Book An Estimation of Temperature Dependent Transversely Isotropic Thermoelastic Properties of Single Crystal SiC Whiskers

Download or read book An Estimation of Temperature Dependent Transversely Isotropic Thermoelastic Properties of Single Crystal SiC Whiskers written by Y. S. Yuan and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Silicon carbide (SiC) fibers and whiskers are recently utilized as important reinforcements for advanced high-temperature metal-matrix and ceramic composites owing to their outstanding mechanical properties and thermal stability at elevated temperatures. Clear understanding of thermomechanical properties of these reinforcements at elevated temperatures is critical to the future development of various advanced high-temperature composites. The continuous SiC fiber (for example, the Nicalon fiber) has a polycrystalline microstructure and has isotropic elastic properties. However, the SiC whiskers are very small single-crystal filaments of ellipsoids, possess transversely isotropic elastic properties. The isotropic elastic moduli of a continuous SiC fiber may be directly determined by various experimental methods.

Book Installation of High Temperature Furnace and Characterization of Silicon Carbide Wafers

Download or read book Installation of High Temperature Furnace and Characterization of Silicon Carbide Wafers written by Shrotin Hendre and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to quasi rapid thermal annealing (RTA) of silicon carbide wafer, the installation of the high temperature furnace has been performed in the Microfabrication Engineering Laboratory. Different type of experiment results in the characterization of the aspects of the device to achieve highest performances. The silicon carbide has already achieved great use in this microelectronics industries for high power RF amplifier. The post implanted annealing is extremely useful to activate the dopant impurities and curing the crystal structure. This experiment has been conducted to fulfil two missions. The first mission is to qualify the brand new RTA from any contamination effect induced by the manufacturer and the second mission is to study the behavior of defects at high temperatures. In order to perform the experiments, the sheet resistance of SiC wafer for before and after annealing at the temperature of 1575°C has been intensively studied.

Book Thermal Effects on the Mechanical Properties of SiC Fiber Reinforced Reaction Bonded Silicon Nitride Matrix SiC RBSN Composites

Download or read book Thermal Effects on the Mechanical Properties of SiC Fiber Reinforced Reaction Bonded Silicon Nitride Matrix SiC RBSN Composites written by R. T. Bhatt and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The elevated temperature four-point flexural strength and the room temperature tensile and flexural strength properties after thermal shock were measured for ceramic composites consisting of 30 vol % uniaxially aligned 142 microns diameter SiC fibers in a reaction bonded Si3N4 matrix. The elevated temperature strengths were measured after 15 min of exposure in air at temperatures to 1400 C. The thermal shock treatment was accomplished by heating the composite in air for 15 min at temperatures to 1200 C and then quenching in water at 25 C. The results indicate no significant loss in strength properties either at temperature or after thermal shock when compared with the strength data for composites in the as-fabricated condition. Book Plastic Deformation of Ceramics

Download or read book Plastic Deformation of Ceramics written by R.C. Bradt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 661 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This proceedings volume, "Plastic Deformation of Ceramics," constitutes the papers of an international symposium held at Snowbird, Utah from August 7-12, 1994. It was attended by nearly 100 scientists and engineers from more than a dozen countries representing academia, national laboratories, and industry. Two previous conferences on this topic were held at The Pennsylvania State University in 1974 and 1983. Therefore, the last major international conference focusing on the deformation of ceramic materials was held more than a decade ago. Since the early 1980s, ceramic materials have progressed through an evolutionary period of development and advancement. They are now under consideration for applications in engineering structures. The contents of the previous conferences indicate that considerable effort was directed towards a basic understanding of deformation processes in covalently bonded or simple oxide ceramics. However, now, more than a decade later, the focus has completely shifted. In particular, the drive for more efficient heat engines has resulted in the development of silicon-based ceramics and composite ceramics. The discovery of high-temperature cupric oxide-based superconductors has created a plethora of interesting perovskite-Iike structured ceramics. Additionally, nanophase ceramics, ceramic thin films, and various forms of toughened ceramics have potential applications and, hence, their deformation has been investigated. Finally, new and exciting areas of research have attracted interest since 1983, including fatigue, nanoindentation techniques, and superplasticity.
