Book Recurrent Neural Networks

Download or read book Recurrent Neural Networks written by Fathi M. Salem and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-03 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook provides a compact but comprehensive treatment that provides analytical and design steps to recurrent neural networks from scratch. It provides a treatment of the general recurrent neural networks with principled methods for training that render the (generalized) backpropagation through time (BPTT). This author focuses on the basics and nuances of recurrent neural networks, providing technical and principled treatment of the subject, with a view toward using coding and deep learning computational frameworks, e.g., Python and Tensorflow-Keras. Recurrent neural networks are treated holistically from simple to gated architectures, adopting the technical machinery of adaptive non-convex optimization with dynamic constraints to leverage its systematic power in organizing the learning and training processes. This permits the flow of concepts and techniques that provide grounded support for design and training choices. The author’s approach enables strategic co-training of output layers, using supervised learning, and hidden layers, using unsupervised learning, to generate more efficient internal representations and accuracy performance. As a result, readers will be enabled to create designs tailoring proficient procedures for recurrent neural networks in their targeted applications.

Book Higher Level Hardware Synthesis

Download or read book Higher Level Hardware Synthesis written by Richard Sharp and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-03-18 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the mid 1960s, when a single chip contained an average of 50 transistors, Gordon Moore observed that integrated circuits were doubling in complexity every year. In an in?uential article published by Electronics Magazine in 1965, Moore predicted that this trend would continue for the next 10 years. Despite being criticized for its “unrealistic optimism,” Moore’s prediction has remained valid for far longer than even he imagined: today, chips built using state-- the-art techniques typically contain several million transistors. The advances in fabrication technology that have supported Moore’s law for four decades have fuelled the computer revolution. However, this exponential increase in transistor density poses new design challenges to engineers and computer scientists alike. New techniques for managing complexity must be developed if circuits are to take full advantage of the vast numbers of transistors available. In this monograph we investigate both (i) the design of high-level languages for hardware description, and (ii) techniques involved in translating these hi- level languages to silicon. We propose SAFL, a ?rst-order functional language designedspeci?callyforbehavioralhardwaredescription,anddescribetheimp- mentation of its associated silicon compiler. We show that the high-level pr- erties of SAFL allow one to exploit program analyses and optimizations that are not employed in existing synthesis systems. Furthermore, since SAFL fully abstracts the low-leveldetails of the implementation technology, we show how it can be compiled to a range of di?erent design styles including fully synchronous design and globally asynchronous locally synchronous (GALS) circuits.

Book Structured Worlds

Download or read book Structured Worlds written by Aubrey Cannon and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-10-14 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hunter-gatherer societies are constrained by their environment and the technologies available to them. However, until now the role of culture in foraging communities has not been widely considered. 'Structured Worlds' examines the role of cosmology, values, and perceptions in the archaeological histories of hunter-fisher-gatherers. The essays examine a range of cultures - Mesolithic Europe, Siberia, Jomon Japan, the Northwest Coast, the northern Plains, and High Arctic of North America - to show the role of conceptual frameworks in subsistence and settlement, technology, mobility, migration, demography, and social organization. Spanning from the early Holocene period to the present day, 'Structured Worlds' draws on archaeology and ethnography to explore the role of beliefs, ritual, and social values in the interaction between foragers and their physical and social landscape. Material culture, animal bones and settlement patterns show that the behaviours of hunter-gatherers were shaped as much by cultural concepts as by material need.

Book Proceedings of the 3rd Global Summit of Research Institutes for Disaster Risk Reduction

Download or read book Proceedings of the 3rd Global Summit of Research Institutes for Disaster Risk Reduction written by Hirokazu Tatano and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-11 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents selected papers from the 3rd Global Summit of Research Institutes for Disaster Risk Reduction – Expanding the Platform for Bridging Science and Policy Making, which was held at the Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), Kyoto University, Uji Campus from 19 to 21 March 2017. It was organised by the Global Alliance of Disaster Research Institutes (GADRI), which was established soon after the second Global Summit and the UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in March 2015, and is intended to support the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030. The conference not only provided a platform for discussion and exchange of information on key current and future research projects on disaster risk reduction and management, but also promoted active dialogues through group discussion sessions that addressed various disaster research disciplines. In this book, authors from various disciplines working at governmental and international organisations provide guidance to the science and technical community, discuss the current challenges, and evaluate the research needs and gaps in the context of climate change, sustainable development goals and other interlinked global disaster situations. Expert opinions from practitioners and researchers provide valuable insights into how to connect and engage in collaborative research with the international science and technical communities and other stakeholders to achieve the goals set out in the agenda of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030. In addition, case studies and other evidence-based research papers highlight ongoing research projects and reflect the challenges encountered in information sharing by various stakeholders in the context of disaster risk reduction and management. Chapter “Science and technology commitment to the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030” is available open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License via link.springer.com.

Book Hardware and Software Verification and Testing

Download or read book Hardware and Software Verification and Testing written by Karen Yorav and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-02-01 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the 3rd Haifa Veri?cation Conference (HVC 2007), whichtookplacein Haifa during October 2007. HVC isa forumfor researchers from both industry and academia to share and advance knowledge in the veri?cation of hardware and software systems. Academic research in veri?cation is generally divided into two paradigms - formal veri?cation and dynamic veri?cation (testing). Within each paradigm, di?erent algorithms and techniques are used for hardware and softwaresystems. Yet, attheircore, allofthesetechniquesaimtoachievethesamegoalofensuring the correct functionality of a complicated system. HVC is the only conference that brings together researchers from all four?elds, thereby encouraging the migration of methods and ideas between domains. With this goal in mind we established the HVC Award. This award rec- nizes a promising contribution to veri?cation published in the last few years. It is aimed at developments that signi?cantly advance the state of the art in veri?cation technology and show potential for future impact on di?erent ver- cation paradigms. The winners of the HVC Award are chosen by an indep- dent committee with experts from all?elds of veri?cation - both formal and dynamic, software and hardware. The winners of the 2007 HVC Award were Corina Pas?? areanu and Willem Visser, for their work on combining static and dynamic analysis. This year we received 32 submissions, out of which 15 were accepted after a thorough review conducted by the Program Committee (PC) and additional reviewers. Eachpaper wasreviewedby atleastthree reviewers, sometimes more.
