Book Third Level French Regular and Semi Regular Verb Exercises

Download or read book Third Level French Regular and Semi Regular Verb Exercises written by Ghi Dean and published by . This book was released on 2020-09-13 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At a conference for French teachers, one of them told me loudly that teaching verbs was against the law. I was stunned. Thirty minutes later I saw him again and he told me verbs were to be used, but not taught, nor do the students have to learn them (although if they happen to absorb one accidentally I suppose that is OK), and verbs are not to be included in any mark including the report card mark. That is an insult to the intelligence of our students! So I decided to show everyone how easy they really are. My French Regular Verb books are meant to help students (and teachers) understand French verbs and use them correctly. When they memorize a 'saynette,' they will then also know why the verb has the ending it has and the meanings it has. Each page in my books teaches one verb with all its pronoun subjects. I start with the present tense, in the affirmative and the negative. (Then the imperfect, the past tenses, the future and so on.) The French negative is included because it has two words, one half before the verb and the other half after. So there is a chart, where they can find everything they need to know to get 100%: the English pronoun subjects and the French, all the endings, and the meanings. If they follow it carefully, they'll get it all correct. In fact each page has everything on it for them to get 100%. They just have to find it. I always did a complete verb chart a day with my secondary students. As they entered the classroom I would have them write the forms on the board, and while the students at the board were finishing, I would drill the class on the meanings, eventually adding pronoun objects and negatives as students gave the answers, and the person who gave the final answer with a pronoun object, a negative and made into a question was applauded. (Secondary school; I would do a easier version in elementary school.) On Fridays, they would get a blank verb page sheet of one of the verbs we did that week, and I would mark it. The marks were soon high and they were able to bank marks, because they were included in the final mark for their reports. Eventually I would make more challenging tests without the verb subjects and endings, but with the vocab for the translation.Speaking of translation, translation is again a dirty word. I use it anyway, because I have noticed that many students translate it in their heads anyway, and they may as well do it right.Ghi DeanBack in the book, after conjugating the verb in the positive and the negative, there are 5 -10 sentences for them to translate, and every word is given in English and French in a vocabulary list - organized under nouns, adjectives, prepositions, adverbs, and negatives.. The point is for students to be able to bank marks, so they can be proud and happy with in French class.

The books in the unique Language Verb Drill series make it easier than ever for learners to meet that challenge. Drilling, whether it's for learning a musical instrument, a sport, or a language, is an essential part of a sound education because repeated, concentrated practice makes specialized skills become second nature. Unlike most verb books, which tend to concentrate on tables of conjugations, the books in the Language Verb Drills series allow students to focus exclusively on building mastery of verbs without being distracted by other elements of grammar. Combining the features of a workbook and reference manual, they clearly and systematically explain how a verb system works while providing numerous drills for practice. These revised editions of the popular study guides now include a final review section to reinforce the reader's ability to automatically select the correct verb form.

Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER • For anyone who wants to learn a foreign language, this is the method that will finally make the words stick. “A brilliant and thoroughly modern guide to learning new languages.”—Gary Marcus, cognitive psychologist and author of the New York Times bestseller Guitar Zero At thirty years old, Gabriel Wyner speaks six languages fluently. He didn’t learn them in school—who does? Rather, he learned them in the past few years, working on his own and practicing on the subway, using simple techniques and free online resources—and here he wants to show others what he’s discovered. Starting with pronunciation, you’ll learn how to rewire your ears and turn foreign sounds into familiar sounds. You’ll retrain your tongue to produce those sounds accurately, using tricks from opera singers and actors. Next, you’ll begin to tackle words, and connect sounds and spellings to imagery rather than translations, which will enable you to think in a foreign language. And with the help of sophisticated spaced-repetition techniques, you’ll be able to memorize hundreds of words a month in minutes every day. This is brain hacking at its most exciting, taking what we know about neuroscience and linguistics and using it to create the most efficient and enjoyable way to learn a foreign language in the spare minutes of your day.
