Volume 9 in the Babbage Reprint Series makes the Moore School Lectures (1946) available for the first time. Delivered by such notable engineers and scientists as J.P. Eckert, J. Mauchly, H. Goldstine, A.W. Burks, and J. von Neumann at the University of Pennsylvania as a direct response to crucial new developments in the design and construction of the early stored program computer, the ENIAC, the lectures provide a comprehensive overview of the history of computing devices and digital and analog computing mechanisms; machine elements, including arithmetic circuits and the Selectron; numerical mathematical methods; and a detailed presentation of the ENIAC, the parallel type EDVAC, and the serial acoustic binary EDVAC.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Knowledge: A little light expels much darkness _ Bahya ibn Paquda, Duties of the Heart During the early 1970s digital computer techniques concentrated on the computational and interfacing aspects of digital systems and the decade began as the age of both the mainframe computer and the minicomputer. Engineers and system designers needed to know the fundamentals of computer operation and how the practical limitations of the architectures of the day, the memory size, cost and performance could be overcome; it was for this reason that this book was first written. By 1980 the microprocessor revolution had arrived. As a result the microprocessor became a component of a system, rather than a system itself, and the need to understand the behaviour of the device became of even greater importance to the system designer. New developments in mainframe computers were few, with networks of minicomputers taking over their role in many instarices. The 1980 revision of this book took into account the major advances in semiconductor technology that had occurred since it was first published in 1972, and included material relevant to the microprocessor.

Book Digital Design for Print and Web

Download or read book Digital Design for Print and Web written by John DiMarco and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-09-19 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The all-inclusive guide—from theory to practice—for print and Web design Any well-conceived print or Web design features the dynamic interplay between visual artistry and technical skill. It becomes important, therefore, for the designer to cultivate an aesthetic eye as well as develop a high degree of computer savvy. By combining basic theory with hands-on technique, Digital Design for Print and Web takes the unique approach of uniting two subjects traditionally approached separately into one complete volume. As a result, you will gain a clearer understanding of the entire creative process, from project management to working with graphics to designing for print and, ultimately, the Web. In this book, you'll find: Full-color text and illustrated, step-by-step instruction supported by more than 75 video tutorials Coverage of professional software including the Adobe Creative Suite A wide variety of inspirational images from well-known designers Online full-length project assignments from entry level to advanced An ideal resource for design students or practitioners, Digital Design for Print and Web will show you to how to create more effectively and guide you on the path toward digital design mastery.

Book Computer Organization and Design Fundamentals

Download or read book Computer Organization and Design Fundamentals written by David L. Tarnoff and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer Organization and Design Fundamentals takes the reader from the basic design principles of the modern digital computer to a top-level examination of its architecture. This book can serve either as a textbook to an introductory course on computer hardware or as the basic text for the aspiring geek who wants to learn about digital design. The material is presented in four parts. The first part describes how computers represent and manipulate numbers. The second part presents the tools used at all levels of binary design. The third part introduces the reader to computer system theory with topics such as memory, caches, hard drives, pipelining, and interrupts. The last part applies these theories through an introduction to the Intel 80x86 architecture and assembly language. The material is presented using practical terms and examples with an aim toward providing anyone who works with computer systems the ability to use them more effectively through a better understanding of their design.

Book Modern Digital Design and Switching Theory

Download or read book Modern Digital Design and Switching Theory written by Eugene D. Fabricius and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-14 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern Digital Design and Switching Theory is an important text that focuses on promoting an understanding of digital logic and the computer programs used in the minimization of logic expressions. Several computer approaches are explained at an elementary level, including the Quine-McCluskey method as applied to single and multiple output functions, the Shannon expansion approach to multilevel logic, the Directed Search Algorithm, and the method of Consensus. Chapters 9 and 10 offer an introduction to current research in field programmable devices and multilevel logic synthesis. Chapter 9 covers more advanced topics in programmed logic devices, including techniques for input decoding and Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). Chapter 10 includes a discussion of boolean division, kernels and factoring, boolean tree structures, rectangle covering, binary decision diagrams, and if-then-else operators. Computer algorithms covered in these two chapters include weak division, iterative weak division, and kernel extraction by tabular methods and by rectangle covering theory. Modern Digital Design and Switching Theory is an excellent textbook for electrical and computer engineering students, in addition to a worthwhile reference for professionals working with integrated circuits.
