Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Astrology includes many things, has many forms, and serves multiple purposes. Taking just three common examples, typical astrological charts show the positions and relations of the planets at the moment and location of birth. Progressed astrology maps the return of planets to their birth positions as well as the times and ways they cross and relate to those original positions and to one another. And horary astrology looks at the positions of the planets in the zodiac at a given moment when some decision is to be made (e.g., when to lay the foundation stone of a temple). And then there is the astrology once commonly found in newspapers, where planets were taken in conjunction with the signs of the zodiac to give general indications of what to expect for the day, given one's birth sign. This latter was never taken seriously by knowledgeable astrologers, being rather like the sentiments found in fortune cookies ending meals in Chinese restaurants. "People admire your attitude," for example, can apply to anyone's self-image, and so it "works." But such messages are random, and the newspaper's astrological messages each have to be general enough to cover about 1/12 the population, because there are 12 signs in the zodiac. There is much more to any system of astrology than the mechanisms for casting a chart or giving naïve interpretations, as, for example, Mars means conflict, Jupiter wealth or generosity, Mercury intelligence, and so on. Like all sciences, astrology is a complex of symbols and principles of interrelationships. And like all science, astrology is also based on experience and observation. In some ways, astrology is more like medical science than physics, since its variables are often multivalent and context-dependent. And like all sciences, astrology is based on assumptions about the nature of reality and the universe. It shares with all sciences the assumption that there are discoverable laws of nature that are invariant, at least over long periods of time. It shares the assumption that nature and the universe is intelligible to a reasoning, observing consciousness.

Book The Zodiac and the Soul

Download or read book The Zodiac and the Soul written by Charles E.O. Carter and published by Astrology Classics. This book was released on 2010-05 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Charles Carter (1887-1968) shows how the Zodiac of twelve constellations describes an ideal world. In other words, how the soul - the ideal - reveals itself in astrological terms. In the process, Carter invents a new form of rulerships, based on the traditional exaltations, which includes the outer planets. Carter also teases us with his unpublished system of numerology, which was based on 12, rather than the usual 10. As astrology is based around the numbers 2, 3, 4 and 12 (not 5 or 10), a base-12 number system is of immediate interest. Realizing his subject was abstract and unlikely to appeal to all, Carter also includes innovative ideas on directing, and on transits. The result is a book that fascinates on many levels. Charles E.O. Carter, one of the leading astrologers of the 20th century, was President of the Astrological Lodge at the Theosophical Society from 1920 to 1952. He was first Principal of the Faculty of Astrological Studies, which he helped found in 1948. He edited The Astrologer's Quarterly from 1926 until 1959. The Zodiac and the Soul was first published in 1928, with revisions in 1947, 1960, and 1968, the year of his death.

Book The Astrology of Relationship

Download or read book The Astrology of Relationship written by Michael R. Meyer and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2000-01-20 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of all the branches of astrology, it is probably "synastry" – the technique of comparing the birth charts of two or more persons – that most fascinates those who practice astrology today. This is the first book to deal thoroughly with the basic purpose and techniques of chart comparison in clear, contemporary terms. Going beyond the simplistic popular methods which compare only sun signs, Michael Meyer's humanistic approach to synastry offers a responsible tool for understanding the mutually constructive aspects of any relationship. The Astrology of Relationship introduces the concept of "relationship" with a brief overview of its place in traditional astrological practice and its relation to certain Eastern Philosophical concepts. Explaining the significance of planets, houses and signs in determining personal compatibility, Meyer offers a step-by-step technique for chart comparison, including full instructions for casting and interpreting zodiacal contact, house contact, and composite charts. To demonstrate the methods described, the book concludes with synastric analyses of three important relationships in history: Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung; George Sand and Frederic Chopin; and founders of the Theosophical Society, Madame Blavatsky and Henry Olcott. Michael R. Meyer is the author of A Handbook for the Humanistic Astrologer and The Astrology of Change: Horary Astrology and its Humanistic Applications.

Book Soul Cycles of the Seven Rays IV

Download or read book Soul Cycles of the Seven Rays IV written by Phillip Lindsay and published by . This book was released on 2019-03-21 with total page 574 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the fourth volume of the series, Soul Cycles of the Seven Rays, whose essays range over a variety of zodiac sign perspectives from Aries through to Pisces, esoterically considered. Esoteric Astrology is the Science of the Seven Rays, hence the rays, signs and planets are mentioned frequently as the conditioning influences upon Earth and all the entities contained therein, whether they are individuals, groups, cities, nations or kingdoms. The Science of Cycles is also another factor that is incorporated, along with the Science of Initiation, a sub-science of Esoteric Astrology. The author always endeavours to make practical this sometimes very abstruse science, hence there are many references to current world events such as the Germanwings tragedy, the twelve spiritual festivals corresponding to the zodiac signs, the themes of glamour, maya and illusion, music and art, natural disasters; Shamballa, global transformation, the nuclear age, initiation, extreme sports, famous personalities, right human relationships, the digital revolution, environmental issues, human crises, healing, the role of fixed stars, sexuality, the solstices and equinoxes.
