Book Thermal Stability of Nanocrystalline Nickel Electrodeposited from an Additive free Electrolyte

Download or read book Thermal Stability of Nanocrystalline Nickel Electrodeposited from an Additive free Electrolyte written by Charles Soong and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thermal stability of nanocrystalline materials has been studied extensively in recent years for a wide spectrum of materials. Specifically, electrodeposited nanocrystalline nickels has shown dramatic sensitivity in its growth behaviour to sulphur impurity concentrations in the range of hundred parts per million. In the current study, a novel approach to eleetrodeposition utilizing strong mechanical agitation and unusually high pulse deposition current densities was developed to produce nanocrystalline nickel with low sulphur content from an additive-free electrolyte. Inductively coupled plasma analysis showed that the sulphur impurity content was less than 10 ppm. Isothermal heat treatments of this material at three annealing temperatures of 285°C, 350°C and 450°C showed no strong evidence of abnormal grain growth, a growth form observed in many past studies on sulphur-containing nanocrystalline nickel. The microstructure evolution was classified via the introduction of log-time distribution histograms, and cumulative volume fraction diagrams. The activation energy and kinetics for grain growth was determined.

Nanomaterials and nanocomposites can be used as effective alternative corrosion inhibitors in the place of traditional environmentally toxic substances. This book provides readers with an overview of the properties and applications of nanomaterials and nanocomposites as corrosion inhibitors. Chapters first cover the basics of nanomaterials and the features that make them useful candidates, before highlighting recent advances from across the field for industry-oriented challenges. With a focus on cutting-edge research, this book is a valuable resource for chemists, chemical engineers, material scientists and environmental chemists in both academia and industry who want to learn more about corrosion inhibitors and mechanisms.

Book Recrystallization and Related Annealing Phenomena

Download or read book Recrystallization and Related Annealing Phenomena written by F.J. Humphreys and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The annealing of deformed materials is of both technological importance and scientific interest. The phenomena have been most widely studied in metals, although they occur in all crystalline materials such as the natural deformation of rocks and the processing of technical ceramics. Research is mainly driven by the requirements of industry, and where appropriate, the book discusses the extent to which we are able to formulate quantitative, physically-based models which can be applied to metal-forming processes. The subjects treated in this book are all active research areas, and form a major part of at least four regular international conference series. However, there have only been two monographs published in recent times on the subject of recrystallization, the latest nearly 20 years ago. Since that time, considerable advances have been made, both in our understanding of the subject and in the techniques available to the researcher. The book covers recovery, recrystallization and grain growth in depth including specific chapters on ordered materials, two-phase alloys, annealing textures and annealing during and after hot working. Also contained are treatments of the deformed state and the structure and mobility of grain boundaries, technologically important examples and a chapter on computer simulation and modelling. The book provides a scientific treatment of the subject for researchers or students in Materials Science, Metallurgy and related disciplines, who require a more detailed coverage than is found in textbooks on physical metallurgy, and a more coherent treatment than will be found in the many conference proceedings and review articles.

Book Transmission Electron Microscopy

Download or read book Transmission Electron Microscopy written by C. Barry Carter and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-24 with total page 543 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text is a companion volume to Transmission Electron Microscopy: A Textbook for Materials Science by Williams and Carter. The aim is to extend the discussion of certain topics that are either rapidly changing at this time or that would benefit from more detailed discussion than space allowed in the primary text. World-renowned researchers have contributed chapters in their area of expertise, and the editors have carefully prepared these chapters to provide a uniform tone and treatment for this exciting material. The book features an unparalleled collection of color figures showcasing the quality and variety of chemical data that can be obtained from today’s instruments, as well as key pitfalls to avoid. As with the previous TEM text, each chapter contains two sets of questions, one for self assessment and a second more suitable for homework assignments. Throughout the book, the style follows that of Williams & Carter even when the subject matter becomes challenging—the aim is always to make the topic understandable by first-year graduate students and others who are working in the field of Materials Science Topics covered include sources, in-situ experiments, electron diffraction, Digital Micrograph, waves and holography, focal-series reconstruction and direct methods, STEM and tomography, energy-filtered TEM (EFTEM) imaging, and spectrum imaging. The range and depth of material makes this companion volume essential reading for the budding microscopist and a key reference for practicing researchers using these and related techniques.
