Book The World Is Not Ours to Save

Download or read book The World Is Not Ours to Save written by Tyler Wigg-Stevenson and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2012-11-28 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christianity Today Book Award Winner Outreach Magazine Resource of the Year We want to save the world—and we have a dizzying array of worthy causes to pursue. But passionate enthusiasm can quickly give way to disillusionment, compassion fatigue or empty slacktivism. As we move from awareness to mobilization, we bump up against the complexities of global problems—and liking Facebook pages only goes so far. Veteran activist Tyler Wigg-Stevenson identifies the practical and spiritual pitfalls that threaten much of today's cause-driven Christianity. He casts an alternate vision for doing good based on the liberating truth that only God can save the world. Wigg-Stevenson's own pilgrimage from causes to calling shows how to ground an enduring, kingdom-oriented activism in the stillness of vocation rather than in the anxiety of the world's brokenness. The world is not ours to save. And that's okay. Discover why.

Book The Law of Attraction Saved My Life It Can Save Yours

Download or read book The Law of Attraction Saved My Life It Can Save Yours written by Kenneth Griffin Jr. and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2015-10-21 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you heard of the Law of Attraction? Have you attempted to get it to work, but been unsuccessful? Have you been successful with it, but feel like you should be able to do more with it? Even if you have never heard of the Law of Attraction, I believe that I have found a vital strategy in making this Universal Law work for me, instead of me working hard to make it work at all. Inside this book, you will also find the story of my life, and how the Law of Attraction affected it through every year, through every problem, and through every event. In this book, you will find real life events that coincide with the Law of Attraction and how the Law affected every outcome of it. My desire is to pass on what I have learned so far, so that you may learn how to make this Universal Law work for you as well, or at least gain a better understanding on how the Law affects your life. I struggled through half of my life thinking that what was in front of me was all that existed. I spent half of my life believing that the past had everything to do with what my future held and what I could accomplish in it. I spent half of my life living in total and complete fear! Then I discovered that both the past and the future are nothing more than a story that we make up in our minds. Yes, life is definitely a journey, and I would like to invite you to join me in taking a look at mine so far. Who knows, it may just change your perception.

Book excerpt: The coasts of today's American South feature luxury condominiums, resorts, and gated communities, yet just a century ago, a surprising amount of beachfront property in the Chesapeake, along the Carolina shores, and around the Gulf of Mexico was owned and populated by African Americans. Blending social and environmental history, Andrew W. Kahrl tells the story of African American–owned beaches in the twentieth century. By reconstructing African American life along the coast, Kahrl demonstrates just how important these properties were for African American communities and leisure, as well as for economic empowerment, especially during the era of the Jim Crow South. However, in the wake of the civil rights movement and amid the growing prosperity of the Sunbelt, many African Americans fell victim to effective campaigns to dispossess black landowners of their properties and beaches. Kahrl makes a signal contribution to our understanding of African American landowners and real-estate developers, as well as the development of coastal capitalism along the southern seaboard, tying the creation of overdeveloped, unsustainable coastlines to the unmaking of black communities and cultures along the shore. The result is a skillful appraisal of the ambiguous legacy of racial progress in the Sunbelt.

Book Failing to Protect

    Book Details:
  • Author : Rosa Freedman
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2015
  • ISBN : 0190222549
  • Pages : 240 pages

Download or read book Failing to Protect written by Rosa Freedman and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2015 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every year tens of millions of individuals suffer grave abuses of their human rights. These violations occur worldwide, in war-torn countries and in the wealthiest states. Despite many of the abuses being well-documented, little seems to be done to stop them from happening. The United Nations was established to safeguard world peace and security, development, and human rights yet it is undeniable that currently is it failing to protect the rights of a great many people from the victims of ethnic cleansing, to migrants, those displaced by war and women who suffer horrendous abuse. This book looks at the reasons for that failure. Using concrete examples intertwined with explanations of the law and politics of the UN, Rosa Freedman offers clear explanations of how and why the Organisation is unable, at best, or unwilling, at worst, to protect human rights. Written for a non-specialist audience, her book also seeks to explain why certain countries and political blocs manipulate and undermine the UN s human rights machinery. Failing to Protect demonstrates the urgent need for radical reform of the machinery of human rights protection at the international level.

