Book excerpt: Through the process of self-analysis and self-compassion, it is possible to heal years of compounded trauma and ‘baggage’. It is a natural process to respond to traumas by storing emotional baggage by repressing hurtful memories. It is normal to expect the worst in an effort to self-preserve. This negative expectation leads to long-term faulty thinking; and eventually subconscious self-destruction through learned helplessness. Niqqi has spent a decade studying trauma and its effects. There is no escaping trauma through denial. When we attempt to do so, we bury them and give them control over our minds, bodies, souls, and hearts. Niqqi lived for years as a survivor of compounded trauma - in denial. She viewed herself as successful. Her favorite line was: “I don’t look like what I’ve been through!” She had no idea she looked exactly like what she had been through – internally. She began to take analysis of herself. She learned that her past traumas were buried inside of her psyche, controlling every aspect of her life. Her family lived in extreme poverty when she was young. She was kidnapped at the age of ten. She experienced physical and mental abuse, as well as neglect, throughout her childhood. She married an abusive man who held her hostage for hours and attempted to take her life. Through self-awareness and self-compassion, she learned how to face trauma head-on in an effort to minimize its effects. In order to conquer trauma we have to go through it; not over it, not around it, and not under it – but straight through it. Niqqi no longer views herself as a victim who survived and became a survivor. She is a Thrive-or! Through self-analysis and self-compassion, learn how to minimize and eliminate baggage by discovering The I of YOU!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jerry Lawler is hailed as one of sports-entertainment's most enduring and colorful characters. His life has been filled with hilarious, never-been-told stories...until now! His reign consists of thirteen championships (one of which he's held more than forty times), three marriages, and two children. He's dominated Memphis radio and television airwaves. Starred in feature films. Recorded albums. Tolerated countless sprains, broken bones, concussions, and contusions. The way Jerry "The King" Lawler tells it, if you're good at something, do it more than once. It's Good To Be The King...Sometimes is a no-holds-barred personal account from the "puppies"-pantin' King of one-liners, who steps out from behind the announcer's desk of WWE Raw to hold court about everything. His passion for art that first drew him to the ring of a rundown West Memphis movie theater over thirty years ago. The comic adventures and tragic bumps endured journeying down the "Music Highway" of Interstate 40 with the National Wrestling Alliance. Earning his royal personage in the Bluff City of the Mighty Mississippi against his own mentor, "Fabulous" Jackie Fargo. Grappling with mat legends Ric Flair, Lou Thesz, Jesse Ventura, Andre the Giant, Terry Funk, and Bret "Hitman" Hart. And his crowning achievements as co-ruler of the United States Wrestling Association, which contributed to the rise of future WWE Superstars Hulk Hogan, Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and The Rock. It's time you lackeys pay heed as the King reveals the schemes and outrageous storylines to many of wrestling's most fantastic theatrics and all-too-real moments. Lawler tells of his legendary "feud" with Andy Kaufman, and his much-publicized confrontation with the actor portraying the late comedian on the set of Man on the Moon, and the "Karate-versus-Wrestling" match that almost occurred between Lawler and Memphis's other King. And be sure to honor his royal proclamations regarding former wives, and his mother's opinion of wrestling; why he once sued future boss Vince McMahon...and won; and the body part he truly worships on a WWE Diva.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Danielle is a shy, sheltered, teenage girl from a conservative, middle American family. She’s fresh from high school, with dreams of maybe becoming an actor or model, rather than stocking shelves, working in a factory, or becoming a nursing assistant as her mom and dad dictate. Jessica is a highly successful woman of the world who’s heading for the big four-oh. She’s college educated, owns homes, businesses, and buildings, traveling around the world doing work in the motion picture industry. She knows exactly who she is, and that includes being a girl who likes girls, not guys. At one point she had a girl in every port, but these days they’ve all run off to find their own place in the world or live with that “special someone” who Jessica has never desired or discovered. Danielle was raised on fairy tales, with Prince Charming and the big, white wedding where she’s made a princess and lives happily ever after. That is until a few bad experiences with guys in high school show her the true nature of boys and that Prince Charming could easily turn out to be an ogre. Now she doesn’t know which end is up, but she still has her dreams of maybe acting or modeling, since being someone’s princess looks like something that is never going to happen. When an opportunity to travel to Los Angeles to visit her Aunt and Uncle presents itself, Danielle jumps at it, as her Aunt works for all the studios in Hollywood. Since Danielle did well in drama in high school, she decides to see if she can turn some of her dreams into reality with this trip. One fine summer day finds Danielle and Jessica standing on the same studio set. Jessica takes one look at Danielle and is instantly smitten, that is until she finds out how young this girl really is, and that she’s related to a woman she works with on a regular basis. Jessica does, however, offer to help Danielle get started. Danielle decides to seek out Jessica’s assistance. Together they take on the world, making Danielle’s career actually take off. At the same time, Jessica’s feelings for this beautiful, sexy, young girl grows and grows, as they go forth in the world platonically working together, until things come crashing to a meeting of the minds… Can Jessica win Danielle over without scaring her away, and is that the right thing to do? Will their differences break them apart or pull them together? Will each of them make their dreams and desires a reality, allowing them to live happily ever after?

Book The Boarding School Girls

Download or read book The Boarding School Girls written by Soosan Latham and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-06 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: They were children. Put on a train in a strange land, they waved goodbye to a parent as they headed to an educational institution that, unbeknownst to them, was to become their new home. Separated from their loving families, they strived to meet the expectations of the grownups and, in some cases, to rebel against them. Now, independent women, compassionate mothers, and astute professionals, they look back on their youth in the 1960’s and 1970’s to make sense of why they were sent away, and to give meaning to the sources that have sustained them over the years. Ex-boarders themselves, Latham and Ferdows provide vivid and emotionally embodied narratives of everyday lives of The Boarding School Girls. This unique collection of stories explores key issues of identity and lifespan development to seek understanding of the influence of national, religious and family culture on development within two conflicting sets of cultural values. Combining unique qualitative data with illuminating tales of resilience and accomplishment in what is likely to simultaneously inform and inspire readers with feelings of joy and sadness, love and hate, abandonment and hope, but mainly trust and forgiveness. The stories of eleven ‘little rich’ Persian girls are a nostalgic reminder of their past cross-cultural ordeals, a pragmatic perspective on psychological implications of boarding school education in England, and a celebration of the possibilities of the future. The Boarding School Girls is valuable reading for students in cultural, developmental and educational psychology and the humanities, as well as clinical psychologists and educators looking at the impact of boarding school on adolescent development.
