Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: That sudden yearning you feel when you see a sunset. That pang of longing you sense deep in your bones when you attend a funeral or even gaze at a poignant piece of art. Those experiences that sting you to attention in moments of beauty, peace, or sorrow—the ones you can sense are offering you a twinkling, piercing hint of heaven: Are these meant to do more than point you to eternity? What if they could enable you to live more fully on the way there? Through personal reflections, evocative stories, and profound writing, author Amy Baik Lee offers This Homeward Ache, inviting you to remember the times you've been deeply moved by a glimpse, a spark, of something you know is beyond the visible present—moments that other cultures and times have called Sehnsucht, saudade, hiraeth, or galmang. In each spellbinding chapter, Amy traces her own brushes with this longing, unfolding her discovery that it is designed to enrich and alter every area of our lives: our valleys of pain, our relationships with other people, and ultimately our reception of the love of God. If you’ve ever wondered how to keep going in this world while holding on to the hope of the world to come, This Homeward Ache offers you courage, companionship, and a stirring sense of the scope of our journey home to Christ.

Book Delphi Complete Poetical Works of The Confederation Poets Illustrated

Download or read book Delphi Complete Poetical Works of The Confederation Poets Illustrated written by Charles G. D. Roberts and published by Delphi Classics. This book was released on 2019-01-08 with total page 4547 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Confederation Poets were a group of Canadian English-language poets of the late nineteenth century whose work expressed the national consciousness inspired by the Confederation of 1867. Their transcendental and romantic praise of the Canadian landscape would go on to dominate Canadian poetry until the twentieth century. They were also called the Maple Tree School due to how their verses portrayed a touching love for the Canadian landscape. The term ‘Confederation Poets’ was coined by the Canadian professor and literary critic Malcolm Ross, who singled out four poets: Charles G. D. Roberts (1860–1943); Bliss Carman (1861–1929); Archibald Lampman (1861–1899); and Duncan Campbell Scott (1862–1947). They composed poems in a classic form, often on themes of love or philosophical speculation against the backdrop of nature; and they all reacted to Canada’s growing industrialisation, favouring a retreat to the as yet unspoiled wilderness. This comprehensive volume of the Delphi Poets Series presents the complete poetical works of the four principal members of the Confederation Poets, with numerous illustrations and the usual Delphi bonus material. Book Christ s Object Lessons Illustrated

Download or read book Christ s Object Lessons Illustrated written by Ellen G. White and published by Digital Inspiration. This book was released on 2013-02-05 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heritage Edition—Over 100 illustrations of a century ago. Unabridged, original text consisting of inspiring and profound lessons from the stories and parables which Jesus told. Christ the Great Teacher gave much of His instruction as He walked with His disciples through the hills and valleys of Palestine or rested by the lake or river. In His parable teaching He linked divine truth with common things and incidents, as may be found in the experiences of the shepherd, the builder, the tiller of the soil, the traveler, and the homemaker. Familiar objects were associated with thoughts true and beautiful—thoughts of God’s loving interest in us, of the grateful homage that is His due, and of the care we should have one for another. Thus lessons of divine wisdom and practical truth were made forcible and impressive. The Scripture says, “All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; . . . that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.” Matt. 13:34, 35. Natural things were the medium for the spiritual; the things of nature and the life-experience of His hearers were connected with the truths of the written word. Leading thus from the natural to the spiritual kingdom, Christ’s parables are links in the chain of truth that unites man with God, and earth with heaven. In this volume the parables are grouped according to their subjects, and their lessons are developed and illustrated. The book is full of gems of truth, and to many readers it will give a richer meaning to the common surroundings of everyday life.
