Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: VLSI Electronics: Microstructure Science, Volume 6: Materials and Process Characterization addresses the problem of how to apply a broad range of sophisticated materials characterization tools to materials and processes used for development and production of very large scale integration (VLSI) electronics. This book discusses the various characterization techniques, such as Auger spectroscopy, secondary ion mass spectroscopy, X-ray topography, transmission electron microscopy, and spreading resistance. The systematic approach to the technologies of VLSI electronic materials and device manufacture are also considered. This volume is beneficial to materials scientists, chemists, and engineers who are commissioned with the responsibility of developing and implementing the production of materials and devices to support the VLSI era.

Download or read book VLSI Metallization written by Norman G. Einspruch and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-12-01 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: VLSI Electronics Microstructure Science, Volume 15: VLSI Metallization discusses the various issues and problems related to VLSI metallization. It details the available solutions and presents emerging trends. This volume is comprised of 10 chapters. The two introductory chapters, Chapter 1 and 2 serve as general references for the electrical and metallurgical properties of thin conducting films. Subsequent chapters review the various aspects of VLSI metallization. The order of presentation has been chosen to follow the common processing sequence. In Chapter 3, some relevant metal deposition techniques are discussed. Chapter 4 presents the methods of VLSI lithography and etching. Conducting films are first deposited at the gate definition step; therefore, the issues related to gate metallization are discussed next in Chapter 5.In Chapter 6, contact metallization is elaborated, and Chapter 7 is devoted to multilevel metallization schemes. Long-time reliability is the subject of Chapter 8, which discusses the issues of contact and interconnect electromigration. GaAs metallization is tackled in Chapter 9. The volume concludes with a general discussion of the functions of interconnect systems in VLSI. Materials scientists, processing and design engineers, and device physicists will find the book very useful.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A profusion of research and results on the mechanical behaviour of crystalline solids has followed the discovery of dislocations in the early thirties. This trend has been enhanced by the development of powerful experimental techniques. particularly X ray diffraction. transmission and scanning electron microscopy. microanalysis. The technological advancement has given rise to the study of various and complex materials. not to speak of those recently invented. whose mechanical properties need to be mastered. either for their lise as structural materials. or more simply for detenllining their fonnability processes. As is often the case this fast growth has been diverted both by the burial of early fundamental results which are rediscovered more or less accurately. and by the too fast publication of inaccurate results. which propagate widely. and are accepted without criticism. Examples of these statements abound. and will not be quoted here for the sake of dispassionateness. Understanding the mechanical properties of materials implies the use of various experimental techniques. combined with a good theoretical knowledge of elasticity. thermodynamics and solid state physics. The recent development of various computer techniques (simulation. ab initio calculations) has added to the difficulty of gathering the experimental information. and mastering the theoretical understanding. No laboratory is equipped with all the possible experimental settings. almost no scientist masters all this theoretical kno\vledge. Therefore. cooperation between scientists is needed more than even before.

Download or read book Ion Beam Analysis written by H. H. Andersen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-01-31 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear Instruments and Methods, Volume 168: Ion Beam Analysis presents the proceedings of the Fourth International Conference on Ion Beam Analysis, held in Aarhus, Denmark, on June 25–29, 1979. This book provides information pertinent to the methods and applications ion beam analysis. Organized into eight parts encompassing 95 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the straggling of energy loss for protons and alpha particles. This text then examines the method for the calculation of the stopping of energetic ions in matter. Other chapters consider the method for measuring relative stopping powers for light energetic ions in highly reactive materials. This book discusses as well the stopping power and straggling of lithium ions with velocities around the Bohr velocity. The final chapter deals with the adsorption behavior of different gases on monocrystalline platinum surfaces. This book is a valuable resource for scientists, technologists, students, and research workers.

Download or read book Fracture Nanomechanics written by Takayuki Kitamura and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2011-09-06 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Small structures of the micro/nanometer scale, such as electronic/optic devices and MEMS/NEMS have been developed, and the size of their elements now approaches the nano/atomic scale. This book discuses the fracture behavior of nano/atomic elements (nanofilms, nanowires, and so on) and focuses on the initiation and propagation of interface crack and mechanical instability criterion of atomic structures. This covers the fundamentals and the applicability of the top-down (conventional fracture mechanics to nanoscale) and bottom-up (atomic mechanics including ab initio simulation) concepts. New areas, such as multiphysics characteristics of nanoelements, are introduced as well.

Download or read book Bubble Dynamics and Interface Phenomena written by John R. Blake and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains papers presented at the IUTAM Symposium on Bubble Dynamics and Interface Phenomena held at the University of Birmingham from 6-9 September 1993. In many respects it follows on a decade later from the very successful IUTAM Symposium held at CALTECH in June 1981 on the Mechanics and physics of bubbles in liquids which was organised by the late Milton Plesset and Leen van Wijngaarden. The intervening period has seen major development with both experiment and theory. On the experimental side there have been ad vances with very high speed photography and data recording that provide detailed information on fluid and interface motion. Major developments in both computer hardware and software have also led to extensive improvement in our understand ing of bubble and interface dynamics although development is still limited by the sheer complexity of the laminar and turbulent flow regimes often associated with bubbly flows. The symposium attracts wide and extensive interest from engineers, physical, chemical, biological and medical scientists and applied mathematicians. The sci entific committee sought to achieve a balance between theory and experiment over a range of fields in bubble dynamics and interface phenomena. It was our intention to emphasise both the breadth and recent developments in these various fields and to encourage cross-fertilisation of ideas on both experimental techniques and theo retical developments. The programme, and the proceedings recorded herein, cover bubble dynamics, sound and wave propagation, bubbles in flow, sonoluminescence, acoustic cavitation, underwater explosions, bursting bubbles and ESWL.