Book Success Is Yours to Keep

Download or read book Success Is Yours to Keep written by Paul Keta and published by Partridge Africa. This book was released on 2016-12-23 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Come to think of it...everyone wants some level of success in their lives but unfortunately just wanting the success will not get the job done. Becoming successful and prosperous in life is not an automatic process. Do not remain ignorant about this. The Lord said "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge". When things are going wrong in our lives and we don't achieve the success we desire we are quick to focus our energies on blaming Satan yet Satan simply takes advantage of the ignorance of humans so that he can lure or tempt these humans into destruction. The above biblical quote is also supported by a management principle that says "What you do not know you cannot manage and what you cannot manage you cannot control". So if you don't know who you are, or what the reason for your existence here on Earth is, or what is that you want your future life to look like then it will take a miracle to achieve the life that you may call prosperous. It is next to impossible for a journey of any human life to be successsful if run on autopilot. It takes knowledge about who you are and it also takes reams of effort and passion to take your life to your desired level of success. Millions of people in the world are stressed, frustrated, disillusioned, demotivated and suffer a lot of pain simply because they do not know where their life or that of their business is going. If you happen to be one of those feeling lost and disillusioned about life and would like to turn such a situation into success, then I strongly recommend that you read this book "Success Is Yours to Keep" that provides practical guidance to discovery of your unique journey to success and prosperity.

Book The Right It

Download or read book The Right It written by Alberto Savoia and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2019-02-26 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this accessible, prescriptive, and widely applicable manual, Google’s first engineering director and current Innovation Agitator Emeritus provides critical advice for rethinking how we launch a new idea, product, or business, insights to help successfully beat the law of market failure: that most new products will fail, even if competently executed. Millions of people around the world are working to introduce new ideas. Some will turn out to be stunning successes and have a major impact on our world and our culture: The next Google, the next Polio vaccine, the next Harry Potter, the next Red Cross, the next Ford Mustang. Others successes will be smaller and more personal, but no less meaningful: A restaurant that becomes a neighborhood favorite, a biography that tells an important story, a local nonprofit that cares for abandoned pets. Simultaneously, other groups are working equally hard to develop new ideas that, when launched, will fail. Some will fail spectacularly and publicly: New Coke, the movie John Carter, the Ford Edsel. Others failures will be smaller and more private, but no less failure: A home-based business that never takes off, a children’s book that neither publishers nor children have any interest in, a charity for a cause too few people care about. Most people believe that their venture will be successful. But the law of market failure tells us that up to 90 percent of most new products, services, businesses, and initiatives will fail soon after launch—regardless of how promising they sound, how much we commit to them, or how well we execute them. This is a hard fact to accept. Combining detailed case studies with personal insight drawn from his time at Google, his experience as an entrepreneur and consultant, and his lectures at Stanford University and Google, Alberto Savoia offers an unparalleled approach to beating the beast that is market failure: “Make sure you are building The Right It before you build It right,” he advises. In The Right It, he provides lessons on creating your own hard data, a strategy for market engagement, and an introduction to the concept of a pretotype (not a prototype). Groundbreaking, entertaining, and highly practical, this essential guide delivers a proven formula for ensuring ideas, products, services, and businesses succeed.

Book Anecdotally Yours

Download or read book Anecdotally Yours written by Somjit Amrit and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2023-09-25 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is not a dossier or a diary! “Anecdotally Yours” captures the anecdotes of life—random yet aligned. The observations are made by soaking up sights, sounds, and overtones. Each reflection is crafted into a story with a non-prescriptive lesson told in a light-hearted manner. The observations are linked to day-to-day occurrences that are often ignored or are scantly addressed. The narratives in business, ecology, society/humanity, and technology are shared. These are conceived and crafted into 25 chapters. The narrative energy dwells on well-known and well-accepted principles. Yet it maintains just enough novelty in the retelling. Each chapter is bite-sized, to be consumed in less than five minutes because the author is well aware of the reader’s attention span, which is ironically at a premium in the so-called “attention economy.”
