Book 99 Things Brides Wish They Knew Before Planning Their Wedding

Download or read book 99 Things Brides Wish They Knew Before Planning Their Wedding written by Pamela Archer and published by Ginger Marks. This book was released on 2010-10 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's no wonder I love weddings so much, and no accident that I became a wedding and event designer. I grew up surrounded by them. My father was a Baptist minister, so he officiated at many weddings. Mother was a caterer, so she would bake the cake, make the punch and mints, and open a can of nuts. That was all that anyone served back in the day. No one in our neck of the woods had ever heard of a sit-down dinner, much less been to one. We often had weddings in our home. We were a one-stop wedding shop! We would arrange chairs in the living room, and Mother would decorate the brass candelabra with ivy. I helped, along with my sisters, Donna, Jeaneane, and Suzanne. Donna and Jeaneane would play the piano and organ, and Suzanne and I would light the candles. Mother would sing. I loved to hear Mother's beautiful, melodic, soprano voice as she sang songs like "O Promise Me" and "The Lord's Prayer." Her voice was so clear that she sounded like an angel. One of my favourite memories is hearing her sing around the house. She was always singing while she worked. I learned a whole repertoire of songs from her housework concerts. "Wedding Bells Are Breaking up That Old Gang of Mine" was one of her favourites. Mostly, she sang hymns and songs about how much God loves us.

Book The Writing of Weddings in Middle Period China

Download or read book The Writing of Weddings in Middle Period China written by Christian de Pee and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Approaching writing as a form of cultural practice and understanding text as an historical object, this book not only recovers elements of the ritual practice of Middle-Period weddings, but also reassesses the relationship between texts and the Middle-Period past. Its fourfold narrative of the writing of weddings and its spirited engagement with the texts—ritual manuals, engagement letters, nuptial songs, calendars and almanacs, and legal texts—offer a form and style for a cultural history that accommodates the particularities of the sources of the Chinese imperial past.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Marriage Act 1836 established the foundations of modern marriage law, allowing couples to marry in register offices and non-Anglican places of worship for the first time. Rebecca Probert draws on an exceptionally wide range of primary sources to provide the first detailed examination of marriage legislation, social practice, and their mutual interplay, from 1836 through to the unanticipated demands of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. She analyses how and why the law has evolved, closely interrogating the parliamentary and societal debates behind legislation. She demonstrates how people have chosen to marry and how those choices have changed, and evaluates how far the law has been help or hindrance in enabling couples to marry in ways that reflect their beliefs, be they religious or secular. In an era of individual choice and multiculturalism, Tying the Knot sign posts possible ways in which future legislators might avoid the pitfalls of the past.

Book Peter Joseph Triest

    Book Details:
  • Author : Bro. René Stockman
  • Publisher : Gompel&Svacina
  • Release : 2020-02-10
  • ISBN : 946371183X
  • Pages : 177 pages

Download or read book Peter Joseph Triest written by Bro. René Stockman and published by Gompel&Svacina. This book was released on 2020-02-10 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several biographies have already been written about Peter Joseph Triest. The first one was published a year after his death, and since then several brothers and sisters of the congregations he founded have portrayed Triest’s life and charism. For the process of beatification, which has entered the Roman phase, a new biography had to be compiled on the basis of thorough research of sources. It became the ‘official’ biography of Peter Joseph Triest, now being made available to the general public in several languages. God’s love was the driving force in his life and the source from which he radiated love to his neighbours, especially to those who lived on the fringes of society due to illness or poverty. It is this divine love that brought him to the periphery of existence, and others were inspired by him to go the same way of charity, even to this very day.

Book Capricious Borders

Download or read book Capricious Borders written by Olga Demetriou and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2013-04-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Borders of states, borders of citizenship, borders of exclusion. As the lines drawn on international treaty maps become ditches in the ground and roaming barriers in the air, a complex state apparatus is set up to regulate the lives of those who cannot be expelled, yet who have never been properly ‘rooted’. This study explores the mechanisms employed at the interstices of two opposing views on the presence of minority populations in western Thrace: the legalization of their status as établis (established) and the failure to incorporate the minority in the Greek national imaginary. Revealing the logic of government bureaucracy shows how they replicate difference from the inter-state level to the communal and the personal.

Book Waiting at the Prison Gate

Download or read book Waiting at the Prison Gate written by Judith Pallott and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2016-11-29 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Russian Federation has one of the largest prison populations in the world. Women in particular are profoundly affected by the imprisonment of a family member. Families and Punishment in Russia details the experiences of these women-be they wives, mothers, girlfriends, daughters-who, as relatives of Russia's three-quarters of a million prisoners, are the "invisible victims" of the country's harsh penal policy. A pioneering work that offers a unique lens through which various aspects of life in twenty-first century Russia can be observed: the workings of criminal sub-cultures; societal attitudes to parenthood, marriage and marital fidelity; young women's quests for a husband; nostalgia for the Soviet period; state strategies towards dealing with political opponents; and the social construction of gender roles.
