Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second volume carries on the excellent work of its predecessor, ex tending its scope to other melts and to other techniques. It continues to present first-hand understanding and experience of this difficult and demanding field. There is ever present the trade-off or reconciliation between the novel chemistry of systems not dominated by the mediating influence of a supposedly indifferent solvent and the high temperatures required to effect the fluidity of the system. At the limit, the very high temperatures so increase the rates of all reactions as to dissolve the temporal difference between the thermodynamic and the kinetic view of chemistry. What can happen will happen and invariably does happen. Vessels corrode, the apparatus becomes a reactant, and the number of tolerant materials able to withstand the attack shrinks to graphite, boron carbide or, if all else fails, to frozen parts of the molten salt itself. It is probably true that there is no limit to man's ingenuity but I believe that God gave us molten salts just to test that thesis. If there is ever a Molten Salt Club, and Englishmen love clubs, its membership will be exclusive. It would certainly include the authors of this series. Graham Hills University of Strathclyde ix Preface In the first volume of this series, we expressed our contention that a real need existed for practical guidance in the field of molten salt experimentation.

This book was released on 2005-10-11 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is another in the series of IUPAC sponsored monographs that summarize the state of knowledge with respect to experimental techniques in thermochemistry and thermodynamics. Following volume VI, Measurement of Thermodynamic Properties of Single Phases, VI, this book contains descriptions of recent developments in the techniques for measurement of thermodynamic quantities for multiple phases of pure fluids as well mixtures over a wide range of conditions. The precision and accuracy of results obtained from each method was regarded as an essential element in each description. Throughout the text, the quantities, units and symbols are those defined by IUPAC for use in the international community. Measurement of Thermodynamic Properties of Multiple Phases, Volume VII is an invaluable reference source to researchers and graduate students. - Describes the latest techniques for studying multiple phases of pure component systems, using quantities, units and symbols as defined by IUPAC for use in the international community - Illustrates the measurement techniques to obtain activity coefficients, interfacial tension and critical parameters - An invaluable reference source to researchers and graduate students

Download or read book Corrosion of Metals and Hydrogen Related Phenomena written by J. Flis and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-01-11 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is estimated that about 40% of the annual production of metals is used to repair or replace materials damaged by corrosion. Corrosion causes waste of the natural material and energy resources, it creates serious materials problems for many technologies and adversely affects almost every area of engineering. The use of metals in various aggressive environments has resulted in an extremely wide diversity of corrosion problems. This book presents a collection of concise reviews written by experts in the field on selected topics of metallic corrosion and on some aspects of interaction of hydrogen with metals. A comprehensive range of problems is examined including localized corrosion, high temperature corrosion in liquid metals and molten salts, transport control in corrosion processes, entry of hydrogen into metals, hydrogen embrittlement, and hydrogen reactions with metals. The variety of topics covered in the book will provide corrosion scientists, engineers, university lecturers and students alike with an interdisciplinary approach to solving problems of materials degradation and surface processes in metal corrosion.

Download or read book Materials and Processes for CO2 Capture Conversion and Sequestration written by Lan Li and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-06-29 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addresses materials, technology, and products that could help solve the global environmental crisis once commercialized This multidisciplinary book encompasses state-of-the-art research on the topics of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), and complements existing CCS technique publications with the newest research and reviews. It discusses key challenges involved in the CCS materials design, processing, and modeling and provides in-depth coverage of solvent-based carbon capture, sorbent-based carbon capture, membrane-based carbon capture, novel carbon capture methods, computational modeling, carbon capture materials including metal organic frameworks (MOF), electrochemical capture and conversion, membranes and solvents, and geological sequestration. Materials and Processes for CO2 Capture, Conversion and Sequestration offers chapters on: Carbon Capture in Metal-Organic Frameworks; Metal Organic Frameworks Materials for Post-Combustion CO2 Capture; New Progress of Microporous Metal-Organic Frameworks in CO2 Capture and Separation; In Situ Diffraction Studies of Selected Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) Materials for Guest Capture Applications; Electrochemical CO2 Capture and Conversion; Electrochemical Valorization of Carbon Dioxide in Molten Salts; Microstructural and Structural Characterization of Materials for CO2 Storage using Multi-Scale X-Ray Scattering Methods; Contribution of Density Functional Theory to Microporous Materials for Carbon Capture; and Computational Modeling Study of MnO2 Octahedral Molecular Sieves for Carbon Dioxide Capture Applications. Addresses one of the most pressing concerns of society—that of environmental damage caused by the greenhouse gases emitted as we use fossil fuels Covers cutting-edge capture technology with a focus on materials and technology rather than regulation and cost Highlights the common and novel CCS materials that are of greatest interest to industrial researchers Provides insight into CCS materials design, processing characterization, and computer modeling Materials and Processes for CO2 Capture, Conversion and Sequestration is ideal for materials scientists and engineers, energy scientists and engineers, inorganic chemists, environmental scientists, pollution control scientists, and carbon chemists.
