Book Thin Walled Composite Beams

Download or read book Thin Walled Composite Beams written by Liviu Librescu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-15 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation This is the first monograph devoted to the foundation of the theory of composite anisotropic thin-walled beams and to its applications in various problems involving the aeronautical/aerospace, helicopter, naval and mechanical structures. Throughout the theoretical part, an effort was made to provide the treatment of the subject by using the equations of the 3-D elasticity theory. Non-classical effects such as transverse shear, warping constraint, anisotropy of constituent materials yielding the coupling of twist-bending (lateral), bending (transversal)-extension have been included and their implications have been thoroughly analyzed. Thermal effects have been included and in order to be able to circumvent their deleterious effects, functionally graded materials have been considered in their construction. Implications of the application of the tailoring technique and of the active feedback control on free vibration, dynamic response, instability and aeroelasticity of such structures have been amply investigated. Special care was exercised throughout this work to address and validate the adopted solution methodologies and the obtained results against those available in the literature and obtained via numerical or experimental means.

Book Statics and Stability of Thin walled Elastic Beams

Download or read book Statics and Stability of Thin walled Elastic Beams written by E. Giangreco and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamental equations were formulated of elastic equilibrium of thin walled beams subject to general loads and dislocations starting only from the hypothesis of non-deformed transverse cross sections. Formulation was made of the fundamental equations of dynamic stability of thin walled beams subject to general conservation loads and dislocations by use of a systematic geometrical approach. (Author).

Book Analysis of Thin Walled Beams

Download or read book Analysis of Thin Walled Beams written by Yoon Young Kim and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-20 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive introduction to an advanced beam theory applicable to thin-walled beams of rectangular and arbitrarily-shaped cross-sections. Furthermore, it describes a unique beam-based approach to handling joint structures consisting of thin-walled beams, compiled here for the first time. This higher-order beam theory (HoBT), developed by the authors over the past two decades, uses more than six degrees of freedom (DOFs) in contrast to the classical theories, which use only six DOFs. The additional degrees of freedom describe sectional deformations such as warping and distortion. This book presents a novel systematic procedure to derive the sectional deformations analytically for rectangular cross-sections and numerically for arbitrarily-shaped cross-sections. This book is a must for structural/mechanical engineers who wish to understand and design structures involving thin-walled beams.

Numerical examples are given for several static and stability problems.

Book A Variational Approach to Structural Analysis

Download or read book A Variational Approach to Structural Analysis written by David V. Wallerstein and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2002 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An insightful examination of the numerical methods used to develop finite element methods A Variational Approach to Structural Analysis provides readers with the underpinnings of the finite element method (FEM) while highlighting the power and pitfalls of virtual methods. In an easy-to-follow, logical format, this book gives complete coverage of the principle of virtual work, complementary virtual work and energy methods, and static and dynamic stability concepts. The first two chapters prepare the reader with preliminary material, introducing in detail the variational approach used in the book as well as reviewing the equilibrium and compatibility equations of mechanics. The next chapter, on virtual work, teaches how to use kinematical formulations for the determination of the required strain relationships for straight, curved, and thin walled beams. The chapters on complementary virtual work and energy methods are problem-solving chapters that incorporate Castigliano's first theorem, the Engesser-Crotti theorem, and the Galerkin method. In the final chapter, the reader is introduced to various geometric measures of strain and revisits straight, curved, and thin walled beams by examining them in a deformed geometry. Based on nearly two decades of work on the development of the world's most used FEM code, A Variational Approach to Structural Analysis has been designed as a self-contained, single-source reference for mechanical, aerospace, and civil engineering professionals. The book's straightforward style also provides accessible instruction for graduate students in aeronautical, civil, mechanical, and engineering mechanics courses.

Book Elastic Beams and Frames

Download or read book Elastic Beams and Frames written by J D Renton and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-03-01 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book approaches the basic theory of structures from a different perspective from standard pedagogy. There is consideration of work and energy concepts as fundamental and the equations of statics derived from them. Likewise, these concepts, together with that of the characteristic response, are used in the derivation of beam theory. Plane sections remaining plane is then seen as a particular result for isotropic, homogeneous, prismatic beams. The general theory may still be used where none of these conditions holds, and can even be applied to trusses. It also corrects errors in the theory of beam shear. Special topics discussed include non-uniform torsion, the exact analysis of shear, anisotropy, advanced energy methods, optimum structures, and regular frames. Software provided in the book includes seven general purpose programs for analysis of plane, space frames with rigid or pinned joints, and uses the augmented Gaussian elimination process and dynamic storage techniques. - Approaches the basic theory of elastic beams and frames from a different perspective from standard pedagogy - Provides an introduction to more advanced ideas on the theory of structures and contains much additional material - Includes consideration of work and energy concepts as fundamental and the equations of statistics derived from them
