls of the Watford manor court were discovered that reveal glimpses of the Roger's family before they left for Leiden, Holland. William Rogers was often voted village constable. We learn how many horses he owned. We learn he had a servant. We learn all kinds of previously unknown facts. In a search of probate records, the author's research team also uncovered that Thomas Rogers had a previously unknown step-father. Items left in his will to his step-son, Thomas, shed new light on the family's living conditions... A search of Bishop's records revealed a story about a Watford Separatist vicar who preached to the family in St. Peter and St. Paul's church. The document offers some new insight into the Separatist influence in Watford¿ We learn of a visit by King James I to Althorp manor, just a few miles from Watford. Another document revealed that Lord Spencer of Althorp was William Rogers' landlord in Watford. A family connection to Lady Diana Spencer is discussed. The impact of the attack by the Spanish Armada is explored using the resource of detailed letters between the Queen's council and Watford landowner, Sir Richard Knightly of nearby Fawsley. We learn from the manor court rolls that the Watford villagers practiced with their longbows every Sunday. Some of the villagers were part of the Militia who defended the country. We learn about the Watford soldiers in London, awaiting the Spanish attack. The "Martin Marprelate" scandal is reviewed in local context¿ There is even a local connection to the "Gunpowder Plot" against the Crown. This is a very limited-edition volume. 760.749.3808.
