Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dramatic power outages in North America, and the threat of a similar crisis in Europe, have made the planning and maintenance of the electrical power grid a newsworthy topic. Most books on transmission and distribution electrical engineering are student texts that focus on theory, brief overviews, or specialized monographs. Colin Bayliss and Brian Hardy have produced a unique and comprehensive handbook aimed squarely at the engineers and planners involved in all aspects of getting electricity from the power plant to the user via the power grid. The resulting book is an essential read, and a hard-working reference for all engineers, technicians, managers and planners involved in electricity utilities, and related areas such as generation, and industrial electricity usage.* An essential read and hard*working ref

Book Thermal Properties of Nanofluids

Download or read book Thermal Properties of Nanofluids written by Taher Armaghani and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-11-13 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermal Properties of Nanofluids presents emerging prospects for understanding and controlling thermophysical properties at the nanoscale. It covers a comprehensive study of recent progress concerning these properties from the solid state to colloids and, above all, a different look at the effect of temperature on nanofluids’ thermal conducting. Introducing various techniques for measuring solid-state properties, including thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, and specific heat capacity, this book presents modeling approaches developed for predicting these properties by molecular dynamic (MD) simulations. It discusses the main factors that affect solid-state properties, such as grain size, grain boundaries, surface interactions, doping, and temperature, and the effects of all these factors. This book will interest industry professionals and academic researchers studying the thermophysical behavior of nanomaterials and heat transfer applications of nanofluids. It will serve graduate engineering students studying advanced fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and nanomaterials.

Book The Materials Selector Second Edition

Download or read book The Materials Selector Second Edition written by N. Waterman and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-09-06 with total page 2675 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the increased understanding we now have of materials and their properties, selecting materials for a given application remains a daunting, non-trivial task. The volume of data, inadequacies in the data, and the tens of thousands of materials to choose from can overwhelm the would-be user. The Materials Selector addresses all the problems faced by materials scientists and engineers. In its three volumes you will find the properties, performance, and processability of metals, plastics, carbon and graphite, glasses, ceramics, polymerics, and composites. The characteristics and comparative economics of the manufacturing routes that convert these materials into engineering components.

Book Integrated Electricity Resource Planning

Download or read book Integrated Electricity Resource Planning written by A. de Almeida and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 531 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the mid-seventies, electric utilities were faced with escalating construction costs, growing environmental plus siting constraints and increasing uncertainty in demand forecasting. To cope with the increasing demand for energy services, utilities can either invest in supply-side options (new generation, transmission and distribution facilities) or in demand-side options. Demand-side options include, policies, programmes, innovative pricing schemes and high-efficiency end-use equipment (equipment providing the same or better level of services but using less energy or peak power). Recent experience in both North America and Europe show that demand-side options are usually cheaper and less damaging from the environmental point of view, and also their potential can be tapped in a shorter term than other supply-side options. This workshop was directed at the discussion and analysis of cost-effective methodologies to achieve the supply of electric energy services at minimum cost and minimum environmental impact. The programme included new developments in power planning models which can integrate both supply-side and demand-side actions. Quantitative assessments of the environmental impact of different supply-demand strategies were analyzed. Planning models which deal with uncertainty and use multicriteria approaches were presented. Case studies and experiments with, innovative concepts carried out by utilities in several countries were discussed. Load modelling and evaluation of demad-side programmes was analyzed. Additionally, the potential for electricity savings in the industrial, commercial and residential sectors was presented. New research directions covering planning models, programmes and end-use technologies were identified.

Book Powerline Ampacity System

Download or read book Powerline Ampacity System written by Anjan K. Deb and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Civilization's demands for electricity continue to grow, yet environmental, regulatory, and economic constraints often preclude the construction of new power plants and transmission lines. The challenge now faced by engineers, equipment manufacturers, and regulatory agencies is to find ways to maximize the capacity of existing power lines. Powerline Ampacity System is the first step in meeting that challenge. Along with developing a complete theory of transmission line ampacity, the author uses object-oriented modeling and expert rules to build a power line ampacity system. He describes new transmission line conductor technologies and power electronics FACTS devices that can take full advantage of a dynamic line rating system. He offers examples that clearly show the economic benefit of operating an interconnected transmission network that has a diverse mix of electricity generation sources. He also discusses - with examples - generator stability enhancement by dynamic line rating.

Book Introduction to the Electronic Properties of Materials

Download or read book Introduction to the Electronic Properties of Materials written by David C. Jiles and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-21 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electronic materials provide the basis for many high tech industries that have changed rapidly in recent years. In this fully revised and updated second edition, the author discusses the range of available materials and their technological applications. Introduction to the Electronic Properties of Materials, 2nd Edition presents the principles of the behavior of electrons in materials and develops a basic understanding with minimal technical detail. Broadly based, it touches on all of the key issues in the field and offers a multidisciplinary approach spanning physics, electrical engineering, and materials science. It provides an understanding of the behavior of electrons within materials, how electrons determine the magnetic thermal, optical and electrical properties of materials, and how electronic properties are controlled for use in technological applications. Although some mathematics is essential in this area, the mathematics that is used is easy to follow and kept to an appropriate level for the reader. An excellent introductory text for undergraduate students, this book is a broad introduction to the topic and provides a careful balance of information that will be appropriate for physicists, materials scientists, and electrical engineers.
