This book was released on 2004-11-23 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this fully up-to-date volume, important new developments and applications of discrete element modelling are highlighted and brought together for presentation at the First International UDEC/3DEC Symposium. Papers covered the following key areas: * behaviour of masonry structures (walls, bridges, towers, columns) * stability and deformation of tunnels and caverns in fractured rock masses * geomechanical modelling for mining and waste repositories * rock reinforcement design (anchors, shotcrete, bolts) * mechanical and hydro-mechanical behaviour of dams and foundations * rock slope stability, deformation and failure mechanisms * modelling of fundamental rock mechanical problems * modelling of geological processes * constitutive laws for fractured rock masses and masonry structures * dynamic behaviour of discrete structures. Numerical Modelling of Discrete Materials in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Earth Sciences provides an ultra-modern, in-depth analysis of discrete element modelling in a range of different fields, thus proving valuable reading for civil, mining, and geotechnical engineers, as well as other interested professionals.

Book Thermoelasticity

    Book Details:
  • Author : Witold Nowacki
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 2013-10-22
  • ISBN : 1483162486
  • Pages : 579 pages

Download or read book Thermoelasticity written by Witold Nowacki and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 579 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermoelasticity, Second Edition reviews advances in thermoelasticity and covers topics ranging from stationary problems of thermoelasticity to variational theorems of stationary thermoelasticity; stresses due to the action of a discontinuous temperature field in an infinite elastic body; the action of heat sources in the elastic space; and thermal inclusions in an infinite disc and semi-infinite disc. Three different sets of differential equations describing the fields of strain and temperature are presented. This book is comprised of 12 chapters and begins with a discussion on basic relations and equations of thermoelasticity. Thermoelasticity is treated as a synthesis of the theory of elasticity and the theory of heat conduction. Some particular cases of thermoelasticity are then investigated, including stationary problems, the theory of thermal stresses, and classical dynamic elasticity. Dynamic effects due to the action of a non-stationary temperature field are examined, along with plane harmonic waves in an elastic space and thermal stresses in plates, shells, and viscoelastic bodies. The final chapter focuses on micropolar thermoelasticity, magnetothermoelasticity, and thermopiezoelectricity. This monograph will be of interest to physicists and mechanical engineers.

Book Thermal Stresses Advanced Theory and Applications

Download or read book Thermal Stresses Advanced Theory and Applications written by Richard B. Hetnarski and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-11 with total page 657 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an advanced modern textbook on thermal stresses. It serves a wide range of readers, in particular, graduate and postgraduate students, scientists, researchers in various industrial and government institutes, and engineers working in mechanical, civil, and aerospace engineering. This volume covers diverse areas of applied mathematics, continuum mechanics, stress analysis, and mechanical design. This work treats a number of topics not presented in other books on thermal stresses, for example: theory of coupled and generalized thermoelasticity, finite and boundary element method in generalized thermoelasticity, thermal stresses in functionally graded structures, and thermal expansions of piping systems. The book starts from basic concepts and principles, and these are developed to more advanced levels as the text progresses. Nevertheless, some basic knowledge on the part of the reader is expected in classical mechanics, stress analysis, and mathematics, including vector and cartesian tensor analysis. This 2nd enhanced edition includes a new chapter on Thermally Induced Vibrations. The method of stiffness is added to Chapter 7. The variational principle for the Green-Lindsay and Green-Naghdi models have been added to Chapter 2 and equations of motion and compatibility equations in spherical coordinates to Chapter 3. Additional problems at the end of chapters were added.

Book Physical Acoustics V18

    Book Details:
  • Author : Warren P. Mason
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 2012-12-02
  • ISBN : 0323147267
  • Pages : 525 pages

Download or read book Physical Acoustics V18 written by Warren P. Mason and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physical Acoustics: Principles and Methods reviews the principles and methods of physical acoustics, with emphasis on applications of the thermal and acoustic response to light. Measurements in which a beam of light (or electrons) excites a system are presented, and information is obtained from the resulting thermal or acoustic waves. Comprised of seven chapters, this volume begins with a description of the use of number theory to design phase gratings and arrays with low directivity, followed by a comprehensive account of ultrasonic generation by pulsed lasers in gases, vapors, liquids, and solids. Thermoelastic generation at a free surface is considered, along with the effect of material ablation and the effect of surface modification by a thin liquid coating or constraining solid layer. Subsequent chapters focus on electron-acoustic imaging of solids; the theory of photothermal and photoacoustic effects in condensed matter; the use of photoacoustics to study the vibrational relaxation of molecules; and analytical applications of photoacoustic spectroscopy to condensed phase substances. The final chapter describes imaging with optically generated thermal waves. This book will be of interest to physicists.

Book Integral Transforms and Their Applications

Download or read book Integral Transforms and Their Applications written by B. Davies and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to serve as introductory and reference material for the application of integral transforms to a range of common mathematical problems. It has its im mediate origin in lecture notes prepared for senior level courses at the Australian National University, although I owe a great deal to my colleague Barry Ninham, a matter to which I refer below. In preparing the notes for publication as a book, I have added a considerable amount of material ad- tional to the lecture notes, with the intention of making the book more useful, particularly to the graduate student - volved in the solution of mathematical problems in the physi cal, chemical, engineering and related sciences. Any book is necessarily a statement of the author's viewpoint, and involves a number of compromises. My prime consideration has been to produce a work whose scope is selective rather than encyclopedic; consequently there are many facets of the subject which have been omitted--in not a few cases after a preliminary draft was written--because I v believe that their inclusion would make the book too long.
