Download or read book Computational Homogenization of Heterogeneous Materials with Finite Elements written by Julien Yvonnet and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-06-11 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph provides a concise overview of the main theoretical and numerical tools to solve homogenization problems in solids with finite elements. Starting from simple cases (linear thermal case) the problems are progressively complexified to finish with nonlinear problems. The book is not an overview of current research in that field, but a course book, and summarizes established knowledge in this area such that students or researchers who would like to start working on this subject will acquire the basics without any preliminary knowledge about homogenization. More specifically, the book is written with the objective of practical implementation of the methodologies in simple programs such as Matlab. The presentation is kept at a level where no deep mathematics are required.

Book Fused Deposition Modeling of Composite Materials

Download or read book Fused Deposition Modeling of Composite Materials written by Antonella Sola and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2022-09-06 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fused Deposition Modeling of Composite Materials is dedicated to the field of 3D-printing of composite materials using a popular technique called Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), the world's most popular 3D printing method. But this method is currently limited to printing basic polymers and only a handful of primitive composite materials. Many future industries, such as Space, Biomed, Construction and Defense are waiting for the ability to 3D print composites and new functional materials with complex shapes and features so they can add unique and customizable features to their parts, including biocompatibility, radiation shielding, high-strength, rapid cooling, flexibility and shape-memory. The book's authors take the reader through the basics of what the FDM technique is all about and describe the advantages and new opportunities arising from 3D printing innovative materials, which include polymer-matrix composites and fully inorganic parts. They then review and discuss methods for making the different types of composite feedstock filaments needed to 3D print such materials by FDM. Finally, sections discuss the challenges that should be considered in making filaments and parts and how to go about solving them. - Covers the 3D printing of composite materials - Includes comprehensive coverage of this new and emerging technology - Written in a clear, practical and informative style, with numerous illustrations - Contains case study examples taken from cutting-edge scientific literature

Book Hygro Thermo Magneto Electro Elastic Theory of Anisotropic Doubly Curved Shells

Download or read book Hygro Thermo Magneto Electro Elastic Theory of Anisotropic Doubly Curved Shells written by Francesco Tornabene and published by Società Editrice Esculapio. This book was released on 2023-10-13 with total page 1073 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to present in depth several Higher-order Shear Deformation Theories (HSDTs) by means of a unified approach for studying the Hygro-Thermo-Magneto-Electro- Elastic Theory of Anisotropic Doubly-Curved Shells. In particular, a general coupled multifield theory regarding anisotropic shell structures is provided. The three-dimensional multifield problem is reduced in a two-dimensional one following the principles of the Equivalent Single Layer (ESL) approach and the Equivalent Layer-Wise (ELW) approach, setting a proper configuration model. According to the adopted configuration assumptions, several Higher-order Shear Deformation Theories (HSDTs) are obtained. Furthermore, the strong and weak formulations of the corresponding governing equations are discussed and illustrated. The approach presented in this volume is completely general and represents a valid tool to investigate the physical behavior of many arbitrarily shaped structures. An isogeometric mapping procedure is also illustrated to this aim. Special attention is given also to advanced and innovative constituents, such as Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs), Variable Angle Tow (VAT) composites and Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs). In addition, several numerical applications are used to support the theoretical models. Accurate, efficient and reliable numerical techniques able to approximate both derivatives and integrals are considered, which are respectively the Differential Quadrature (DQ) and Integral Quadrature (IQ) methods. The Theory of Composite Thin Shells is derived in a simple and intuitive manner from the theory of thick and moderately thick shells (First-order Shear Deformation Theory or Reissner- Mindlin Theory). In particular, the Kirchhoff-Love Theory and the Membrane Theory for composite shells are shown. Furthermore, the Theory of Composite Arches and Beams is also exposed. In particular, the equations of the Timoshenko Theory and the Euler-Bernoulli Theory are directly deducted from the equations of singly-curved shells of translation and of plates.
