Book Physical Test Methods for Elastomers

Download or read book Physical Test Methods for Elastomers written by Roger Brown and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-18 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides comprehensive coverage of all aspects of physical testing of elastomers (rubbers and thermoplastic elastomers) including mechanical, electrical, thermal and all aspects of durability. Elastomers are an important class of materials used in such products as tyres, seals and hose which have markedly different properties to other materials. The importance of testing of elastomers means that a comprehensive text on the subject is essential. The advantage over general materials testing books is being more specific while the advantage over general rubber technology books is that testing is dealt with in depth.

Book Heat and Mass Transfer in Building Energy Performance Assessment

Download or read book Heat and Mass Transfer in Building Energy Performance Assessment written by Robert Černý and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-12-03 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The building industry is influenced by many factors and trends reflecting the current situation and developments in social, economic, technical, and scientific fields. One of the most important trends seeks to minimize the energy demand. This can be achieved by promoting the construction of buildings with better thermal insulating capabilities of their envelopes and better efficiency in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Any credible assessment of building energy performance includes the identification and simulation of heat and mass transfer phenomena in both the building envelope and the interior of the building. As the interaction between design elements, climate change, user behavior, heating effectiveness, ventilation, air conditioning systems, and lighting is not straightforward, the assessment procedure can present a complex and challenging task. The simulations should then involve all factors affecting the energy performance of the building in questions. However, the appropriate choice of physical model of heat and mass transfer for different building elements is not the only factor affecting the output of building energy simulations. The accuracy of the material parameters applied in the models as input data is another potential source of uncertainty. For instance, neglecting the dependence of hygric and thermal parameters on moisture content may affect the energy assessment in a significant way. Boundary conditions in the form of weather data sets represent yet another crucial factor determining the uncertainty of the outputs. In light of recent trends in climate change, this topic is vitally important. This Special Issue aims at providing recent developments in laboratory analyses, computational modeling, and in situ measurements related to the assessment of building energy performance based on the proper identification of heat and mass transfer processes in building structures. Potential topics include but are not limited to the following: -Development, calibration, and validation of advanced mathematical models for the description of heat and mass transfer in building materials and structures -Computational modeling of heat and mass transfer in building materials and structures aimed at energy performance assessment Boundary conditions for building energy performance simulations in light of climate change trends -Advanced experimental techniques for the determination of heat and mass transport and the storage properties of building materials -On site monitoring and verification of building energy performance -Research and development of new materials with high potential to improve the energy performance of buildings

Book Hygrothermal Numerical Simulation Tools Applied to Building Physics

Download or read book Hygrothermal Numerical Simulation Tools Applied to Building Physics written by João M.P.Q. Delgado and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-15 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a critical review on the development and application of hygrothermal analysis methods to simulate the coupled transport processes of Heat, Air, and Moisture (HAM) transfer for one or multidimensional cases. During the past few decades there has been relevant development in this field of study and an increase in the professional use of tools that simulate some of the physical phenomena that are involved in Heat, Air and Moisture conditions in building components or elements. Although there is a significant amount of hygrothermal models referred in the literature, the vast majority of them are not easily available to the public outside the institutions where they were developed, which restricts the analysis of this book to only 14 hygrothermal modelling tools. The special features of this book are (a) a state-of-the-art of numerical simulation tools applied to building physics, (b) the boundary conditions importance, (c) the material properties, namely, experimental methods for the measurement of relevant transport properties, and (d) the numerical investigation and application The main benefit of the book is that it discusses all the topics related to numerical simulation tools in building components (including state-of-the-art and applications) and presents some of the most important theoretical and numerical developments in building physics, providing a self-contained major reference that is appealing to both the scientists and the engineers. At the same time, this book will be going to the encounter of a variety of scientific and engineering disciplines, such as civil and mechanical engineering, architecture, etc... The book is divided in several chapters that intend to be a resume of the current state of knowledge for benefit of professional colleagues.

Book Physical Testing of Rubber

Download or read book Physical Testing of Rubber written by Roger Brown and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-03-06 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rubber is important in many engineering applications because of its unique properties. These properties must be measured with appropriate test methods developed specifically for this class of materials. This book provides, in one volume, comprehensive coverage of the procedures for measuring the whole range of the physical properties of rubber. This new edition presents an up-to-date introduction to the standard methods used for testing, quality control analysis, product evaluation, and production of design data for rubber and elastomers. Factors to be incorporated in the revision include the effects of newer instrumentation, the cutting back of laboratory staff, increased demands for formal accreditation and calibration, trend to product testing, overlap of thermoplastic elastomers with plastics and increased need for design data.
