Book Asymptotic Theory Of Anisotropic Plates And Shells

Download or read book Asymptotic Theory Of Anisotropic Plates And Shells written by Lenser A Aghalovyan and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2015-03-03 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A consistent theory for thin anisotropic layered structures is developed starting from asymptotic analysis of 3D equations in linear elasticity. The consideration is not restricted to the traditional boundary conditions along the faces of the structure expressed in terms of stresses, originating a new type of boundary value problems, which is not governed by the classical Kirchhoff-Love assumptions. More general boundary value problems, in particular related to elastic foundations are also studied. The general asymptotic approach is illustrated by a number of particular problems for elastic and thermoelastic beams and plates. For the latter, the validity of derived approximate theories is investigated by comparison with associated exact solution. The author also develops an asymptotic approach to dynamic analysis of layered media composed of thin layers motivated by modeling of engineering structures under seismic excitation.

Book Recent Developments in Anisotropic Heterogeneous Shell Theory

Download or read book Recent Developments in Anisotropic Heterogeneous Shell Theory written by Alexander Ya. Grigorenko and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-02 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This brief book presents solutions of stress-strain problems for a wide class of anisotropic inhomogeneous shells obtained by the refined model. Studying these problems results in severe computational difficulties due to partial differential equations with variable coefficients resulting from the constitutive relations of the original model. To solve this problem the book uses spline-collocation and discrete-orthogonalization methods. It analyses the influence of geometrical and mechanical parameters, of various kinds of boundary conditions, and of the loading conditions on the distributions of stress and displacement fields in shallow, spherical, conical, and noncircular cylindrical shells. The dependence of the stress-strain pattern on shell thickness variations is studied. The authors solve the problem also for the case of the thickness varying in two directions. They study how a variation in shell thickness influences the stress-strain state and consider noncircular cylindrical shells with elliptical and corrugated sections are considered. The results obtained during numerous calculations support the efficiency of the discrete-orthogonalization approach proposed in the monograph for solving static problems for anisotropic inhomogeneous shells when using the refined model.

Book An Improved Theory of Anisotropic Shells

Download or read book An Improved Theory of Anisotropic Shells written by S. A. Ambartsumyan and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the work a new, improved theory of anisotropic shells is constructed, based on the following assumptions: (a) in determining given deformations it is considered that the given tangential stress do not differ from the given coressponding stress which are located according to classical theory; (b) deformation given and normal stress given do not differ from the given corresponding values of classical theory. As usual, the shell is related to a triorthogonal system of curvilinear coordinates given. The difference in the proposed theory, as opposed to those known before, consists of the fact that here there is no widespread hypothesis about the independence of given normal motion from coordinate. Book Recent Developments in Anisotropic Heterogeneous Shell Theory

Download or read book Recent Developments in Anisotropic Heterogeneous Shell Theory written by Alexander Ya. Grigorenko and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-02 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These two-partition books present essential approaches to numerical-analytical solutions of problems in the mechanics of shells with various structures and shapes based on refined and spatial models. Further, it examines the mechanical behavior of shallow, circular and noncircular, conical, spherical, and functionally graded shells obtained by the refined model. The book investigates the stress-strain state and free vibrations of finite-length cylinders in spatial formulation (3D elasticity theory). Further, it analyzes the influence of geometrical and mechanical parameters, of boundary conditions, and of the loading character on both the distributions of stress and displacement fields, and on the dynamical characteristics in these shells and cylinders. Lastly, it discusses in detail the validation of reliability for the results obtained by numerical calculations. As such, it complements the first part of the book, the volume Recent Developments in Anisotropic Heterogeneous Shell Theory: Applications of Refined and Three-dimensional Theory.

