Book The Theories of Chemistry

Download or read book The Theories of Chemistry written by Jan C.A. Boeyens and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-11-24 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theories of Chemistry reviews the theories that underpin chemistry, but yet are not traditionally recognized as such, being normally considered as part of physics. Based on the argument that the needs of chemistry are distinctive, a mathematical structure of topics such as quantum mechanics, relativity theory, thermodynamics and statistical mechanics, suiting the needs of chemistry, is outlined. The subject matter is arranged in a sequence that reveals the foundations of chemistry. Starting from the mathematical basis, the sequence runs through the general concepts (mechanics and wave formalism) and the elementary building blocks, to molecules and macrosystems. The book is the product of the author's reading of original literature rather than of standard texts. It differs from what is conventionally emphasized because of the different approach that it argues for the recognition of chemistry as an emergent discipline, ultimately based on the properties and structure of space and time. Hence the emphasis on otherwise unexpected topics such as quaternions, lie groups, polarized light, compressed atoms, rydberg atoms, solitons, molecular hydrogen, and phase transitions, amongst others. The topic is the understanding of chemistry from first principles. The book is self-contained and can be used without reference to other sources. - All chemisty theories are covered in this one volume. - The book is self-contained and can be used without reference to other sources. - Many topics, routinely referred to in advanced chemistry texts, without making them accessible to the non-specialist, are brought together.

Book History of Analytical Chemistry

Download or read book History of Analytical Chemistry written by Ferenc Szabadváry and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-01-22 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: History of Analytical Chemistry is a systematic account of the historical development of analytical chemistry spanning about 4,000 years. Many scientists who have helped to develop the methods of analytical chemistry are mentioned. Various methods of analysis are discussed, including electrogravimetry, optical methods, electrometric analysis, radiochemical analysis, and chromatography. This volume is comprised of 14 chapters and begins with an overview of analytical chemistry in ancient Greece, the origin of chemistry, and the earliest knowledge of analysis. The next chapter focuses on analytical chemistry during the Middle Ages, with emphasis on alchemy. Analytical knowledge during the period of iatrochemistry and the development of analytical chemistry during the phlogiston period are then examined. Subsequent chapters deal with the development of the fundamental laws of chemistry, including the principle of the indestructibility of matter; analytical chemistry during the period of Berzelius; and developments in qualitative and gravimetric analysis. Elementary organic analysis is also considered, along with the development of the theory of analytical chemistry. This book will be helpful to chemists as well as students and researchers in the field of analytical chemistry.

Book A Treatise on Chemistry and Chemical Analysis Vol 1

Download or read book A Treatise on Chemistry and Chemical Analysis Vol 1 written by UNKNOWN. AUTHOR and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-16 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on Chemistry and Chemical Analysis, Vol. 1: Prepared for Students of the International Correspondence Schools, Scranton, Pa; Arithmetic, Elementary Algebra and Trigonometric, Functions, Physics, Theoretical Chemistry, With Practical Questions and Examples In the first five of the six volumes composing this set are included all the Instruction and Question Papers used in our Course in Chemistry, including Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis; they give in a clear and concise form not only the theory, but also the practical applications of chemistry and chemical analysis. These volumes constitute a valuable work of reference in connection with the innumerable problems so frequently met with in analytical chemistry and in the manufacturing industries. The subject of Inorganic Chemistry is very thoroughly covered, and we have introduced a number of simple experiments that will serve to illustrate the text and render the student familiar with the manipulation and use of the apparatus most frequently employed. That portion of the Course dealing with Organic Chemistry has been so arranged as to render evident the relations existing between the various classes of compounds; for this reason the usual practice of treating the fatty and aromatic derivatives separately has not been adopted, the compounds of both classes being considered together in their appropriate places. The papers treating on Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis have been prepared with great care; the student who thoroughly studies the text and performs the analyses required will be able to make all the analyses usually performed by analytical chemists.
