Book Thermal Warm Fog Dissipation

Download or read book Thermal Warm Fog Dissipation written by Alan I. Weinstein and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climatological records of fog occurrence and wind characteristics in fog are used to design a passive ground-based heat system for the dispersal of warm fog at Travis AFB, California. The array of heat sources is patterned after that described by FIDO engineers for parallel winds. The burner array shape is similar to an elongated horseshoe that encloses the upwind end of the runway, with the parallel legs 450 ft apart terminating 240 ft short of a 700-ft-long cross leg. An analysis of air traffic records in combination with fog statistics indicates that the system could be used to aid approximately 900 (2600) landings and takeoffs in an average (extreme) year during the fog-plagued months from November to February. Assuming a burn time of five minutes per landing or takeoff, the heaters could be expected to operate approximately 75 (260) h and consume approximately eleven (48) million gallons of fuel in an average (extreme) year. During the time the system is operating it generates heat at a rate of approximately 10 billion BTU/h. (Author).

Book Area dosage Relationships and Time of Tracer Arrival in the Green Glow Program

Download or read book Area dosage Relationships and Time of Tracer Arrival in the Green Glow Program written by William P. Elliott and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An empirical relationship between the area in which a given dosage is equalled or exceeded and the value of the dosage itself are developed using Green Glow data. It is found that the logarithm of the area is nearly a linear function of the logarithm of the dosage divided by the source strength and multiplied by a representative wind speed. These results differ only slightly from similar results obtained from Prairie Grass data. Observations of the time of first arrival of the tracer near ground level at distances of 8 and 16 miles from the source indicate that the tracer material which first arrives has travelled with a wind speed greater than the surface wind (about 15 ft). It would be necessary to have wind speed measurements between 50 and 100 ft above ground in order to estimate the time of first arrival at these distances even though the source is no higher than 15 ft.

Book Celestial Background Radiation

Download or read book Celestial Background Radiation written by Russell G. Walker and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A short review is given of the literature pertinent to the bolometric correction. A recommended scale of bolometric corrections is presented based upon recent model atmospheres for stars of early spectral type, and upon stellar energy distributions synthesized from photoelectric observations of stars later than FO V. The reduction of various photoelectrically determined magnitude and color systems to a common system and the further reduction of these measurements to absolute energy units is discussed in some detail.