Book excerpt: Construction of a new refined theory of anisotropic shells not involv-ing the widely held assumption that the normal displacement is inde- pendent of the coordinate of the normal to the middle surface. It is shown that, in contrast to all other refined theories of the class considered, the proposed geometrical model of shell deformation is such that all the displacement components at a given point on the shell depend nonlinearly on the above mentioned coordinate. Book Theory of Multilayer Anisotropic Shells

Book excerpt: The report a system of basic equations was derived for thin shells consisting of a large number of homogeneous anisotropic layers, taking into account deformations of lateral shift. The following assumptions are made: normal stresses on areas parallel to the reference surface are negligible as compared with tangential stresses; normal deflection is constant throughout the thickness of the shell; and the law of stress distribution for lateral shift throughout the thickness of the shell is given.

Book The Behavior of Shells Composed of Isotropic and Composite Materials

Download or read book The Behavior of Shells Composed of Isotropic and Composite Materials written by Jack R. Vinson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1992-01-31 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shell structures are used in all phases of structures, from space vehicles to deep submergence hulls, from nuclear reactors to domes on sport arenas and civic buildings. With new materials and manufacturing methods, curved thin walled structures are being used increasingly. This text is a graduate course in the theory of shells. It covers shells of isotropic materials, such as metal alloys and plastics, and shells of composite materials, such as fibre reinforced polymer, metal or ceramic matrix materials. It provides the essential information for an understanding of the underlying theory, and solution of some of the basic problems. It also provides a basis to study the voluminous shell literature. Beyond being primarily a textbook, it is intended also for self study by practising engineers who would like to learn more about the behaviour of shells. The book has two parts: Part I deals with shells of isotropic materials. In this part the mathematical formulations are introduced involving curvilinear coordinates. The techniques of solutions and resulting behavior is compared to planar thin walled isotropic structures such as plates and beams. Part II then treats the behavior of shells, involving anisotropic composite materials, so widely used today. The analysis involves the complications due to the many elastic constants, effects of transverse shear deformation, thermal thickening and offer effects arising from the properties of composite materials.

Book excerpt: The objective of Volume III is to lay down the proper mathematical foundations of the two-dimensional theory of shells. To this end, it provides, without any recourse to any a priori assumptions of a geometrical or mechanical nature, a mathematical justification of two-dimensional nonlinear and linear shell theories, by means of asymptotic methods, with the thickness as the "small" parameter.

Book Hygro Thermo Magneto Electro Elastic Theory of Anisotropic Doubly Curved Shells

Download or read book Hygro Thermo Magneto Electro Elastic Theory of Anisotropic Doubly Curved Shells written by Francesco Tornabene and published by Società Editrice Esculapio. This book was released on 2023-10-13 with total page 1073 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to present in depth several Higher-order Shear Deformation Theories (HSDTs) by means of a unified approach for studying the Hygro-Thermo-Magneto-Electro- Elastic Theory of Anisotropic Doubly-Curved Shells. In particular, a general coupled multifield theory regarding anisotropic shell structures is provided. The three-dimensional multifield problem is reduced in a two-dimensional one following the principles of the Equivalent Single Layer (ESL) approach and the Equivalent Layer-Wise (ELW) approach, setting a proper configuration model. According to the adopted configuration assumptions, several Higher-order Shear Deformation Theories (HSDTs) are obtained. Furthermore, the strong and weak formulations of the corresponding governing equations are discussed and illustrated. The approach presented in this volume is completely general and represents a valid tool to investigate the physical behavior of many arbitrarily shaped structures. An isogeometric mapping procedure is also illustrated to this aim. Special attention is given also to advanced and innovative constituents, such as Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs), Variable Angle Tow (VAT) composites and Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs). In addition, several numerical applications are used to support the theoretical models. Accurate, efficient and reliable numerical techniques able to approximate both derivatives and integrals are considered, which are respectively the Differential Quadrature (DQ) and Integral Quadrature (IQ) methods. The Theory of Composite Thin Shells is derived in a simple and intuitive manner from the theory of thick and moderately thick shells (First-order Shear Deformation Theory or Reissner- Mindlin Theory). In particular, the Kirchhoff-Love Theory and the Membrane Theory for composite shells are shown. Furthermore, the Theory of Composite Arches and Beams is also exposed. In particular, the equations of the Timoshenko Theory and the Euler-Bernoulli Theory are directly deducted from the equations of singly-curved shells of translation and of plates.
