Download or read book The Little Book of the 1960s written by Dee Gordon and published by The History Press. This book was released on 2011-11-30 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on quirky facts and fascinating data, with a discerning eye on the bizarre, the frivolous and the funny, The Little Book of the 1960s is nostalgia with a difference. The sights, the sounds, the lifestyle, the whole 1960s experience can be relived through the pages of this book, but be warned – you'll need a sense of humour. It's a book that can be dipped in to time and time again to reveal something new about the people, the fashions, the scandals and the enduring fascination of a decade that was truly the most colourful of all. Did You Know? When the Beatles played at the Birkenhead YMCA in 1962 for just £30 (the same year Decca famously turned them down because 'groups with guitars were on their way out'), they were booed off stage. When Barbara Windsor and the cast of Sparrers Can't Sing were filming in the East End in the early 1960s, the Krays were hired to provide security on the set. When Princess Margaret married photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones in May 1960, she became the first royal to marry a commoner for 450 years.

Book excerpt: The history of the dental program at Western University is a spirited and gritty story of grand visions, strong personalities, and contentious leadership. Focusing on the years from 1965 to 2015, Transforming Dentistry highlights Western University’s ambitious plans to create and situate a dental program within a health sciences complex; the practical challenges involved in implementing a curriculum and populating a new school; the influence of key dental faculty, community dentists, and students in shaping the program; and the school’s near closure during the 1990s. David J. Kenny and Shelley McKellar detail how and why the training of dentists was transformed by science, technology, and individual educators. The book focuses on the unique aspects of Western’s dental program and compares it with the programs offered at nine other Canadian schools. Today, the strong reputation of Western dentistry is a direct result of the ambitious visions, professional commitment, and steadfast leadership employed by London dentists and university educators over more than five decades.

Book Dallas 50 Years On The Murder of John F Kennedy

Download or read book Dallas 50 Years On The Murder of John F Kennedy written by Blaine Taylor and published by Fonthill Media. This book was released on 2014-03-27 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: JFK had won the Presidency in 1960 by a razor thin majority, and his re-election campaign for 1964 was expected to be as close. He began it in November 1963 with a kick-off multi-city, four-day swing across the important state of Texas. It was going unexpectedly well when shots were fired into his triumphant motorcade in downtown Dallas that ripped history apart, changing it forever The assassination of American President John F. Kennedy in 1963 came at the very height of both the Cold War following the Second World War and the Pax Americana that was thought to exist at the war's conclusion in 1945. The United States and its allies possessed a far greater number of nuclear weapons than their Soviet adversaries, but the latter could unleash World War 3 and a nuclear Armageddon that would destroy them all. The sudden and totally unexpected murder in broad daylight in an American city of one of the most popular presidents in history was the murder mystery of the 20th century. The Cold War could have become hot and nuclear within minutes. The murderer had to be found and vital questions had to be answered quickly. Who did it, why and who ordered Kennedy's assassination? Was the deed part of a conspiracy: foreign, domestic or both? Were none of the these questions part of the bloody puzzle and was it entirely possible that only one man was responsible? The questions remain to this very day and Dallas Fifty Years On: The Murder of John F. Kennedy reveals sensational new evidence, eyewitness accounts and top secret documentation.
