Download or read book Ishmael Reed written by Ishmael Reed and published by Dalkey Archive Press. This book was released on 2009-09-02 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The award-winning plays of one of the most celebrated and innovative American writers of our time. Ishmael Reed’s career as one of our great playwrights has long been eclipsed by his other work. Here published for the first time, Reed’s plays follow the ancient tradition of using the theater as a forum in which the official versions of our history can be critiqued. Dealing with subjects that mainstream theatergoers might find disturbing—homelessness, the arbitrary entrapment of a black politician, the excesses of the radical feminist movement, the use of black conservatives to promote right-wing agendas, the exploitation of blacks and Africans as unsuspecting guinea pigs by the pharmaceutical industry, and the hypocrisy of the Christian church—Reed’s plays are a pungent antidote to the watered-down world of contemporary pop culture, where, Reed argues, minority voices remain as marginalized and stigmatized as they were a hundred years ago.

Football is the sole focus of my life—until a squawking baby girl, with a temper to rival my own, lands in my lap and flips my life upside down. I’ll never be Dad of the Year. Anyone will tell you that—except maybe Sienna, my sister’s beautiful former roommate, who somehow manages to make my broody ass laugh and sees something in me no one else does. When Sienna offers to let me and my little princess move in with her, I’m not sure if it’s to help or because she wants revenge on my teammate and long-time rival, who broke her heart. Either way, I’m game, because I need to get my ex off my back, and Sienna doesn’t mind pretending to be my girlfriend. Only neither of us is ready for the sexual tension that builds and the sparks that fly between us… or the consequences when they do. * * * Tight Ends & Tiaras is a spicy, standalone college sports romance about a grumpy football player who didn’t know he was a dad, a free-spirited, sassy Latina with a secret past, a sexy trip to the lake, and a guaranteed HEA. Download or read book The Baby Blitz written by Lex Martin and published by Lex Martin. This book was released on 2023-02-21 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A sexy, enemies-to-lovers, brother’s best friend romance from USA Today bestselling author Lex Martin. Two pink lines won’t change the bad blood between us. I haven’t always hated my brother’s best friend, but Michael Oliver gets under my skin and brings out the worst in me. He knows how to push my buttons, and I relish pushing all of his. He betrayed my trust years ago, so I’ve made it my mission in life to aggravate him until he admits he was wrong. When his sister’s wedding brings us together, Michael suggests a truce for one night. If only he weren’t so handsome and smart, maybe I could resist the allure, but I’ve always been a little impulsive, and this man is my ultimate temptation. After years of pent-up frustration and unrequited lust, I finally let down my guard, and that’s all it takes for us to combust. But like all bad decisions, the morning after brings a reckoning, and I leave his hotel room swearing to never waste another moment of my time pining after him. Who needs that grumpy jerk warming her bed? Not me. I don’t let myself think about that steamy night together, or how it pained me to hear about his football injury, or how much I know he wants to get drafted so he can help his family. Because I’m cutting Michael out of my life for good. Only the two little pink lines mean I can’t forget him. Even if I desperately want to. * * * The Baby Blitz is a companion standalone to USA Today-bestselling author Lex Martin’s sensational college football romance novels, The Varsity Dad Dilemma and Tight Ends & Tiaras. Readers will love this sensual multicultural romance featuring a scorching-hot college football player and the feisty, but slightly nerdy girl next door—the one he swore he’d never make a move on. Will Michael make the right decision if he has to choose between Maggie or fulfilling his dream of playing professional football?

Download or read book David and the Phoenix written by David Ormondroyd and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-11-01 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: David has no greater wish than to explore the mountains behind his new home in North Carolina and as he does he finds a wonder never dreamed of, the Phoenix. The Phoenix introduces David to an endless list of his friends from mythology and in the process opens David's eyes to the wide world both the unseen world and seen world. In the unseen world David and the Phoenix share many adventures all the while a scientist is trying to capture the Phoenix to prove to the world that the bird is real. The phoenix takes David on "educational field trips" to meet sea monsters, fauns and other creatures. Plus they hatch a hysterical plot to scare off an over eager scientist from the phoenix's trail. David learns some valuable lessons about life, one is that nothing remains the same as one grows up. The other is... well perhaps you should read the book yourself and find your own lessons within the pages. A well written story, "David and the Phoenix" has no particular time setting so that it could very well be placed in current time. It brings back to me memories of times when life was much simpler, more pleasant and without the problems we as adults face. It's a story of childhood and the dreams that children of every age share and which we all to soon leave behind. Of course, there is the traditional fiery death of the phoenix in the story.
