Download or read book Thirteen Secret Knock Out Blows written by S. J. Jorgensen and published by Loose Cannon. This book was released on 1929-01-02 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This mini-booklet is a reproduction of a promotional advertising brochure for S.J. Jorgensen's full book "American Police Jiu-Jitsu". Dating from the early 1930's it presents a few tastes of the full book via snippets, images and tons of glowing customer testimonials. Students of classic Ju-jitsu texts and early martial arts manuals will enjoy this unique little gem of historical interest. While the useful content presented is rather minimal, it is a great look at the style of techniques of the era; both defensive and mail-order promotions of selling martial arts knowledge. Truly harkens back to an older age, but one in which the Gangster-era of organized crime and hoodlums made average everyday citizens of big cities afraid of crime in a way not unlike the current times. Be sure to check out our other titles of vintage martial arts classics too, like: Police Jiu-jitsu, American Judo, and Judo Self-Taught. Book Hidden Weapons

  • Author : Basil Collier
  • Publisher : Pen and Sword
  • Release : 2006-03-01
  • ISBN : 1473814928
  • Pages : 569 pages

Download or read book Hidden Weapons written by Basil Collier and published by Pen and Sword. This book was released on 2006-03-01 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his Foreword, Professor Jones writes 'Mr Collier takes the opportunity to review the contributions of all forms of Intelligence, and the use and misuse that was made of them, in all the major phases of World War II. His task has required very wide reading of the great volume of original documents and derivative literature now available, and I admire the judgement that is evident throughout the book. Within the limits of treating the widest aspects of Intelligence in World War II in a small compass, Mr Collier has told the whole truth, fortunately without it turning out to be very unfavorable; and in the lessons to be drawn from it we indeed have one element of security if properly applied'.Basil Collier throws fresh light on the low priority given to Intelligence between the wars; the tendency of ministers and senior officials to rely less on intelligence reports than their own individual hunches; the failure to foresee the invasion of Norway; why, even with the aid of Enigma it was impossible to turn the scales in Crete, and why the Americans, though privy to some of Japans most closely guarded secrets, allowed the Pearl Harbor attack to take them by surprise.

Book Thirty Six Secret Knock Out Blows Without the Use of Fists

Download or read book Thirty Six Secret Knock Out Blows Without the Use of Fists written by S. J. Jorgensen and published by Budoworks. This book was released on 2022-11-14 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1926, Seattle Police Patrolman S. J. Jorgensen was a nationally-known pistol champ and Jiu-Jitsu instructor. In 1938, he published Thirty-Six Secret Knock-Out Blows without the use of Fists which is partially based on the Danzan Ryū style of Ju Jitsu founded by Seishiro Okazaki. The booklet is filled with images showing knock-outs, headlock breaks, and other self-defense techniques. Svend Jens "Jorgy" Jorgensen (1890-1974) was born in Denmark and came to Seattle in 1910. He joined the SPD in 1919, and began learning Jiu-Jitsu and Judo in 1921 when three fellow police officers, untrained in disarming techniques, were killed by a gunman. Mr. Jorgensen retired from the SPD in 1951, then worked a further eight years as a King County deputy sheriff. Although he held 127 sharpshooting medals, Mr. Jorgensen was proud of having arrested more than 200 criminals without ever firing a shot.

Book John L Sullivan

Download or read book John L Sullivan written by Adam J. Pollack and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-02-28 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essentially the last of the bare-knuckle heavyweight champions, John L. Sullivan was instrumental in the acceptance of gloved fighting. His charisma and popular appeal during this transitional period contributed greatly to making boxing a nationally popular, "legitimate" sport. Sullivan became boxing's first superstar and arguably the first of any sport. From his first match in the late 1870s through his final championship fight in 1892, this biography contains a thoroughly researched, detailed accounting of John L. Sullivan's boxing career. With special attention to the 1880s, the decade during which Sullivan came to prominence, it follows Sullivan's skill development and discusses his opponents and fights in detail, providing various viewpoints of a single event. Beginning with a discussion of early boxing practices, the sport itself is placed within sociological, legal and historical contexts including anti-prize fighting laws and the so-called "color line." A complete record of Sullivan's career is also included.

Book Studies in the Economic History of Southern Africa

Download or read book Studies in the Economic History of Southern Africa written by Z.A. Konczacki and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-01-14 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 1990. Volume Two of Studies of Economic History of South Africa, looks at the Lesotho and Swaziland regions. The unfolding history and historiography of Southern Africa pose profound challenges for both analysis and praxis in the last decade of the twentieth century. These challenges are reflected in the range of investigations and contradictions, some of which are treated here, which together constitute an intellectual and political conjuncture. This collection of studies deals with the countries which were not included in the companion book on the economic history of the Front- Line States. Most of the space in the present volume is devoted to South Africa, primarily because of its importance to the region but also because contributions to the economic history of that country in English are very extensive as compared to the other states of Southern Africa.

Book The Battle of Britain on Screen

Download or read book The Battle of Britain on Screen written by S. P. MacKenzie and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2016-01-28 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new, updated edition of The Battle of Britain on Screen examines in depth the origins, development and reception of the major dramatic screen representations of 'The Few' in the Battle of Britain produced over the past 75 years. Paul MacKenzie explores both continuity and change in the presentation of a wartime event that acquired and retains near-mythical dimensions in popular consciousness and has been represented many times in feature films and television dramas. Alongside relevant technical developments, the book also examines the social, cultural, and political changes occurring in the second half of the 20th century and first decade of current century that helped shape how the battle came to be framed dramatically. This edition contains a new chapter looking at the portrayal of the Battle of Britain at the time of its 70th anniversary. Through its perceptive demonstration of how our memory of the battle has been constantly reshaped through film and television, The Battle of Britain on Screen provides students of the Second World War, 20th-century Britain and film history with a thorough and complex understanding of an iconic historical event.

Book Lloyd George and the Generals

Download or read book Lloyd George and the Generals written by David R. Woodward and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-11-23 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The frustrating stalemate on the western front with its unprecedented casualties provoked a furious debate in London between the civil and military authorities over the best way to defeat Germany. The passions aroused continued to the present day. The mercurial and dynamic David Lloyd George stood at the centre of this controversy throughout the war. His intervention in military questions and determination to redirect strategy put him at odds with the leading soldiers and admirals of his day. Professor Woodward, a student of the Great War for some four decades, explores the at times Byzantine atmosphere at Whitehall by exhaustive archival research in official and private papers. The focus is on Lloyd George and his adversaries such as Lord Kitchener, General Sir William Robertson, and Field Marshall Sir Douglas Haig. The result is a fresh, compelling and detailed account of the interaction between civil and military authorities in total war.
