Book Nuclear Fusion and Fission

Download or read book Nuclear Fusion and Fission written by Fiona Young-Brown and published by Cavendish Square Publishing, LLC. This book was released on 2016-07-15 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear Fusion and Fission delves into nuclear physics and the scientists responsible for the discovery of splitting and fusing an atom. The book begins with the very basic building blocks of science, breaking down the different types of energy and how we use them, the materials that make up an atom, and our search for the perfect renewable energy source. Set against the cultural backdrop of World War II, later chapters follow each significant theory that led to the creation of the world’s most dangerous weapon as well as some of its most widely used medical and food production processes today.

Book Unravelling the Mystery of the Atomic Nucleus

Download or read book Unravelling the Mystery of the Atomic Nucleus written by Bernard Fernandez and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-28 with total page 541 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unravelling the Mystery of the Atomic Nucleus is a history of atomic and nuclear physics. It begins in 1896 with the discovery of radioactivity, which leads to the discovery of the nucleus at the center of the atom. It follows the experimental discoveries and the theoretical developments up to the end of the Fifties. Unlike previous books regarding on history of nuclear physics, this book methodically describes how advances in technology enabled physicists to probe the physical properties of nuclei as well as how the physical laws which govern these microscopic systems were progressively discovered. The reader will gain a clear understanding of how theory is inextricably intertwined with the progress of technology. Unravelling the Mystery of the Atomic Nucleus will be of interest to physicists and to historians of physics, as well as those interested development of science.

Book Nuclear Physics

    Book Details:
  • Author : National Research Council
  • Publisher : National Academies Press
  • Release : 1999-03-31
  • ISBN : 0309173663
  • Pages : 222 pages

Download or read book Nuclear Physics written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1999-03-31 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dramatic progress has been made in all branches of physics since the National Research Council's 1986 decadal survey of the field. The Physics in a New Era series explores these advances and looks ahead to future goals. The series includes assessments of the major subfields and reports on several smaller subfields, and preparation has begun on an overview volume on the unity of physics, its relationships to other fields, and its contributions to national needs. Nuclear Physics is the latest volume of the series. The book describes current activity in understanding nuclear structure and symmetries, the behavior of matter at extreme densities, the role of nuclear physics in astrophysics and cosmology, and the instrumentation and facilities used by the field. It makes recommendations on the resources needed for experimental and theoretical advances in the coming decade.

Book The Atomic Nucleus as a Relativistic System

Download or read book The Atomic Nucleus as a Relativistic System written by Lev N. Savushkin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Relativity plays an important role in atomic nuclei, and, since the early 1970s, there has been increasing interest in, and literature on, the nucleus as a relativistic system. In fact, the relativistic treatment provides a powerful method to describe nuclear structure and reactions. It is thus an ideal time to collect and review the important landmarks in this book. Directed to advanced students and researchers, it explains both the underlying relativistic theory and compares predictions with actual experiments.

  • Pages : 686 pages

Download or read book Physics of Atomic Nuclei written by Vladimir Zelevinsky and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-06-19 with total page 686 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This advanced textbook presents an extensive and diverse study of low-energy nuclear physics considering the nucleus as a quantum system of strongly interacting constituents. The contents guide students from the basic facts and ideas to more modern topics including important developments over the last 20 years, resulting in a comprehensive collection of major modern-day nuclear models otherwise unavailable in the current literature. The book emphasizes the common features of the nucleus and other many-body mesoscopic systems currently in the center of interest in physics. The authors have also included full problem sets that can be selected by lecturers and adjusted to specific interests for more advanced students, with many chapters containing links to freely available computer code. As a result, readers are equipped for scientific work in mesoscopic physics.

Book The History of Nuclear Power Revised Edition

Download or read book The History of Nuclear Power Revised Edition written by James Mahaffey and published by Infobase Holdings, Inc. This book was released on 2020-03-01 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discovery and application of nuclear power is one of the most profound scientific accomplishments of the 20th century, beginning with tentative explorations of the structure of matter, expanding into a rapid succession of unexpected discoveries, and finally settling into a seamless transition from theoretical science to applied engineering. There were many changes to nuclear power during this century—science transitioned from an academic pursuit to an industry, the use of uranium changed from an occasional orange or green dye in ceramics to major power-fuel, and public safety concerns shifted from boiler explosions on steamboats to nuclear reactor explosions on continents. Written in clear and accessible language, The History of Nuclear Power, Revised Edition describes the sequence of these changes, as science and technology rapidly matured more than a hundred years and as the scale of civilization and its energy needs expanded. Providing a fundamental introduction to this complicated subject, this updated, full-color resource is ideal for high school and college students interested in the future through a study of the past.

Book Theory of Nucleus

  • Author : A. Sitenko
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 9401157723
  • Pages : 630 pages

Download or read book Theory of Nucleus written by A. Sitenko and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 630 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern nuclear physics is a well developed branch of physical science, with wide-ranging applications of its results in engineering and industry. At the same time, the development of a consistent theory of nuclei and nuclear processes presents certain problems. It is well known that the most important aim of nuclear physics is the study of nuclear structure and the explanation of properties on the basis of the interaction between nucleons which constitute nuclei. Difficulties of a modern theory of the nucleus are caused by both an insufficient knowledge of nuclear interactions and the multi particle character of nuclear systems. Experimental data on nuclear interactions do not contradict the hypothesis of the pair character of nuclear forces. However, the absence of rigorous meth ods of calculations of many particle nuclear systems with strong interaction makes it necessary to use macroscopic nuclear models to describe particular nuclear properties. Nuclear models have been developed in different ways, and the models themselves have been modified and complicated. In spite of the visible discrepancy, different models of the nucleus significantly supple ment one another. The development of nuclear models has led to considerable progress in the understanding of atomic nuclei. The current results of theo retical nuclear physics are reported in numerous scientific papers. The most important and relevant experimental and theoretical results can be found in many monographs, the best of which are written by well-known experts in the field.
