Download or read book Therapeutic Psalm s written by Michael Y. Obeng and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2011-01-13 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These poems show how God has preserved and allowed me to seek Him with all of my heart, soul, mind, will, and body. Many things have occurred in my life and by the grace and love of God, I have gained wisdom and understanding regarding my past, present, and future. There was a certain knowledge about my life that I have discovered through my love for reading and experience. I do not know what exactly is going to happen in the future, but whatever may come in my way, I will understand why. The Bible is right when it teaches that mankind is full of wickedness and how the natural man or woman seeks not God. Mankind is not perfect; therefore, mankind cannot please God with all of its terrible efforts and self-righteousness. The gospel of John, chapter 3:16 promises anyone who would trust and depend on Jesus Christ for salvation would have eternal life. Human beings have tried and are still trying to separate me from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus. They know that Jesus Christ is superior to them; therefore, they want to belittle the gospel and the person of Jesus Christ. How could anyone fight with omnipotent God and win?

Download or read book Praying Curses written by Daniel Nehrbass and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2013-06-21 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Public reading of the psalms facilitates corporate worship, but it can also create a degree of awkwardness as a number of passages in the Psalter contain curses, asking God to avenge enemies. The presence of vengeful speech seems antithetical to Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. What are these psalms really about? This book recovers the value of imprecatory speech in Scripture, arguing that such passages continue to be relevant today, both in preaching and therapy. The interpretive model Nehrbass suggests is that of dependence: these psalms transfer the burden of one's enemies to God and affirm that it is God's prerogative alone to avenge. The authors of the imprecatory psalms were victims of violence, so this book looks to contemporary victims of violence for their interpretation and application of these psalms. This study is decidedly practical. Nehrbass examines the nature of anger and hatred and highlights some of the redemptive aspects of these emotions. He concludes that the imprecatory psalms offer several positive aspects for dealing with hatred. Use of these passages fosters in believers a passion for God's reputation and can also aid us in surrendering our problems to God's control.

Download or read book A Theology of Biblical Counseling written by Heath Lambert and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2016-04-05 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the beginning of the biblical counseling movement in 1970, biblical counselors have argued that counseling is a ministry of the Word, just like preaching or missions. As a ministry, counseling must be defined according to sound biblical theology rather than secular principles of psychology. For over four decades, biblical theology has been at the core of the biblical counseling movement. Leaders in biblical counseling have emphasized a commitment to teaching doctrine in their counseling courses out of the conviction that good theology leads to good counseling…and bad theology leads to bad counseling. A Theology of Biblical Counseling is a landmark new book that covers the history of the biblical counseling movement, the core convictions that underlie sound counseling, and practical wisdom for counseling today. Dr. Heath Lambert shows how biblical counseling is rooted in the Scriptures while illustrating the real challenges counselors face today through true stories from the counseling room. A substantive textbook written in accessible language, it is an ideal resource for use in training biblical counselors at colleges, seminaries, and training institutes. In each chapter, doctrine comes to life in real ministry to real people, dramatically demonstrating how theology intersects with the lives of actual counselees.

Download or read book The Bible in Africa written by Gerald West and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-10-01 with total page 846 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the arrival of the Bible in Africa has often been a tale of terror, the Bible has become an African book. This volume explores the many ways in which Africans have made the Bible their own. The essays in this book offer a glimpse of the rich resources that constitute Africa's engagement with the Bible. Among the topics are: the historical development of biblical interpretation in Africa, the relationship between African biblical scholarship and scholarship in the West, African resources for reading the Bible, the history and role of vernacular translation in particular African contexts, the ambiguity of the Bible in Africa, the power of the Bible as text and symbol, and the intersections between class, race, gender, and culture in African biblical interpretation. The book also contains an extensive bibliography of African biblical scholarship. In fact, it is one of the most comprehensive collections of African biblical scholarship available in print. This publication has also been published in paperback, please click here for details.

Download or read book Explorations in African Biblical Studies written by David T. Adamo and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2001-06-29 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finally I have managed to read the Manuscript of your book, Exploration in African Biblical Studies. I read it with much and personal interest. You have taken up a set of very interesting and important issues, which relate directly to the theological tasks of the Church in Africa. I appreciate the contributions you are making in this area - informative, challenging and stimulating. They show a good grasp of Biblical knowledge, so that you speak with a good measure of authority. As the book is a collection of essays, each would need to be judged on its own merit. There is no clear flowing link between them, so as to form a unit. I liked especially your treatment of African Cultural Hermeneutics. This area has not received much attention and your essay would be instrumental in opening the way in that direction. I do not feel so comfortable about the essay dealing with African-American Hermeneutics. My general feeling is that this is an area for African Americans to handle, just as areas dealing directly with Africa should be left to us to tackle. The essay on Cush-Africa in the Old Testament is fascinating and informative. You have made a very good case, which, among other things, demolishes the Anti-Africa attitude of many Western scholars. What you have demonstrated here should be said a hundred times over, and be said in the great centres of Biblical study the world over. Professor J. S. Mbiti, Germany
Download or read book Finding God written by Thomas Griffith Lewis and published by Westminster John Knox Press. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this small yet immensely helpful guide, pastor Thomas Lewis offers spiritual resources for the many persons today suffering from depression. By turning his readers toward praying the Psalms, as he did in his own battle with depression, Lewis assists those seeking hope and a healing touch to find, in his words, "a cup of cold water in parched land." He speaks frankly about his own battle with deep depression; discusses the types of depression, the symptoms, and where to get help; and then lays out several Psalms of lament that can support people in times of depression and form a foundation for all other approaches to treating the illness. This book will prove to be an invaluable resource for those engaged in pastoral care and counseling, for those who have loved ones suffering from depression, and persons suffering from depression themselves.
