Book Advances in Signal Processing for Nondestructive Evaluation of Materials

Download or read book Advances in Signal Processing for Nondestructive Evaluation of Materials written by X.P. Maldague and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) is now playing an increasing role in our modern global economy; in security sensitive industries, for instance. The complexity of the inspection task and either large or limited lot runs now require more operator-assisted or fully- automated signal processing. This book deals with both fields of expertise: NDE and signal processing. On the signal processing side, in the particular context of NDE applications, the following topics are discussed: sensor fusion, signal knowledge representation, artificial intelligence, fuzzy logic, computer vision, integration of numeric and non-numeric informations, parallel decomposition, noise processing and calibration of sensor devices as well as reliability of detection. Some hardware considerations are introduced as well, to discuss platforms on which processing is done. On the NDE side, applications include advances in holographic interferometry, microwave resonance or shearography and also on more traditional NDE techniques such as ultrasonics, infrared techniques, X-ray, computed tomography, Eddy currents. Inverse problems are also discussed. This book is required reading for those who already have some experience in one or both fields (signal processing and/or NDE).

Book Nondestructive Evaluation of Materials by Infrared Thermography

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With national trade barriers falling, causing the expansion of the com petitive global market, the question of quality control has become an essential issue for the 1990s. The time where the promise was to replace a product if it does not work seems to have passed; what is more impor tant now is not so much a reduction in what is going wrong but an increase of what is going right the first time (Feigenbaum 1990). This new trend is sometimes referred to as total quality. Among the many advantages ofthis zero-defect manufacturing policy, we can enumerate (Laurin 1990): superior marketability of wholly de pendable products, enormous gain in productivity, elimination of waste ful cost in replacing poor quality work and retrofitting rejected products from the field. Although total quality is a relatively new and attractive concept for mass products such as cars, consumer electronics and per sonal computers, in many fields, mainly aerospace and military, it has been the rule for years because of security reasons.

Book Advanced Ceramic Matrix Composites

Download or read book Advanced Ceramic Matrix Composites written by Edward R. Generazio and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1995-12-14 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced ceramic composites are the focus of intense research and development today because these materials offer a unique mix of properties that make them useful and economical for major engineering applications. As part of this R&D effort, new tools for characterization, evaluation and testing have been developed and are in current use. This book brings together leading materials researchers to report on these developments. In-depth reports cover evaluation and test methods as they relate to the design of specific advanced ceramic composite materials and their applications. The reports are supplemented with extensive test result data and illustrated with numerous micrographs and schematics.

Book International Advances in Nondestructive Testing

Download or read book International Advances in Nondestructive Testing written by Warren J. McGonnagle and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents original research in the broad areas of technical design and nondestructive testing procedures. It provides critical information for managers, materials scientists, quality control specialists and engineers who must stay abreast of rapidly advancing methods for the detection and measurement of the performance capabilities for parts, equipment and structures. Papers of special interest to the aircraft, nuclear and automotive industries include adhesive bonding of lap joints, nuclear radiography, nuclear tomography, use of hte leaky lamb wave technique to determine the dynamic elastic moduli of a fiber-reinforced composite, and a comparison of the resonant technique with the impact-echo technique.

Book Hypersonic Flows for Reentry Problems

Download or read book Hypersonic Flows for Reentry Problems written by Jean-Antoine Desideri and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This entry describes the experimental work conducted in the Department of Aeronautics at Imperial College in connection with Test Problems 1 and 2 of the "Workshop on Hypersonic Flows for Reentry Problems, Part I". These are defined as follows: Test Problem 1 Flow Over a Slender Cone Test Problem 2 Turbulent Base Flow The main requirement of this text is to present the experimental data for direct comparison with the predictions of CFD codes. We have therefore concentrated mainly on a factual statement of measuring techniques and results, together with an assessment of experimental accuracy. Future publications will be devoted to more extensive physical interpretations and discussions of the results. We have produced a large volume of data, some of which were categorised as "MANDATORY" and some as "OPTIONAL" for the purposes of CFD validation. However, only the "MANDATORY" data are presented here, although the other data are available and will be published separately later. 2. EXPERIMENTAL ARRANGEMENT 2. 1 The Test Facility The experiments were conducted in the Imperial College No. 2 Gun tunnel. This facility is a conventional intermittent blowdown tunnel with a contoured Mach 9 (nominal) axisymmetric nozzle fed by a free piston compression heater. The operating condition under which the data contained in this report were obtained is presented in Table 1. Test 2 T (oK) M b. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This definitive source provides practicing professionals and students in the occupational, environmental, and public health and safety fields with the functional basics of biological monitoring. The author examines how environmental exposures to particular chemicals are related to concentrations of markers in body tissues and fluids. Biological Monitoring integrates the applied sciences of industrial/environmental hygiene, epidemiology, public health, occupational medicine, toxicology, biochemistry, and analytical chemistry with the basic sciences to interpret the connections between exposures and lifestyle/environmental influences, and their effects on humans. This comprehensive introduction provides dependable, detailed coverage of: * monitoring for harmful substances in the workplace * the benefits and limitations of testing for critical levels of toxic materials in bodily tissues and fluids * state-of-the-art developments in biological monitoring * a wide variety of toxic chemicals and selected physical agents * immunoassays * monitoring for HIV and AIDS * importance of exposure routes * the most up-to-date methods of health and medical surveillance * the interpretation of adduct concentrations * biological exposure indices * biological monitoring of pesticides * biological monitoring in the home and around hazardous waste sites * and much more This essential, compelling guide is the only inclusive and thorough introduction available. Biological Monitoring's rigorous, accessible, interdisciplinary approach makes this an invaluable reference and text for industrial and environmental hygienists, physicians, pharmacists, nurses, epidemiologists, toxicologists, laboratory technicians, chemical engineers, science graduate students, and the environmentally concerned.
