Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first Dutch settlers arrived in the area that would become Franklin Lakes in the 1600s and soon developed a strong agricultural community as a part of Franklin Township. Communities were developed around Crystal Lake and Campgaw, and by the late 1860s, a new railroad would bring further development to the growing community. Prominent families such as the Ackermans, Demarests, Pulises, Storms, and Zabriskies were leaders in the area, and their marks on the landscape of the town are evident today in the surviving homes, road names, and descendants. After Franklin Lakes became an independent municipality in 1922, new housing developments, businesses, and amenities were created. The community continues to grow and improve while retaining strong ties to its history.

Book Meant to Be

Download or read book Meant to Be written by Lauren Pizza and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2014-05-06 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Lauren Pizza was thirteen, she died. Caught under a small sailboat, she struggled to reach the surface, only to find that what she thought was up was actually down . . . and that’s all she remembers. Ever since being resuscitated by two strangers, Pizza has felt a presence in her life from the spirit world. Is it crazy? Maybe. Her family sure thinks so. Growing up the youngest, and sometimes forgotten, of five in Little Falls, New Jersey, Pizza continues to live the typical life “down the shore” after her accident. She survives high school (barely), goes to college in Dayton, Ohio (which she might have thought was in Florida when she applied), and is ready to settle down with her “perfect” Kennedy-esque boyfriend in Jersey—until she wakes up. Suddenly free and single, Pizza relies on intuition (and perhaps a few signs) and finds herself a job in the city, a grungy apartment in the West Village, and waits for Prince Charming. When he finally arrives, she doesn’t recognize him: he drives a red Ferrari, sure, but he has hair like Howard Stern and wears more gold chains than Mr. T. Meant to Be is the story of a blue-collar Jersey girl swept off her feet by an unconventional millionaire, thrust into an entirely new world, where she makes plenty of mistakes and sometimes feels like “I’m from the Jersey Shore” is stapled to her forehead. With humor, gratitude, and trademark Jersey spunk, Lauren tells it like it is: the highs, the lows, the bad twists, the good advice from unlikely places, and the times she wished she could disappear. Underneath the designer clothes and private jets, she’s still the same Jersey Girl who took the D train and lived on Snapple. And she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Book Wyckoff

    Book Details:
  • Author : David R. Brown
  • Publisher : Arcadia Publishing
  • Release : 2002-12-01
  • ISBN : 9780738511412
  • Pages : 134 pages

Download or read book Wyckoff written by David R. Brown and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2002-12-01 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1770, the first Wyckoff settlers were deeded land in what was to become Franklin Township. Spawning several other towns, such as Ramsey, Ho-Ho-Kus, Oakland, and Franklin Lakes, Franklin Township was renamed Wyckoff in 1926. Wyckoff has evolved from its early rural Dutch heritage to a thriving community. Today, Wyckoff is a blend of old and new, and a strong sense of history persists in the area. With views of historic stone houses, early businesses, and community activities and festivities, Wyckoff creates a sense of what nineteenth- and twentieth-century life was like in the township. From its idyllic rural origins to the buildup of small-town commerce and today's modern suburb, Wyckoff and its hidden history are revealed through the vintage photographs included in this volume. Early settlers with names like Quackenbush, Terhune, Van Houten, Ackerman, Pulis, and Van Blarcom still have descendants living here. Longtime residents will remember local landmarks such as Appert Field, Turtle Pond, Harned's Store, Zabriskie Field, and Lemmerman Farm. Evidenced by the many houses of worship, volunteer organizations, and long-running celebrations like the Memorial Day parade, Wyckoff has maintained its rustic charm and community pride while growing into a popular northern New Jersey locale.

Book The Outsmarting of Criminals

Download or read book The Outsmarting of Criminals written by Steven A. Rigolosi and published by Miss Felicity Prim. This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meet Miss Felicity Prim: lifelong resident of Manhattan, book lover, outsmarter of criminals, unrepentant critic of the Internet, and proud owner of a Laser Taser 3000 (though she has vowed never to use it, unless absolutely necessary). After being mugged, Miss Prim decides to leave the big city and purchase a home in the country, where she will be safe from the dangerous criminals who call New York home. A devoted reader of crime fiction, Miss Prim believes that her reading of detective novels has given her all the skills she needs to become an amateur sleuth in her new home base of Greenfield, Connecticut. Miss Prim gets the chance to prove her mettle when she finds a corpse in her basement. As Miss Prim searches for the victim's identity and killer, she finds her father's old journals, which create a crisis in her close-knit family. Meanwhile, Miss Prim's young friend, Dolly, has become involved in a dangerous situation and needs Miss Prim's help. As Miss Prim investigates (with her trusty Boxer, Bruno, at her side), she begins to suspect that someone in Greenfield is watching her every move, waiting for the right moment to strike. Will Miss Prim, with her insightsinto human behavior and her steadfast refusal to rely on forensic techniques (which she considers the crutches of lazy investigators), be able to save herself and bring everything to a satisfactory resolution? Filled with lovable characters and wry humor, The Outsmarting of Criminals is not only a delightful mystery novel but also a celebration of books and an homage to the mystery genre.
